    Hi Yigit

    I’ve checked a hundred times (well almost!) and can’t see any thing wrong, whats more if the punctuation was wrong, then when I cut and paste it into quick css then it wouldn’t work there either but it does so it must be good – is that right?
    Please help!

    Best regards

    in reply to: Quick Css overriding Custom Css #251323

    Hi Ismael
    I was adding them to the bottom of custom.css but they were not working. I was using the same css as two previous sites that I used Choices on, so I don’t really understand what’s changed (except I haven’t updated those 2 and I’m using a different calendar plugin). Before I started the MQ’s I had a problem with the sidebar not showing and I’m wondering whether its all related. Yigit advised me to try one MQ in quick css and it did the job. I’m now having to do all the media queries in the quick css box rather than the custom.css which is no tideal and not good for updates.

    As I understand it, custom.css should be overriding the quick css so something seems to be causing this to reverse? probably me!

    Any help would be much appreciated!

    Kind regards

    Hi Yigit
    It didn’t seem to work – it’s as if all responsive views are being over-ridden by the default desktop sizes?
    Also other styles aren’t responding such as the orange menu bar not removing itself with:-
    .menubar img {
    display:none;
    }

    or the logo not resizing.
    It appears as though no media queries are being read or the css is no longer linking.
    In chrome web dev it can’t see reference to the media queries, only the normal css.

    for instance .menubar img {} is referenced on line 647 but not in the media queries lines 1080 and 1140.
    I don’t seem to be able to target anything?

    Can you help?
    Cheers

    in reply to: Add Google Translate shortcode to top info_text_header #218944

    Hi Ismael

    I’d like to do the same to http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/ Recently the google translate has disappeared from the header on the schools website running windows 7 ie 9 – when I view it on my computers (windows 7 home premium ie 9, chrome and osx 10.6/7/8 FF SAFARI, CHROME it works???).

    The insist they haven’t touched anything apart from updating pages, only I had to let them have admin to update the banner (maybe this should be accessible as an editor in future choices updates cos its a handy thing for school secretaries to use for stop press type info like “the school is closed” etc.

    The only thing that differs is they are using Pro or enterprise edition whilst I’m using home premium. There hasn’t been a problem until now and no updates have been applied (although I did update the google plugin today to see if it made a difference – no joy).

    It’s very hard to fix when I can’t see the problem my end – here’s a screengrab of what they see http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/newimage.png

    As a possible solution to this I’d like to do what you have advised 40eleven to do only in choices/functions.php, I don’t see the $output .=………………code you have provided above. I currently have it placed in header.php. but it seems to be pushed off screen or not there at all. (only on the schools computers). Everywhere else (that I have checked) it functions as expected.

    Can you help with regards to where I should place the code in functions.php and the accompanying css to target (if it differs from above)

    Regards

    in reply to: Choices Errors since updating #212741

    Hi Ismael

    When I add the code – the site just goes blank – a white page?

    If I take it out it comes back (with the errors above)
    I spotted this line at the end of wp-config.php:-

    error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1);

    I changed the ’1′ to ’0′ and it seems to have fixed things?

    I don’t really know whats going on here, does this mean that the errors are still there but now they are not visible?

    Best regards

    Hi
    I don’t know if this helps
    I’ve found that the problem goes away if I check Settings/Reading/Front page displays/Your latest posts
    (instead of A static page)

    But this is not really suitable as the blog is required and the front page is static

    in reply to: IE woes #125127

    Hi Devin

    Yes I can see that the theme works in ie 9 if I get rid of custom.css but unfortunately I can’t do that.

    I’m trying all sorts of scripts like this in header.php

    <!–[if IE]>

    <link type=”text/css” rel=”stylesheet” media=”screen” href=”http://www.larkswoodprimary.co.uk/www/lark/wp-content/themes/choices/css/ieonly.css” />

    <![endif]–>

    but it still seems to take the styles from custom? and not linking to “ieonly.css”

    I’ve put it back how it was so the drop down menu no longer functions in windows seven ie 9 – they disappear once the mouse is off the main menu. I think it’s caused by a gap between the main menu and the drop down. I can get rid of it by changing line 135 (in custom.css) to top: 12px;

    But this is not ideal as it makes the drop downs almost touch the text on the main menu.

    Could you tell me what I need to do to get that if IE script working?

    Best regards

    in reply to: IE woes #125125

    Hi Devin

    You’ll probably be looking at the version I managed to (half) resolve this weekend using a plethora of hacks and fixes gleaned from googling.

    The result is that the drop down sub menu now sits too close to the menu. If I move it down by just 1 pixel it creates a gap that IE9 picks up and so the sub menu vanishes. (only in IE9).

    Ideally it should be flush with the bottom of main menu bar (or flush with the top of the breadcrumbs background) instead of overlaying it.

    So I currently have a situation where, in order for it to function in windows 7 IE9 – I have to mess up the look and design for all the other modern browsers! It’s not ideal.

    Should I be looking at having a seperate style sheet for ie9?

    Best regards

    Hi Nick

    Wow thankyou kindly for the lesson (it’s the longest I’ve seen on the forum so I feel honoured and ashamed at the same time, for having taken up so much of your time. I ought to tell you that my first ever wordpress sites are the ones I’m building now, with your themes. (although I did learn to write early html and css when then web began).

    I’m using 2 x choices for 2 schools (for free) and propulsion for a small business. I have to do them in my spare time mainly as I work on packaging design in normal hours.

    My knowledge in this is limited as my main role in life is as a 3d product visualiser. However I am a quick learner. and will read your advice thoroughly (at first glance it has me stumped it’s a lot to take in for a newbie but then I have spent all day trying to get the menu to work in IE9 and guess what? I’ve done it! the only thing is I had to offset the menu so it no longer aligns with the breadcrumbs – I move it down by even 1px IE 9 senses a gap and doesn’t pick up the sub menu.

    When these three sites are over I have already had some interest to build another 3 more (not for free) I’m hoping by that time I’ll be fully up to date with media queries and wordpress dev.

    If it keeps going like this I might even make a career change!

    A big thankyou Sir

    in reply to: Windows 7!!! #126036

    Hi

    Sorry when I look at other pages that don’t have the slide on, – the menu is still not there, so rather than behind the slide it’s simply not there?

    That probably explains why none of the above solutions are working! Unless it is behind something else but I can’t see what?

    Can you help?

    Hi Ismael

    Thanks for that

    could you point me in the right direction to target the content within the avia table ie the links?

    As the column gets a little too thin for the links and graphics on some responsive sizes.

    Hi Nick

    Thank you for a swift response

    Please find screenshots on

    http://aclgroup.co.uk/TL_1024x768.jpg

    This one is the okay one (same as it shows on the home page)- ideally the quicklink box with it’s content is all that should be showing.

    So If I could target the background of the avia table and make it transparent – I’m assuming this problem would go away.

    Also the media query above (although it’s probably something I’ve added to it!) seems to interfere with the tablet portrait 768 x 1024 (when I take it out the problems go?

    I have another major problem with the main menu dropdown going behind the slideshow? (posted in IE woes) the fixes have not worked

    Could you help with this too?

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

    in reply to: IE woes #125123

    Hi Ismael

    Thanks for this but it’s still not showing – I’ve also tried

    #top #slideshow_big

    {

    border-bottom-width: 0px;

    z-index: -1;

    }

    #main {

    z-index: -1;

    }

    which I gleaned from the forum but still no joy – is there anything else I can try? unfortunately most of the school are still on windows seven, so it’s kind of more important (for them) than any other OS – It’s great on a Mac though!! and it seems fine in chrome on PC (even xp!).

    Hi Ismael and Nick

    May I just say your support is top notch – I have three more sites in the pipeline (after these 3 I’m working on) and I’ll definitely be using your themes for all

    Thanks for this I think you are probably right about the colour Nick I’ll try it and see what the teachers have to say.

    There’s just one thing regarding the responsiveness, the content area has gone out of the viewing area,

    Also There is a big white border down the side of the quick links box (the avia table)

    Could you help me with targeting these two?

    Many thanks

    Hi Ismael

    Thanks for this it didn’t seem to work but I have convinced the teachers that there is no point in supporting these two browsers.

    However one has pointed out to me that the menu is not working in IE9 on windows 7 see screenshot

    http://www.aclgroup.co.uk/windows7_ie9.jpg

    ringed in red – the menu is not dropping down or is perhaps behind the slide?

    It seems to work on everything but this

    Can you help?

    Thanks

    in reply to: responsive problem #124394

    Hi Nick

    Thanks Nick

    that did it for the menu. but on the 600 x 800 portrait it’s going way under – like it’s squeezed the site up too much (not just the menu but the whole content – wrap all is around 100px short on the left and right of the window. Whilst the other sizes all seem to fit to the windows.

    The background on either side is not supposed to be there (or at least off screen)

    How do I get the grey areas circled in http://aclgroup.co.uk/responsive_600x800_portrate.jpg to go away? so that the site stretches to the sides of the window?
