Thanks Devin. It works. Great, great support!

To address the two buttons, I set:

.avia-button.caption-slideshow-button.slideshow_button_class,

Hi,

When you click New Post, at the very top right of the screen there is a button 'Screen Options' , inside there is a check box 'Discussion' . Please make sure that its checked and on the bottom of the same page you will now see the option to permit/forbid comments to that specific post.

Good luck!

I have/had a similar problem in that I can't/couldn't see a comments section.

I feel stupid -- I tried looking underneath the visual editor for a box called discussion but to no avail.
I did however notice in the "quick edit" section the box to check to allow/not allow comments. So, that is a fix. However, I still don't know how to initially allow/not allow comments when I create a new post.

Hey ezphilosophy,

Actually in this instance it isn't actually on top of anything, its just an effect. You can see the background image here: http://www.kriesi.at/wp-content/themes/kriesi_at/images/skin1/stuff_bg_less.jpg

There are lots of different ways in which you can make it appear as if a background image is spilling over on top of your content area and this is one of the most simple.

Another is to use z-index with a div that literally floats on top of your site and uses a semi transparent png file so that it is layered on your site.

Its definitely possible, but if you aren't already comfortable with editing html and css or don't want to spend a few days implementing then potentially bug fixing (specially for IE) you can always look into a Freelance web developer to help you get something like this up and running without too much cost.

Hope that helps :)

Regards,

I'd like to do something like this on my site, but I don't even know how to search for the idea. Would you call it a kind of overlay? How would you describe this effect where an image overlaps the main content? How is it implemented? (Choices theme)

Thanks for any guidance!

One of the boxes underneath the visual editor when creating a post is called Discussion. Make sure the option for "Allow comments" is checked.

Hi ezphilosophy,

You can Try adding the following CSS to your Quick CSS (located under the Styling Tab in the theme options) or the custom.css file in the css folder of your theme files:

.news-headline {
margin-top: 8px;
}

Play with the pixel amount for the top margin with that css. You may have issues if any of your titles are two lines.

I'm going to close this thread for now however as I don't want anyone to get confused since these are changes for Choices and Broadscope which this topic is under.

If you have any other issues, just make a new topic with your question (if the above doesn't work for you for instance) in the Choices theme area here: http://www.kriesi.at/support/forum/choices

I've noticed a similar thing with archive pages if the top post is set as 'full width': http://joystuck.co.uk/event/gamescom-2012/

There's supposed to be a right sidebar there, but because the top post has 'full width' setting the rest of the page uses that rather than the global default.

Hi All,

I'll inquire with Kriesi about an update. For now, the only idea I have that might help is to try completely deleting the template you are using and then re-building it. I know at one point there was an issue with the template builder and it not showing the right options after an update so it *might* be related if a fix has already been deployed and you've updated.

Otherwise, you may need to use a different layout as shutterlag indicated until Kriesi is able to get a fix out. I know it isn't ideal, but it will at least get the sidebar showing up for you.

I marked this thread for Kriesi. Personally I think it's an issue with the main wp query but the portfolio element already contains the wp_reset_query(); function which should avoid any issues/conflicts with the main query.

Hi Kriesi,

thanks for your ongoing support. However the bug still persists in Version 1.5 and is reproducible on my WP installation. A page looks fine as long as I don't have Page Splits around the breadcrumb item in the Dynamic Template Builder. Once I add the Page Splits to show the Breadcrumbs on the Alternate Content Setting, the sidebar is not shown anymore. When I remove the Page Splits again, the sidebar comes back.

If you want, I can send you the URL, password etc. to an an email address so you can check it on my webspace.

Rgds

Hi ezphilosophy,

We'll need to take a look at what you have now to see exactly what css will be needed to try and fix that.

Regards,

Hey! Just checked it! I cant reproduce the error, probably because its an error we already fixed with version 1.2.0.

Please update to the latest version (you probably want to wait 24 hours from this post, since the next version is already in the pipeline) and the template should be displayed fine ;)

Cheers!

Disclaimer: I'm new. :-)

I started a new page, no parent, default template. I named it "Test Front Page". In the Layout box, I chose "Test Template".

In the Choices Template Builder, I created a new template. I named it "Test Template". For the layout, I chose "right sidebar" and added a slideshow.

In Appearance->Widgets, under the area "Sidebar Pages", I put in the "Choices Latest Portfolio" widget and edited it to my liking.

At this point, everything looks good on my frontpage. I have a moving slideshow and my sidebar has a list of portfolio items.

After this, in the Template Builder, I add a Portfolio element. After updating, my previous portfolio-item-list sidebar is replaced with what I guess to be the default sidebar content, with "Pages", "Categories", and "Archives".

If I remove the Portfolio element, it will revert to the intended portfolio item list. If I move the widget to a different sidebar, e.g., "Displayed Everywhere" or "Sidebar Blog", it will also display my intended portfolio list. However, I don't want it displayed on "everywhere" or on the blog, I only want it on the front page.

How do I control this sidebar? How do I remove the Pages, Categories, and Archives list from my sidebar?

Thanks for any help!
