Hi Samantha,

Go to the theme options>Styling tab and where it allows you to choose your Heading Font, set that to "no custom font". Then the themes base style.css will set the font to use Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial and finally a sans-serif font if none of those are available just like a normal web page would load in a font.

Regards,

I have no idea what could cause that. On a windows7 machine running the most recent update of IE I'm not getting any issues or errors so I can only conclude there is any issue with a add on, plugin or specific computer setting that is causing IE to incorrectly render the pages.

Dude,
Thanks for the reply!
How would I do that and what happens if I deactivate the font replacement script? Will a default font be used in all other browser's?

Thank you,

Hi Devin,
Thank you for the confirmation that both sites look ok in your IE9 browser. I tried to view the demo site as well and it isn't looking correct either. Screen shot's are below of all 3 sites including the demo. You can see the error I get when I try to view the sites at the bottom of the Pure Illuminations link. Without compatibility mode on it doesn't display anything but black space.

If you have any idea's as to why this might be happening, I'm all ears! I'm going to see if an uninstall and reinstall will fix the issue.

Thank you,

I can view the other site now as well but don't have any issues with IE9, Chrome or FF. Try viewing the demo site on your end and see if you still get the same issue: http://www.kriesi.at/themes/flashlight/

That's an cufon script issue. Unfortunately IE8 won't execute the font replacement script properly if the sidebar is hidden. Thus you can either deactivate the font replacement script or just show the sidebar by default and let the user decide if he wants to hide it or not.

Hi Devin, thank you for responding!
I'm relieved somewhat that http://www.waynebchandler.com looks good to you. However, It's strange you aren't able to pull up http://www.pureilluminations.com and even stranger that both of them are not working correctly in my IE9 browser. I've just upgraded computer's. This is a new version of IE9, however I've checked for updates to make sure I'm using the correct one.

If no one else can see the issue then it must be something on my end but it would be good to have some verification or send a screen shot of what I'm seeing if I could. Is that possible?

Hi,

PSD files are layered image files which are a graphical representation, the skin of the website, as it is drawn. You can think of them as a 'snapshot', a graphical template with guides positioned at various level to indicating segments such as logo and all page elements which are later converted to either individual images for backgrounds or to CSS codes as appropriate.

PSD files are opened with Adobe Photoshop and 'chopped up' right into png/jpg or imported into Adobe Fireworks (depending on the preference of the designer/developer). The PSD files which came with the theme would allow you to change all graphical aspects of the site since the guides indicate the correct size of every single image used in your theme.

However, without a firm understanding of Wordpress, PHP, CSS, HtmL5 and jQuery you would have a difficult time 're-designing' the Theme on your own. The learning curve would be steep. On the same note, many people quickly pick up bits and pieces, enough to comfortably make cosmetic changes, and rearrange/supplement an existing design.

You should download Firebug browser add-on as well as Developer Tools for Firefox or Chrome (Firebug Lite) and you will be able to see how CSS, Images, HTML all interact via the document object model. I suggest you watch a YouTube video on Firebug, since without understanding that tool you will be lost.

If you spend 6 hours practicing, while watching Youtube videos and reading supplemental tutorials, you will get an understanding of at least what needs to be done and more importantly, gain a useful skill applicable to your trade and interests.

You are asking fair but challenging questions which are difficult to answer in a way that will be satisfactory to you, and will do nothing but create more questions, since what you really want to know is where to start. Your website is located on a server and can be accessed via FTP. Please download http://filezilla-project.org/download.php and get the login/pw/port/url from your host. You can setup a local environment to play around with Wordpress by downloading XAMPP http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html (for Windows, Apple or Linux).

To change menus, right click on them (after installing firebug) and inspect the sections of the html by left clicking the html tags, the right panel will show you which css selectors are producing the colors, fonts, sizes, position of each element and in which css files the selectos are located.

http://www.youtube.com/user/killerphp (has a whole list of *free* videos*, and if you search on Youtube there are entire 60 minute free follow along video classes)

As with any subject, to gain skill one must practice and study.

Good luck,

Nick

[Disclosure: I am not affiliated with any of the three URLs I've listed above. I use both the free XAMPP installer and opensource Filezilla and randomly picked a cool looking Youtube video.)

I've begun checking my site and another clients site in IE9 and I'm having major display error's.
The two sites are http://www.pureilluminaitons.com and http://www.waynebchandler.com

In IE9, the Menu looks very distorted and crunched up. On the one site it's overlapping the text in some of the menu items. The content area is not showing any of the content. The blog page has just the divider's. It looks very bad and I've no idea why.

Could you please help?

Thank you,

P.S. There is one bug / error that I forgot to mention with hiding the menu when the site loads. It's occurring In IE8. The text for the menu is not showing on the Frontpage when you click the home button to make the menu show up. It's very difficult, sometime's, to click on the links to the other pages. But when I do go to other pages, the menu text is showing just fine. I've not tested this in all browser's yet but it appears to be happening in just IE8.

Are there any idea's on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Ismael,
Thanks for the video link. I've not had a moment yet to review it and attempt it but I will. I've been trying different methods with the .htc file but to no avail.... yet.
I've run into some other problems that I'm more concerned about and will have to post another ticket about.

I do have an update on the first question I had about hiding the menu on the home page.
I tried the code that Dude suggested in the avia.js file and it didn't work for me in Chrome or IE8 & 9.

I did find a solution though! I was able to make the menu hidden though by creating a page for the Front Page. I called this page "about". Then at the the bottom of the page, there is an option for Instant Gallery Background. I set this to hide the navigation upon loading the page. This method appears to work for Chrome, IE 8 & 9. I still need to test it though in other browser's.

Thanks,
Samantha

Hello, im also a new-buyer (being designer only) of the theme. I have little coding knowledge, so im interested in same or similar subjects...
As far as i can answer yours, its totaly possible, but from i've seen, the shape of the main-menu (meaning the dark or light rectangular behind the navigation buttons and the logo) is not a png-file, or a graphic, but more likely a patterned image, with defined dimentions, probably in the css file.

I hope some of the developers around would join this to make things even clearer. Thanks from me in advance :)

Hi,

IE8 doesn't support border radius, the solution is to create border radius images or do it via jquery.

Hi!
Thanks for the tips!
Somehow I managed to get the home page to show up with the menu hidden. I'll have to look at the other post you suggested to see which method leaves the most flexibility.

In the meantime, I've done some research and was able to find some additional code to make this happen in all the browser's except for IE 8 or earlier. Is there a way to create the rounded corner's for IE 8 and earlier as well? My client is using one of these older browser's unfortunately, and can't see that i've made the changes.
Here's the code I'm using now:

.box {
opacity: 0.8;
border:none 0px #000000;
-moz-border-radius-topleft: 30px;
-moz-border-radius-topright:30px;
-moz-border-radius-bottomleft:30px;
-moz-border-radius-bottomright:30px;
-webkit-border-top-left-radius:30px;
-webkit-border-top-right-radius:30px;
-webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:30px;
-webkit-border-bottom-right-radius:30px;
border-radius: 30px;
}

Thank you!
Samantha

I would like to change the shape of the main menu and maybe the shape for the content area and the mini content area,
how and where I can upload my new files, where the standard files are located? Can i just replace those graphics? or o other words

Hey!

1) Add following code to css/custom.css and adjust the border radius value:

.box {
    border-radius: 8px;
}

2) Have a look at this post: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/start-webside-in-fullscreen-mode-without-menu#post-54243

Hello,
1. Is it possible to customize the shape of the main menu and main content area boxes to have rounded corners? It's too boxy looking for my client's tastes.

2. I'd like for the landing page or Home page to have the menu hidden when a visitor enter's the site. I realize they can do this by clicking on the hide menu button but it's not as obvious at first and I'd like to showcase the photos upon arrival.

Thank you,

Hi sgilbride,

As far as I know no, that is the only way to get the setting to be available via the theme options. You could hide the controls by adding the following CSS to your Quick CSS (located under the Styling Tab in the theme options) or the custom.css file in the css folder of your theme files:

.arrowslidecontrolls_fullscreen {
display: none;
}

As for the font color, you can add the following css and edit it to your needs:

body {
color: #888;
}

Some quick color values can be found here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colors.asp

Hi crimoeller,

Try this solutions:

1.) Try to add this code:

.home .post-entry.entry-mini .box {
background: transparent !important;
}

If you want your mini content box transparent everywhere else you can use this one instead:

.post-entry.entry-mini .box {
background: transparent !important;
}

2.) Make sure that the image you create is in this dimension(300x20px) and make it a png file. Rename it using this name: "hr.png", Upload it via ftp to your wp-content/themes/flashlight/images/skin-minimal/ folder. This should replace the image with your own custom image.

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

Hi there,

I've figured everything out except for:

1. How do I make only the Mini Content box on the home page transparent? The code above is not working (I am not using the 3 column portfolio layout...just a simple page w/o images).

2. How do I remove the lightning bolts underneath the page header? Ideally I'd like to upload my own image...can I do this?

Thanks!

One more thing I forgot to ask... I want to make the font in the content area a different color, either black or white, so that it can be read now that I've made the background transparent. I may make the menu area transparent too but that depends on the answer to the question above. :-) Is there a way to isolate the body copy/text in the the content area only and change the color of it?

I figured out the answer to my first question for at least one of my sites. I wanted only one static image but when I added a 2nd image the hide sidebar and content options came up. So I guess we need to have at least 2 images. If there is a work around I've not figured out yet, please let me know.

Greetings!
I'm using this theme for two different sites and just realized that I can't find any controls for hiding the sidebar and content as shown in the preview on themeforest.com. On both of my sites the controls are showing up on the bottom even though I've them set to show.
The sites are pureilluminaitons.com and waynebchandler.com.
How do I make that option appear on both of my sites?

Thank you!

I have one more question I forgot to post...

Hi Ismael,

Thanks for the quick reply.

1. I changed the logo bg and separator, but the main content bg will not change to transparent with the above code...I really only need the mini content on the welcome page to become transparent...is there any way to isolate this?

2. Is it possible to change the horizontal rule divider on my pages to a dotted line? I need to get remove the lightning bolt in the center...

3. And finally, I have a static bg image which I notice reloads with every new page...is there any way to keep the bg image and just load the page content when the menu items are clicked?

Thanks so much...

Hi,

1.) To make your main-content transparent, you can add this on your custom.css

.portfolio-size-3.content .box, .container.three_columns .content .box {
width: 660px;
background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.8);
}

2.) You can use .png to have a transparent logo. If that doesn't work add this snippet on your custom.css again.

#top .logo img {
background: none;
}

3.) To have a dotted menu separator. Add this on your custom.css.

.main_menu .menu a {
border-bottom: 1px dotted #EEE;
}

4.) I can't inspect the site on iPad so I will tag the rest of the support team to help you out.

Hi there,

I just purchased Flashlight and I have absolutely no coding knowledge so the forum has been really helpful...I have some questions and haven't found the answers yet but I think they're pretty basic...here goes:

1. I want to change the background color of my page content to transparent. How does that work?
2. I uploaded my logo in .gif and also tried .png with a transparent background and the gallery automatically gives it a black background...which does not work on my white navbar...what is the best way to upload my logo so that the background remains transparent?
3. The navbar menu items are separated by a thin gray line...how can I change this to a dotted line...a lot of my company's graphics incorporate dotted lines so this is an important change.
4. On my welcome page I am using the mini content section (just like the Flashlight demo page)...on my ipad my mini content jumps to the top of the page and is blurry...but the ipad loads the Flashlight demo page normally. What is going on with my welcome page? My website is jurgans.com

I really appreciate any help I can get!! Thanks!
