<p>Hey,<br />
your changes won't persist if you update the theme files. Some people use child themes to compensate this drawback but personally I'd just add my code to the very bottom of style.css or style1.css. If we release an update you can simple copy and paste your "custom section" to the new stylesheet and you're done within seconds. The only drawback is that you've a few lines of unnecessary code because you need to overwrite the original style rules.

<p>What is the best way to go about customizing WP themes? Specifically, I am using the Newscast theme and would like to know the best file to edit or add in order that my changes will persist if the theme ever updates.</p>
<p>Will my edits persist in style.css? Will they persist in style1.css</p>
<p>Should I create my own file and have it load after the theme's own css files?</p>
<p>thanks
