Hey Kriesi!

Dude gave the advice, to take a closer look here. Because I'm not satisfied with "Flashlight" any more... [1]

My wishes would be:

- "fullsize" gallery (see below)
- thumbnails below or left or right (user choise) of the fullsize-image, which will get little smaller - no overlay please, because it's hiding my images
- sortable portfolio [2] - but - the images should not show any captions and should open directly into a lightbox.
- a child-theme
- larger buttons or user interface in fullscreen-mode

And Kriesi: If you want to get an opinion or need some beta-testing - drop me a mail...

Can you give us a spoiler? :-)

Thanks for the suggestions!
A theme like this is already planned, but will probably take until March/April to get finished :)

Hi there,

I love, bought and use a few of Kriesis themes. Great coding, great design, easy understanding, gorgeous support!

Flashlight is a really nice theme, that I'm using. But I'm missing a few cruicial things and would switch right away to a theme that

- has a fullscreen gallery (like flashlight)
- is responsive (!) and looks amazing on iPads and phones
- supports WPML
- supports WooCommerce

Of course, a "updated" flashlight with all these things would be fine, too. But I wouldn't bother to buy another theme.

I notice now that it really only works with the product page (page specified from the woocommerce settings), and other pages generated by woocommerce like, my account, shopping cart and checkout. With all other pages, posts and portfolio pages the sidebar hides under the content area.

So I see now that I need a code for those pages to push the sidebar to the right:-)

Hi, I've started adding products via the woocommerce product module, and on a typical product page the right sidebar will be moved back (left) where it was before I implemented the CSS fix that Devin gave in his first answer to this post.

I notice that the same happens with a regular post as well

Will I have to use a similar code only addressing the product page and posts in some way?

I did a search on the wordpress plugins section and found the Post Teaser plugin. Now I have a read more link that works fine but when you click on a post to see the full post there is no link to go back. So, to go to the blog post overview you have to navigate back through the browser. Is there a solution to add a back link or something like that?

Hi jessica,

To build upon what Dennis has said, make sure the background image is set using the backend options. Just to be sure, do you have the pattern set as your background image in the admin options or do you have the pattern image set as the Default Background Image Gallery? If you do, add that image to the images/patterns folder instead and it will be tiled and set as an overlay. Then you can properly set the default background image to a photo.

As for the cropping issue, you will continue to run into this and its not something you can really control. Everyone has different screen resolutions and will see your image cropped or stretched a little differently. If you really want a part of the photo seen by everyone (faces or upper body of a person) you'll need to recrop the image to have that near the center.

If you continue to have issues, you can create a temporary Admin account and send the details to DevinVinson(at)gmail.com. Make sure to put the link to this thread in the email or my junk mail filter will grab it :)

Regards,

Hey Jessica!

I've been on your site. I'm not a native english-speaker and so I've to tell you, what I've understood... Just to make shure, that I got it right!

Okay - your problem No. 1: For some reason, the gallery I've added to the home page won't show up.

Can I get a link? When I get it right, you maybe think about a (slider?) gallery on all sites? Have you seen this screencast - http://screenr.com/UoRs ? Use this screencast in your backend, which should look like this: http://1.s3.envato.com/files/7079728/images/2_backend.png Take a look at "Default Background Gallery".

Your next point: Also - my images look terrible ...

To be honest: you're right! The images, the clothes and the women are really great. It's a problem with your image-sizes.

First of all - there are two options for the background-slider:

a) full-screen, cropping: this option will "stretch" or "shrink" the images to fit the window of your browser in the width and will crop the top and bottom.

b) full-screen, non cropping: this option will "stretch" or "shrink" the images to fit the window of your browser to the high. The space left and right from the image will be left free.

Option a) is really nice, if you got "landscape"-oriented pictures only - in my opinion. You've to choose a picture, where the motive is in the middle of the picture. If you got fashion-images, most of them will be "portrait"-oriented, Option b) is your friend.

Into deep:
http://loislaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/bg_lines1.png - make it huge and full-width! Choose option a)
http://loislaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/bg_slide1_1500x1500.jpg - This is Option b) - see below please! :-)
http://loislaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/ll_ss_01a1.jpg - image to small. Your image is about 400 px, you need 430 px. :-)

If you want to use Option b), you've to think about your visitors screen-resolution. This are my visitors this month (Top10):

1920x1200	           27,09%
1280x800	           13,26%
1680x1050	           12,97%
1280x1024	           12,39%
1366x768  	     7,78%
1920x1080	             7,78%
1440x900	             7,49%
768x1024	             6,05%
2560x1440	             5,19%

Your background-image with the beautiful lady is 1500 px high - http://loislaine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/bg_slide1_1500x1500.jpg
You set this image to option a). That's wrong! If your customer has got a notebook with 1920x1200 px, your image will be blown up to the width and cropped on top and bottom. If you want a crisp image, you have to choose option b) and a hight about 1200 px (or lower because, the viewpoint of your browser is smaller). And you have to think about the borders.

My visitors are photo-enthusiast with higher screen-resolutions (as shown above). Most of them will run a fullscreen-browser-window on galleries. So my images are 1440 px high and I've chosen option b). Problem: my image will loose quality with a hight below 1000 px.

I've you want to see my homepage, copy this to your clipboard:

                uggc://jjj.xvryubea-cubgb.qr

and paste it here:

                http://www.rot13.de

Then you'll get the right URL.

I hope, that'll help you. If not - ask me... :-)

Greetings from Germany

Hello all,

After trying different things I still got the same problem. I have a page where the blog is showing. From every blog item there is some intro text ended up with the [...]

But I can´t get the Read more text. The insert more tag doesn´t work. The only way to go to the full post is clicking on the title. After that there is another problem. There is nog link to go back the overview of the post. The only way to go back is through the back arrow of the browser.

Who can help me out!

I'm also having an issue getting the image to sit right in the frame.

if i select "display image without cropping", it doesn't extend to the left hand sie of the browser.

If i select : "images should be scaled to fit" ... the top half of the picture is cropped off by the top of the browser...

see http://loislaine.com/about/ for an example of the former.

(I put the image up as a test to see if it would work - given that it isn't showing up on the home page.)

Hi j,

As Dennis mentioned, if you have a temporary site online I can take a look at that might help.

For the big background images, using something like 1500x1500 that can be cropped down/clipped for the different screen sizes should give you a pretty good result.

Regards,

Hi Dennis,

here's the url:
loislaine.com

it's a gallery that I've tried to add to the post. It shows up as added in the edit page but doesn't show up on the page.

As for the images... it's for the full size slider...so i guess this is the one i should use?:
$avia_config['imgSize']['fullsize'] = array('width'=>1500, 'height'=>1500, 'crop'=>false); // big images for fullsize slider

thanks so much!!! the developer my client asked me to work with has been zero help on this and the axe will fall on my head if the site doesn't look good.

cheers

Hi Jessica!

Are you talking about a portfolio? Or a gallery? Can you hand out an URL?

Image-Size: Depends on kind of gallery. See documentation:

$avia_config['imgSize']['widget'] = array('width'=>48, 'height'=>48 ); // small preview pics eg sidebar news, fullscreen slideshow thumbnails
$avia_config['imgSize']['related'] = array('width'=>130, 'height'=>130); // small images for related items
$avia_config['imgSize']['masonry'] = array('width'=>240, 'height'=>9999, 'crop'=>false); // masonry images
$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio'] = array('width'=>200, 'height'=>140); // medium preview pic portfolio
$avia_config['imgSize']['blog'] = array('width'=>430, 'height'=>9999, 'crop'=>false); // image for blog posts
$avia_config['imgSize']['fullsize'] = array('width'=>1500, 'height'=>1500, 'crop'=>false); // big images for fullsize slider

Hi!

I'm a designer and know little about code. For some reason, the gallery I've added to the home page won't show up.
Any thoughts on how to problem solve this?

Also - my images look terrible ... any recommendations on what pixel dimensions to create the images at in order to have them scale properly and still be crisp?

thanks!!!
j

ps i have to launch this wee site next week.
