  • Sorry, posted wrong code above. My solution was as follows:

    1. created a custom field called link_to

    2. changed line 43 in index.php from the_permalink() to echo get_post_meta($post->ID, ‘link_to’, true)

    Worked great, thanks.

In my case, I created a custom field called link_to and then changed line 43 in index.php from the_permalink() to the_permalink($post->ID, ‘link_to’, true)

    Thanks. I’ll try that.

FYI – The site is now live and the link in my first post above has changed to http://integrativemgi.com/

Hey, I had to inactivate the Tag Cloud widget for our blog in order to go live, so the link above no longer shows the problem. If you need me to recreate the issue, before you can troubleshoot let me know and I will set up a testing environment.

    Thanks, that did it.

Dude – I meant to thank you for the JShortcodes tip. It’s a fine plugin for buttons, boxes, and other stuff. And yes, having the shortcodes in an external plugin makes great sense.

in reply to: How to change the menu item widths? #31998

FYI, here’s how I widened the drop down menu items:

-add a width to the following style, #top .catnav li .sub-menu a

You’ll find it in whatever extra style sheet you’ve chosen: style1.css to style4.css, at about line 94.

I widened mine to 225px to avoid text wrap on this site: http://66.147.244.248/~integry3/

    Perfect. Thanks.

    Yet another update:

Item #3 was resolved by commenting out line 137 of index.php in the /newscast/ directory.

Re: Item #2 – How can I get rid of the post pagination numbers that appear?

Want only the one post Welcome to Integrative Medical Group of Irvine to show and not the pagination numbers that appear below it.

    Another update:

Partial success: Using the Excerpt field in the post did what the <!–more–> tag did not. Item 1 above is resolved.

Items 2 and 3 are still open.

Hi Newscast theme guys. Here I’m updating the status of my last entry:

Yes, I’m talking about the main post on the home page. Again, it’s the one entitled Welcome to Integrative Medical Group of Irvine which you can see at this link http://66.147.244.248/~integry3/ .

I implemented the changes to index.php in newscast directory and placed a Read More tag <!–more–>, as suggested. The tag was placed after a second paragraph but still only the first paragraph shows. Any ideas? Do you need access to Admin?

If you look at the home page link above, you’ll notice that there is only one post in the bottom center of the page (Welcome to Integrative Medical Group of Irvine). This is because I’ve created a category called homepage and purposely put just one post in it. I’ve also excluded all the other categories in the OptionTree settings (would be great to have an option to just include 1 cat instead of excluding all but 1).

These are the display problems I see on the home page related to this:

    1. The MORE tag at end of second paragraph of post is being ignored, and instead only the first paragraph is showing. (earlier suggested fix had no effect)

    2. There’s a navigation block showing 3 pages of posts, when there is only the 1 post. Also clicking on a page displays Nothing Found

    3. A HOMEPAGE button appears even though the user is already on the home page. (this one’s not a show stopper, just a rough edge)

BTW, this is a really fine theme and support is good so far.

    1. Can the featured post on the Home page (center page, not in the right column) be modified to show the entire post?

    2. Is there a way to determine where the “read more” code is inserted in this post?

The post is entitled Welcome to Integrative Medical Group of Irvine and is on this page: http://66.147.244.248/~integry3/

in reply to: social bookmarks #33161

How can we add links/icons for social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn to the ones on the left of the Search box in the header?

in reply to: How to toggle? #37782

Newscast is a fine theme. The fact that you have a searchable forum and active support is another big plus. The one thing that seemed to be lacking are shortcodes. However, hardcoding shortcodes into themes probably isn’t the best approach anyway. By adding JShortcodes plugin to Newscast, the shortcode issue was solved for me.

in reply to: How to child theme skin files #41762

Not at all. So many people here are helping each other, it just seems like the thing to do.

I consider my suggestion above a hack, since I haven’t seen it described in Codex. It’s working well for me with the Newscast theme.

However, in an ideal world, I think the Child style.css file should be able to handle everything using @import url(style1.css); placed after the @import url(style.css). For example, it seems logical in a cascading world where the Child style.css should control everything that it would: 1. import and execute style.css, then 2. any mods to style.css, and then 3. import and execute style1.css, and then 4. any mods placed after that. However, the original header.php is executing style1.css (again?*) AFTER it processes the Child. *once during @import in the child and again because of the header <link> stmt.

Maybe the WordPress developers have something to say about this?

in reply to: How to child theme skin files #41760

Exactly how to make mods to Child Theme Skin files hasn’t been exactly clear in codex and elsewhere. Hopefully this will help:

    1. Copy header.php to the Child folder

    2. Create a css file to hold your skin mods. e.g. For style1.css call it something like style1M.css

    3. Insert the style1M.css <link> statement in the header, immediately after the style1.css <link> statement (around line 36)

    That should do it.
