  • Right when I read your post the error occurred to me. Isn’t that always the case.

I migrated the old client’s site from http://www.sitename.com/bcca to http://www.sitename.com so I put an htaccess rule in place to send any inbound old http://www.sitename.com/bcca links and variants back to http://www.sitename.com instead of generating 404’s.

That rule caused a nervous breakdown of the site with any new post, page or category that began with bcca. Because of the htaccess rule the site resolved it by removing the bcca in the permalink.

Solution: I have to have the .htaccess rule to capture old inbound links that are still out there on the web. So…just don’t begin any post, page, tag or category with bcca and it all is well. My cleverness in .htaccess outclevered me on the site.

Thanks for your quick reply…it jolted my brain to resolve the issue which was my fault. Enfold works great. You can close the thread and mark it resolved.

    Thanks for the reply Elliot,
I tried the fix in the post but no success. It isn’t quite the same problem but is was worth a try.

It’s only when hide mobile menu submenu is activated. On a smartphone and tablet I can only click through to a page that is the last child in the menu tree. A parent only expands/collapses on click. If I disable it every parent and child works but then I have the mobile menu that’s many screens long.

    Thank you, That worked.

in reply to: Enfold and the SEO WordPress Version 1.5.5.3 #308068

    I think I found it.

Every page that I had a BLOG POSTS module inserted the Wordrpess SEO by Yoast meta fields did not show the correct info as I had originally entered. The info was pulled from the same POST in all the pages that had the blog posts module inserted. Note that it was not the most recent or old post nor the first in a category but it was always the meta info from a POST that was transferred to the meta data of the PAGE. Other problems I encountered was not being able to save new meta data in the Yoast module.

Of interest is when DASHBOARD>PAGES is clicked. The SEO title displayed is correct however editing a page with the blog posts module shows incorrect info in the YOAST module.

If I reverted back to WordPress SEO by Yoast ver 1.5.5.1 then everything works and is correct.

Oddly enough the hover tag on a menu item shows correctly and using 3rd party site like SEOSITECHECKUP shows title, description and keywords as correct.

So it seems to me that it is a display problem conflict with WordPress SEO by Yoast 1.5.5.3 on pages that have the blog posts module AND is limited to what you see in the ADMIN area.

I hope this helps. I have to stay at 1.5.5.1 until this very specific problem is resolved…somehow.

Background info and how I arrived at this

Enfold 2.9.1 on same host but two different client website accounts. WordPress SEO by Yoast 1.5.5.3 works on one but not the other. This tells me that it is not a server/host conflict.

Wordpress SEO by Yoast 1.5.5.3 does not have issues with other themes.

Between 3 sites (2 use Enfold 2.9.1) and another theme plugins are similar. I have compared plugins and found only 1 (Hide YouTube Related Videos) that was in the site that wasn’t playing well with WordPress SEO by Yoast 1.5.5.3. Sorry. Deactivating and removing it had no positive effect.

All three sites use W3Total Cache so I tried deactivated and removing that on the site that doesn’t work with WordPress SEO. No. That didn’t fix things.

    Dude,

You are correct that the stock Enfold theme handles the empty search string properly but, it appears, that the iThemes Security plugin adds code to the .htaccess file that causes the problem as I indicated. I know you can’t anticipate problems of what every plugin may cause. I was just wondering if what I posted may identify or lead to a possible solution on your end.

It’s not a huge problem. I found the fix as I posted and am also trying to see if the plugin developers have anything to say on their end.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

Update: I tried setting the RewriteCond back to original and implementing your suggestion and it did not work. It appears that the fix is with the code added by iThemes Security (formerly Better WP Security). I thought what I posted may tip you off to a possible solution on Enfold side. No worries.

I must have tried adding this to Quick CSS 20 times and now it works for some reason. I must have been typing incorrectly.

    @media only screen and (max-width: 1140px) and (min-width: 768px) {
    #top .main_menu ul:first-child > li > a { font-size: 12px; }
    }

For anyone else that reads this remember to set the Header Mobile Menu Activation to only for smartphone in ENFOLD>HEADER LAYOUT>MOBILE MENU tab. If you set it to smartphone and tablet the changes will only affect the tablet in landscape mode (greater than 990px)

    lol

Well. I’m sure none, including yourself, endorse or make a practice of utilizing copyrighted material.

If I were to have self-hosted video then, if I remember correctly, add it as a portfolio item. Use the preview image (For AJAX style) or feature image (for non AJAX) as the thumbnail. On a page you would add the portfolio element and select the category the video was assigned to.

I looked into doing prior to using YouTube and the way I did it for one of my sites so my notes may be a bit sketchy but I think it may help get you into the ballpark.

    • A portfolio FEATURE image is 495 x 400 pixels (scales down to 276 x 352)
    • Portfolio can have a video with and without gallery.
    • No gallery images required if only a video
    • Preview text only appears in AJAX (Slide up) configuration
    • Excerpt text appears below portfolio module – required
    • Add 2/3-1/3 layout element
o Video link in 2/3 container
o Text block in 1/3 container
    • Add 1/1 layout element below (if wanting text content below)
    • if you wish Add special heading (for article title)
    • Add text block
    • Add 1/1 layout
    • Add comments

Hope this gets you going the right way.

EDIT: Yup…poster parameter probably is the better way to go. There are many smarter people than I.

What may be a possible and, perhaps, favorable solution would be to put your videos on YouTube. Set a custom thumbnail there and then install the Hide YouTube Related Videos plugin which blocks the mosaic tilework of related videos from appearing a the end of the video. Embed the YouTube link into your site via the video element.

You would save bandwidth on your hosted site. (and potentially $ if you go exceed limit) You could make the videos on YoutTube unlisted then just copy the URL to your site. Private won’t work as you have to have to be logged in to see the video. No one on YouTube could see the videos in your channel unless they knew the direct URL.

    An idea to consider.

Just fresh onto the wobbly web.

    http://www.letstalkback.ca

2 TV commercials, 18 YouTube videos, 1 YouTube channel and 1 website using Enfold. Thanks for fantastic support, great theme, nicely coded, versatile and expandable. And it only took 245 hours from “what do you want to do?” until “it’s done.” That includes all the content, SEO, under the hood configuration, video shoots, editing. The Enfold theme made it all possible. Thank you.

in reply to: MAC Safari and CSS minify – falls apart #256839

It appears that it may have been a compiling issue with W3 Total Cache.

I first added the CSS files all at once to the CSS Minify section and when W3 Total Cache minified there was probably corruption issues. When I was troubleshooting removing the CSS files, one at a time emptying and rebuilding the cache each time, the problem remained because the possible corruption was being recompiled.

When I disabled CSS minify entirely, emptied and rebuilt the cache, re-enabled, then added the CSS files one at a time, emptying and rebuilding the cache between each addition the problem did not appear.

I can’t seem to make the issue repeat itself. It was probably just one of those things on one of those days. Odd that only Safari on a MAC showed it yet all other browsers in PC and MAC were fine.

So the advice to me is “don’t do things so quickly”. I’ll keep an eye on it but it seems resolved at this time.

Thank you for following up so quickly.
