Thank for your response. I understand. Is there a way for me to add [solved] status to this message?

Thank you, I will do so.
However, are you aware that the high number of thumbs is actually really “caused” by Enfold itself? I tested this on other sites where Enfold is the theme in use.
If people plan to use high volume galleries, like we did, your theme causes the upload directory to bloat excessively. I run a 10GB VPS and the site gobbled up half my space. Now it will be fixed (I hope) with this plugin, but less experienced users may run into big trouble over this as not all shared hosts allow endless disk usage. Just my 2 cents. I’m quite curious what the core devs of the theme have to say about this? Isn’t there a way to prevent this from happening?
I have the same issue using Enfold, and the only external plugin I use is Codestyling Localisation, which has nothing to do with the Media Library. I have a folder that now contains <sit tight>over 69.500</sit tight> files… It’s a whopping 2.34GB. I have another folder that is over 650 MB.
I’m at my wits’ end, could you help me with this?
Kind regards from an Enfold die hard fan,
Every image uploaded turns into 13 to 16 versions.
I understand the creation of thumbnails and such, but this is “haywire” duplication.
More info added:
I noticed that I was using an older version of Enfold *shame on me!* So I updated, hoping the issue would be gone. Also WordPress was updated to 3.9.2. As a test I uploaded a fresh image to the media library. It was not even used in the site, just uploaded, and it immediately crunched into 19 different sizes, some of them really weird sizes.
Then I removed the Codestyling Localisation Plugin, the only plugin aside from Akismet (which I never activated), hoping that this would be the culprit. I mean, Enfold is such a brilliant theme, I have never encountered any issues before with other customers, so I could not imagine the problem lies in the theme. But now I am not so sure about it.
After removal of the Codestyling Localisation plugin I repeated my test. Uploaded an image. And again the Media Library crunched it into 19 files sizes.

OMG, I feel SO stupid now. I did not check if I were in the correct forum section :-)
Thank you Yigit!
Sorry guys, I am totally confused. Ismael advised: “Did you try to add the image using the Featured media > Add Image to slideshow button?”
I do not see Featured media. I see featured image. If I insert an image there, I do not get an option to add it to any slide show. So I have no clue which button is meant.
If I add a slideshow to the post itself, I do not see a tickbox or any other method of making the image featured. Adding a slideshow as you suggest here, does not show the image on the page where I have the blog grid with all the articles in overview.
I am very new to WordPress, I hope you forgive me for any “blonde” questions.
Would anyone be so kind to tell me step by step how to do this? I am on WP 3.6 and the latest version of Enfold (August 21, 2013).
Kind regards from The Netherlands,
