Well, now I feel like a right idiot. Turns out the file I was editing was on the original staging server, not the live site – I was accessing the incorrect location. *blush* No wonder nothing I was doing was having any effect! So sorry to have wasted your time on this – and thanks so much for your help :-)
Thanks, yes that’s similar to what I tried to do, but for some reason I can’t fathom, nothing shows on the site at all…
Here’s how I have it:
<div class=’container’ id=’menu_container’>
And my styling is like this (still to be tweaked, once I can actually see the thing):
I’m not an expert, so I could be doing this completely incorrectly, but usually when you insert something in the header, it shows up, even if it’s just to break something! And whatever I do here seems to be completely disregarded, as if there’s something else in there overriding it.
Really appreciate your help!
Yep, right you are – and that’s why I usually do this in the custom stylesheet rather. Just thought it was worth bringing to your attention as I’ve not had it happen before in any of Kriesi’s themes (though it could also potentially be a WP update bug, I suppose?)
Anyway, thanks for the response!April 19, 2011 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Having trouble setting up static home page (errors) #44088
Thanks for the mail… haven’t heard anything further – did you have any luck?
Thanks for your help.
Yes, I manually created those links with ?portfolio=lions-head myself before I’d fiddled with the permalink structure. It was the other links that weren’t working when WP was updated to 3.1. Anyway, it seems to have resolved itself so can only assume that despite clearing cache I was still seeing an old version without the latest updates – and now the /portfolio/lions-head/ link (et al) is working fine. Thanks for your patience and help!
Yes, I saw that post about the extra two files, and had updated those as well. I’ve just tried re-setting the permalinks but that doesn’t seem to work either. It’s still not generating the correct link to the individual portfolio items… I also checked that there are no doubles of category names – there is no ‘portfolio’ category under normal posts that might clash with the Habitat portfolio setup.
For whatever reason, it’s now generating links like this: /portfolio/lions-head/
Instead of this: /?portfolio=lions-head
I’m still having issues despite having updated the files as outlined in the version.rtf file. On http://www.mothercityhikers.co.za – you’ll see that if you go via the main nav FIND A HIKE, and then try to click on portfolio items, it generates a 404 error.
Instead of the links being this:http://mothercityhikers.co.za/?portfolio=lions-head
They are like this: http://mothercityhikers.co.za/portfolio/lions-head/
Any idea what I can do to fix this? Was working before the update to 3.1.
