Hi,

Here is the page that gives the instructions for changing the portfolio code to RTL http://isotope.metafizzy.co/docs/help.html#righttoleft_layouts

There is CSS above on this post, but your best bet is to contact RSL, his email is above since he worked it all out and is certain to help a fellow Arabic sites developer. But the code in this post will definitely get you going, and if you get stuck just post your url here and we will help you work it out.

Thanks,

Hi,

The quickest thing to do would be to run Photoshop in batch mode and ftp the files over. Photoshop will also add the suffix to the new images it makes and it will process a thousand images in an hour or two.

There is also a plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/thumbgen/ which is a function that creates a duplicate of any image on the fly while applying whichever filters (including grayscale) and saves it on the server.

Thanks,

Thanks RSL, I haven't used those plugins before.

Terry, Please download and install the plugins that RSL spoke about in the above post. Start playing around with the plugins on your test site till you start seeing what is missing to complete the RTL modifications. First step is always to make a list of the customizations needed and then tackle them one by one. This way the task loses the abstraction and uncertainty about which direction to take.

Thanks,

Hi,

First of all, you have to use a multilanguage plugin to have the frontend in Hebrew & the backend in English. There's a free plugin called polylang that'll do it: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/polylang/ but the paid plugin @ wpml.org is much more comprehensive. It'll also help you to easily translate text strings in the template & plugins easily. The primary function of both is to have multiple languages in the frontend though.

I've managed to convert many templates' CSS to RTL successfully using the following plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rtler/

That plugin saves you hours as it mirrors everything for you. Just make sure that you apply it to all the css files used for your template. On Kriesi's Eunoia template - I had to apply it to base.css & layout.css and then combine the results in a new rtl.css that is placed in the template root.

You'll still have to fine-tune some stuff - but not too much - it literally saves you hours.

The only problem that you'll have is with framework specific stuff (with Kriesi's templates that's the avia framework stuff). Nick is very kindly helping me out (thanks a lot) with a specific issue regarding the portfolio framework.

I suggest you checkout the above-mentioned plugins. I'm not an expert developer by a long-shot - but I've managed to setup numerous Arabic & English sites using non-RTL enabled templates by using the above plugins & some help from template developers for their framework specific stuff.

Hi,

Could you put up a demo with the plugin please? I was going to play around with it this weekend, but I forgot that you want two version to work depending on the plugin's language selection.

Logically something like this needs to happen:

1) Page starts loading
2) jQuery checks selector of plugin to see what language is shown
3) conditionally LTR or RTL sections of code are executed

or possibly can also use PHP to conditionally enqueue avis.js or avis-rtl.js based on metadata from the plugin. Since I don't have it, I am not sure what method it uses to keep track of which language to display for visitors, cookies, meta data, etc...

There are two or three locations where the categories are being displayed, did you change all of them?

Thanks,

Hi,

Keep practicing. Download firebug and web developer extensions for your browser and you will be able to follow along a lot better. At the bottom of the link there is a working demo version of portfolio sorter that is RTL. If I have free time I will take a closer look but it looks obfuscated.

Hi,

I've got 100s of images uploaded in the Media Library that were uploaded pre-Eunoia. I've used the 'Regenerate Thumbnails' plug in to give me the correct sizes for my images for Eunoia. I was able to recreate all the thumbnails successfully but it doesn't seem to generate the greyscale versions required for the portfolio. I've also tried the 'Force Regenerate Thumbnails' plugin with no luck.

Is there anyway to generate the greyscale image version for all of my pre-uploaded images without haven’t to manually re-upload hundreds if images?

I currently have Eunoia version 1.1 installed.

Hi Nick,

I've managed to RTL everything else required in the theme so far. I think the only thing remaining is to start the Portfolio Items from the Right.

I'll try & have a look - I presume it's the avia.js that contains the Isotype javascript that needs to be changed as per the help link you sent me. The only thing is I haven't got a clue how I can change it only for RTL & keep it the same for LTR.

Hi,

I was just looking into RTL for someone ( http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/rtl-portfolio-items-rtl-menu ) who wanted to customize a different theme which also uses Kriesi's framework to have an English/Arabic RTL website.

Please look at some of the issues involved in the above link. In my opinion to completely do the conversion - to make a mirror image of the site to accommodate right to left text would be excruciatingly time intensive task involving the modification of at least 10 or more core files - CSS, PHP, and jQuery to change widgets, sidebars, categories, galleries, etc...

Since you mentioned that you are not a developer, I think the best solution would be (as I suggested to the other person) to hire a freelancer to customize your web property and truly make it stand out with full right-to-left specifications. I've listed a few important links , as well as code blocks, that will help you get the project on the right track.

Thanks,

Hi,

Unfortunately it's not feasible for the support team to redo significant areas of the theme as a mirror image. Besides, there are even more areas where you will run into the same issues. Your best bet is to hire a freelancer to further customize your theme and truly make your site fully right-to-left compatible.

Hi Nick,

I actually had just worked out a simple CSS solution for reversing the Portfolio Sort Menu order:

#js_sort_items {
	float: right;
	padding-left:5px;
	padding-right: 0;
}

#js_sort_items a {
	float:right;
	margin-left:6px;
	margin-right: auto;
}

But unfortunately the more important solution for actually starting the PORTFOLIO ITEMS from the right for RTL still hasn't been resolved - any ideas??

Thanks

Hi,

Ok, I understand now. Mistake was mine for not thinking it through more. The solution is below, yet there are several other places throughout the theme where you will run into similar issues, though this is the most obvious case.

Please open loop-portfolio.php which is in the includes folder of the theme *after* you backed up and saved the original file.

Find a block of code approximately between lines 67-83:

$output .= "<div class='sort_by_cat $hide '>";
$output .= "<a href='#' data-filter='all_sort' class='all_sort_button active_sort'>".__('All','avia_framework')."</a>";
 foreach($categories as $category)
 {
 $output .= "<span class='text-sep ".$category->category_nicename."_sort_sep'>/</span>";
 $output .= "<a href='#' data-filter='".$category->category_nicename."_sort' ";
 $output .= "class='".$category->category_nicename."_sort_button' >".$category->cat_name."</a>";

 $container_id .= $category->term_id;
 }
 $output .= "</div>";
 $output .= "</div></div>";

 //fake pagesplit

and replace it with the code below

$output .= "<div class='sort_by_cat $hide '>";

 $categories = array_reverse($categories, true); //reverses categories for right-to-left languages
 foreach($categories as $category)
 {
 $output .= "<span class='text-sep ".$category->category_nicename."_sort_sep'>/</span>";
 $output .= "<a href='#' data-filter='".$category->category_nicename."_sort' ";
 $output .= "class='".$category->category_nicename."_sort_button' >".$category->cat_name."</a>";

 $container_id .= $category->term_id;
 }
 $output .= "<a href='#' data-filter='all_sort' class='all_sort_button active_sort'>".__('All','avia_framework')."</a>"; //All displayed last in right to left languages
 $output .= "</div>";
 $output .= "</div></div>";

 //fake pagesplit

Please let us know how it went.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. That has made the sort menu right-aligned but the sort menu items are still LTR so ALL is on the left.

But the actual portfolio items start from the left & so if we have less items than the available width e.g. 1 or 2 items - they are left aligned so this looks wrong with an RTL language. Any idea how to resolve that?

Regarding the WPML problems that you need access to - I'm actually on local dev install but I'll upload it tonight so that you can have a look.

Hi,

Please:

1) Add this code to Quick CSS in backend - Eunoia > Theme Options > Styling

#js_sort_items{float: right}

For your other questions, I must see the plugin inside Eunoia.

Thanks,

Hi,

Our site is in both English & Arabic language using WPML. All of the CSS seems to work fine for Arabic RTL but is there a way to resolve these remaining issues for the Arabic/RTL:

1. In portfolios - how can we start items form the Right & not Left
2. We are displaying the WPML language selector in the Main Menu which displays after the normal menus on the right for English/LTR thus becoming the last menu item but it also does the same for Arabic/RTL menu thus becoming the first menu item. Can the menu order be reversed for RTL so that the language selector as the last (right-most) menu item for RTL?

Also, how can we change the Horizontal WPML language switcher that appears in the header on the top right with flags to show language names instead of flags?

Unfortunately I have no experience with rtl language mods. Basically everything can be done on the CSS level and you need to change the text float from left to right (you need to replace all occurences of float: left to float: right and vice versa). Some instructions can be found here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Right-to-Left_Language_Support

Hi, sorry if this has been posted and answered before (if so, please point me to the right thread for the Sentence theme (Ive seen some for Cubit but want to be sure its the right one)).

How do I change the theme to use Hebrew language (but still maintain English in the WP dashboard
And assuming that bit is possible, how do I then change the text direction to right to left (both the fields as well as text in the forms/ posts)
Is this something that needs to be done in PHP or can I change it in the CSS sheets.

Please bear in mind Im not a pro at this, so try to use laymans terms where possible.

Appreciate any and all help
