When I use the code above, it aligns the text but creates other issues with the rotating banner. Please see the picture below.
Note the space below the header and the bottom of the rotating banner. I altered the values you gave.
Instead of 30px, I used 0 and instead of -56px, I used -26px, but it still cuts off the navigation (the circles) of the rotating banner.
Any idea how to resolve this issue?
Thanks Dude – that worked.
I had a follow up question – How do I increase the spacing between the bottom of the heading and the submenu? I want the navigation menu to line up with the bottom of the logo.
I also tried dropping all the font files into the css folder as suggested in this thread, but it doesn’t seem to change anything.
Here’s a link to an image that shows where I’ve saved the font files – http://www.acornfactory.org/ftp-font/
I have the font saved in http://www.acornfactory.org/www/wp-content/themes/abundance/fonts/PTS75F-webfont.ttf
How should I change the code to direct to it?
Also, how do I increase the spacing between the bottom of the heading and the submenu? I want the navigation menu to line up with the bottom of the logo.
That worked in eliminating the left column, but I have one last issue – the post titles haven’t moved.
I may not be making myself clear. I want to preserve the right column that has my widgets (description, recent posts, categories, archives). What I want to get rid of is the left area which is largely dead space and only includes the permalink for each post.
Here’s the link to the blog page for reference. http://www.acornfactory.org/blog-2/
Thanks for the help. That did the trick. I don’t know how I missed that option on the layouts.

Thanks for the help Peter – that did it.
How do you reduce the padding around the rulers?
The code that you posted worked perfectly.
Devin, I’m currently in the process of transferring over the domain, so I don’t have a site up yet, but I’ve been playing with WP on my own computer.
The !important actually makes it work, but I was wondering if there is any way to change the background of the widget to be transparent. I changed the footer background to be a unique wood grain and would like it to show through.
The person in this post asked the same thing, but he seems to have resolved it himself so it seems it can be done. Unfortunately, the solution was never posted in the thread.
Thanks again guys!
I’m trying to do the same thing, but I tried making this change on the abundance theme and for some reason the social icons didn’t move to the right. The icons are just floating in the middle of the header as if the search bar was still there. Any idea why?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the quick response.
I dropped the code into the custom.css, but it doesn’t seem to change anything. The widget background is still a solid green so it doesn’t seem to be taking any of the arguments.
Alternatively, is there a way to just change the background of the widget? I’m currently using the text widget just to test things.
