Hi Anothony,

The changes you make in functions.php just change the size of the image that gets generated. The classes and containers all throughout the site will still decide how large an image is in any given situation.

So for that page you've linked, you've set the slideshow_container to 600px but that is still inside the inner-entry container, which is inside the one_third grid.

You'll need to modify the grid if you want to expand the size of the thumbnail. Keep in mind however that if you alter the grid it alters the grid wherever it is used.

Have you tried setting that portfolio to use a 2 column layout instead of 3 columns? It will (at the very least) give you larger images for that page.

Regards,

Devin

Hi Team !
I've set a custom height and width to the slideshow in :
function.php
.slideshow

But now, the thumbnails for my portfolio take this size as they got the class .slideshow...
How can I fix this ?
Anthony

Hi!

Yes, because WordPress will always center crop images...

Best regards,

OK, but even if I change this values, nothing prevent the fact that the thumbnail will not show his hands instead of his head then.
I'm ok with the thumbnail size. It just want to choose wich part of the picture will appear in the thumbnail.
If I clearly understand, the only way is to had two pictures in the slideshow to achieve that.
Correct ?

WordPress will not use the (manually) cropped image but it will generate the preview thumbnail based on the dimension definitions in functions.php. You can try to change the width/height values of following two definitions:

$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio'] = array('width'=>495, 'height'=>400 , 'copy'=>'greyscale');	// images for portfolio entries (2,3 column)
$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio_small'] = array('width'=>284, 'height'=>211 , 'copy'=>'greyscale');	// images for portfolio 4 columns

Afterwards regenerate the thumbnails with: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
You can also deactivate the image cropping - just add " 'crop'=>false" to the array.

Hi Devin,
Forgive my explanations if it wasn't clear enough.
Here is a link to explain it :

http://www.fredericbouraly.com/workinprogress/?page_id=748

See the last portfolio item ? I really can't say that my client is clearly identified on that thumbnail.

What I did : Create portfolio item, upload/insert media, crop a good thumbnail image, use it for "set as featured image",
then, add image to slideshow, set all options and update.
No matter what I do, I can't set correctly the thumbnail with a correctly cropped image.

The only solution is to use photoshop to set a second image to the dimensions then add it to the slideshow and check
the option "don't show the first image"... Tedious process when the client is an artist with a lot of picture to add...

Thank for your help !

Anthony

P.S : hope it's clear now ;)

Hi OuangDrak78,

I'm not sure what you mean. When you upload a single image to the Featured Media it will get automatically re-sized into a few different files to be used by the theme. One of them is the thumbnails size which I don't believe should be cropped but instead just scaled down to fit the thumbnail area.

You can see all the sizes that get created in the theme's functions.php.

Regards,

There is an answer in this post : http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/portfolio-thumbnails-vs-image
But with this solution we have to send two images for each portfolio items which is a quite heavy process.
Again, when I edit the thumbnail view, there is no change in the portfolio preview.

Hi support team,
I can't figure out how to correctly set the portfolio thumbnails.
I upload a high resolution image, and the thumbnail show
a cropped version of the image.

I saw that I can set a different version of the image for the thumbnail size
but changes aren't applied to portfolio thumbnail view.

Do I have to upload two versions of the same image, one in full size and the other at 241x179 ?
Is the portfolio thumbnail generated by the featured image ?
What is the correct process to have a correctly cropped thumbnail for a big res image ?

Thanks a lot for the time spent,
Anthony

P.S : My customer really enjoyed the theme ;)
