    Hi Ismael

    Sorry, when I mentioned “styles menu” I meant the “custom styles settings panel”

    Best regards

    Steve

    Hi Ismael
    I noticed that H1 text box accepted and reproduced the html and inline css in the preview window firstly with a <br /> here and there and then with any inline css.
    It will show all that one puts in the H1 text box to be working in preview which leads one to think its going to work. Only when it goes live, the text vanishes.

    I’m now aware of this and use the custom style settings panel – I haven’t tried it, but I imagine all of the text panels will probably do the same ie. look good in preview but no text when published.

    It’s a user error on my part but an easy one to make. Maybe the guys at layerslider should lock this down and make the preview not show the text to work when a user inputs html or inline css in the text panels.

    Cheers

    Hi Devin
    I think that the php error was corrected by the isp – he had to install some php extensions which the layerslider needed.
    I was not seeing the text in the h1 field even though it appeared in the preview. I went on to the layerslider forums and discovered that a lot of people are having the same issue.

    However I managed to resolve it myself – This may be useful to someone.
    I was wrapping the h1 text in a style tag and styling it within that h1 text box.
    The h1 text box doesn’t seem to like inline styles and once I removed them and placed my styles in the styles menu – all worked as it should.
    It was an error by myself but to compound matters the inline styles (in the h1 text box) all work in the preview.
    This allows one to think it’s okay – perhaps this should be noted in a layerslider update as I can see by the layerslider forums, that there are a lot of people pulling their hair out with the same problem. (I typed in “no text on slide” and 84 pages came up with several different comments per page).

    Thanks and
    Best wishes

    Hi Guys

    I’ve managed to resolve The custom css problem but not the layerslider.
    The custom css was somehow reading from a a previous installation of enfold (which I had on the same server and named “enfold2″) and the site seemed to be sucking the css from both of the custom css files – one with my css in and one with the test css in. I deleted the enfold 2 folder and everything is back to normal!!!

    Its odd though cos I have at times had 3 copies of Choices running on the same server (calling the folders Choices 1, choices 2 etc ) and this has never happened but I was on multi site rather than a single site .

    Anyway it’s fixed

    Now on to the Layerslider problem……

    Best regards

    Hi Guys

    This is my revised custom.css http://www.aclgroup.co.uk/custom_css.jpg

    This is the site (I’ve cleared the cache and relaunched Firefox and safari several times Its still reading my previous css???)

    http://www.aclgroup.co.uk/web_dev.jpg

    Something is inherently wrong here and I’m concerned nobody has a solution Please Help!

    Regards

    Hi Ismael

    Whats really weird here is if I delete all my custom css code above and just use (as a test):-

    #header_main .container{
    display:none;
    }
    It doesn’t work in custom.css and works in quick css but the colorblocks (controlled by the deleted css) are all still there?? and checking them in web developer still shows their styles intact (despite deleting them re-saving custom. css and clearing the cache and refreshing Firefox. I’ve just looked at it in safari – the same is happening it’s hanging on to my deleted styles and not recognising the test.

    It’s almost like its reading the css from somewhere else???

    I just don’t know what to try next Please help!

    in reply to: Custom CSS codes not working after updates #256599

    Hi Yigit
    I am having the same problem – only my quick css is working – I can cut and paste the same code to custom.css and it stops.
    This time (as far as I’m aware) there are no syntax errors – I’ve only written a few lines :-
    #colorblocko {
    display:block;
    background-color:#F48C37;
    width:249px;
    height:249px;
    margin:20px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    color:#ffffff!important;
    text-align:left !important;
    }

    #colorblockb {
    display:block;
    background-color:#00baf2;
    width:249px;
    height:249px;
    margin:20px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    color:#ffffff!important;
    text-align:left !important;

    }

    #colorblockg {
    display:block;
    background-color:#d4e15a;
    width:249px;
    height:249px;
    margin:20px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    color:#ffffff!important;
    text-align:left !important;

    }

    #colorblockm {
    display:block;
    background-color:#E885B6;
    width:249px;
    height:249px;
    margin:20px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    color:#ffffff!important;
    text-align:left !important;

    }

    These work but for a test:-

    #header_main .container{
    display:none;
    }
    Only works in quick css???

    Please help!

    Best regards

    PS I’ve reported this in my post “Layer slider Not showing text and custom css not responding”

    Hi Ismael

    Thanks for getting back!

    I’m not using the minify plugin but I am temporarily using “Ultimate coming soon page” plugin whilst it’s being built, but no other plugins are installed (apart from WordPress Importer).

    I have deactivated the plugin so you should be able to see it now.

    I’m not running the layerslider as a standalone plugin but will do if that’s what it takes to fix. I believe the text missing text problem (in layerslider) happened with a previous version of enfold (last year) so I ended up using graphic based text, but this time the Client will be wanting to change the text so I have to find a solution.

    Hi Yigit

    I’ve checked a hundred times (well almost!) and can’t see any thing wrong, whats more if the punctuation was wrong, then when I cut and paste it into quick css then it wouldn’t work there either but it does so it must be good – is that right?
    Please help!

    in reply to: Quick Css overriding Custom Css #251323

    Hi Ismael
    I was adding them to the bottom of custom.css but they were not working. I was using the same css as two previous sites that I used Choices on, so I don’t really understand what’s changed (except I haven’t updated those 2 and I’m using a different calendar plugin). Before I started the MQ’s I had a problem with the sidebar not showing and I’m wondering whether its all related. Yigit advised me to try one MQ in quick css and it did the job. I’m now having to do all the media queries in the quick css box rather than the custom.css which is no tideal and not good for updates.

    As I understand it, custom.css should be overriding the quick css so something seems to be causing this to reverse? probably me!

    Any help would be much appreciated!

    Kind regards

    Hi Yigit
    It didn’t seem to work – it’s as if all responsive views are being over-ridden by the default desktop sizes?
    Also other styles aren’t responding such as the orange menu bar not removing itself with:-
    .menubar img {
    display:none;
    }

    or the logo not resizing.
    It appears as though no media queries are being read or the css is no longer linking.
    In chrome web dev it can’t see reference to the media queries, only the normal css.

    for instance .menubar img {} is referenced on line 647 but not in the media queries lines 1080 and 1140.
    I don’t seem to be able to target anything?

    Can you help?
    Cheers

    in reply to: Add Google Translate shortcode to top info_text_header #218944

    Hi Ismael

    I’d like to do the same to http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/ Recently the google translate has disappeared from the header on the schools website running windows 7 ie 9 – when I view it on my computers (windows 7 home premium ie 9, chrome and osx 10.6/7/8 FF SAFARI, CHROME it works???).

    The insist they haven’t touched anything apart from updating pages, only I had to let them have admin to update the banner (maybe this should be accessible as an editor in future choices updates cos its a handy thing for school secretaries to use for stop press type info like “the school is closed” etc.

    The only thing that differs is they are using Pro or enterprise edition whilst I’m using home premium. There hasn’t been a problem until now and no updates have been applied (although I did update the google plugin today to see if it made a difference – no joy).

    It’s very hard to fix when I can’t see the problem my end – here’s a screengrab of what they see http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/newimage.png

    As a possible solution to this I’d like to do what you have advised 40eleven to do only in choices/functions.php, I don’t see the $output .=………………code you have provided above. I currently have it placed in header.php. but it seems to be pushed off screen or not there at all. (only on the schools computers). Everywhere else (that I have checked) it functions as expected.

    Can you help with regards to where I should place the code in functions.php and the accompanying css to target (if it differs from above)

    in reply to: Choices Errors since updating #212741

    Hi Ismael

    When I add the code – the site just goes blank – a white page?

    If I take it out it comes back (with the errors above)
    I spotted this line at the end of wp-config.php:-

    error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1);

    I changed the ‘1’ to ‘0’ and it seems to have fixed things?

    I don’t really know whats going on here, does this mean that the errors are still there but now they are not visible?

    Hi
    I don’t know if this helps
    I’ve found that the problem goes away if I check Settings/Reading/Front page displays/Your latest posts
    (instead of A static page)

    But this is not really suitable as the blog is required and the front page is static

    in reply to: IE woes #125127

    Hi Devin

    Yes I can see that the theme works in ie 9 if I get rid of custom.css but unfortunately I can’t do that.

    I’m trying all sorts of scripts like this in header.php

    <!–[if IE]>

    <link type=”text/css” rel=”stylesheet” media=”screen” href=”http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/www/lark/wp-content/themes/choices/css/ieonly.css” />

    <![endif]–>

    but it still seems to take the styles from custom? and not linking to “ieonly.css”

    I’ve put it back how it was so the drop down menu no longer functions in windows seven ie 9 – they disappear once the mouse is off the main menu. I think it’s caused by a gap between the main menu and the drop down. I can get rid of it by changing line 135 (in custom.css) to top: 12px;

    But this is not ideal as it makes the drop downs almost touch the text on the main menu.

    Could you tell me what I need to do to get that if IE script working?

    Best regards

    Steve

    in reply to: IE woes #125125

    Hi Devin

    You’ll probably be looking at the version I managed to (half) resolve this weekend using a plethora of hacks and fixes gleaned from googling.

    The result is that the drop down sub menu now sits too close to the menu. If I move it down by just 1 pixel it creates a gap that IE9 picks up and so the sub menu vanishes. (only in IE9).

    Ideally it should be flush with the bottom of main menu bar (or flush with the top of the breadcrumbs background) instead of overlaying it.

    So I currently have a situation where, in order for it to function in windows 7 IE9 – I have to mess up the look and design for all the other modern browsers! It’s not ideal.

    Should I be looking at having a seperate style sheet for ie9?

    Best regards

    Hi Nick

    Wow thankyou kindly for the lesson (it’s the longest I’ve seen on the forum so I feel honoured and ashamed at the same time, for having taken up so much of your time. I ought to tell you that my first ever wordpress sites are the ones I’m building now, with your themes. (although I did learn to write early html and css when then web began).

    I’m using 2 x choices for 2 schools (for free) and propulsion for a small business. I have to do them in my spare time mainly as I work on packaging design in normal hours.

    My knowledge in this is limited as my main role in life is as a 3d product visualiser. However I am a quick learner. and will read your advice thoroughly (at first glance it has me stumped it’s a lot to take in for a newbie but then I have spent all day trying to get the menu to work in IE9 and guess what? I’ve done it! the only thing is I had to offset the menu so it no longer aligns with the breadcrumbs – I move it down by even 1px IE 9 senses a gap and doesn’t pick up the sub menu.

    When these three sites are over I have already had some interest to build another 3 more (not for free) I’m hoping by that time I’ll be fully up to date with media queries and wordpress dev.

    If it keeps going like this I might even make a career change!

    A big thankyou Sir
