Hi Siobhan,

Yes, the link is working correctly for me on Chrome. As far as I know and looking at that link it is working as it is supposed to. The target=_blank is what is opening a new blank window but the mailto: is correct.

Regards,

Hi,

Thanks alot for the CSS - that has fixed making the links clickable and marking text issues.

For me when I click on the contact us link on that page, it just opens a blank tab and for this page http://etool.net.au/software/etool-users/regional-partner/ with the link in the call out button, it doesn't do anything - no blank page or email pop up.

Are either of these working for you? I'm on the most recent version of Chrome if that helps.

Thanks, Siobhan

On this page: http://etool.net.au/eblog/news/recognising-etool-lca-for-urban-international-developments/ the link works just fine however your facebook comment plugin overlaps the entire text/content area and thus you can click on the link (and you can't even mark the text with the mouse cursor). Add following css code to css/custom.css to fix the issue:

div#fbSEOComments {
clear: both;
}

Hi Peter,

Thanks. I've just inserted the link as suggested mailto:info@etool.net.au and it's not linking to anything.

As you hover over the button on the web page, the code you have above doesn't show, just the mailto text.

I tried this originally and it didn't work which is why I started the thread. Could something be blocking the link?

At the bottom of this blog post http://etool.net.au/eblog/news/recognising-etool-lca-for-urban-international-developments/ I have put a mailto link in the contact us text as well and this isn't working as it should either.

Thanks, Siobhan

At the moment the link code looks like:

<a class="big_button" href="<a href="mailto:info@etool.net.au" target="_blank"</a>">Contact Us</a>

So it's a link wrapped into a link. Try to insert your mailto address into the link field (without the a href code, etc- just insert mailto:info@etool.net.au). Afterwards the code should look like:

<a class="big_button" href="mailto:info@etool.net.au">Contact Us</a>

and this will work.

Hi Peter,

If you click on the call out box on this page, it has the mailto link in it http://etool.net.au/software/etool-users/regional-partner/

Also, I've just added a mailto link at the bottom of this blog post, as the hyperlink above it (read) isn't working. Neither of the links on this page are working.

http://etool.net.au/eblog/news/recognising-etool-lca-for-urban-international-developments/

I've uninstalled all but the necessary plugins (which have been in since day one with no problems) and no change.

Hyperlinks in other areas of the website seem to be fine e.g. at the bottom of this one http://etool.net.au/residential/process/

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks, Siobhan

Hi!

Can you provide a link to your website/page please where you're using the Text Area/Callout/Quotes element with the mailto link? I need to investigate the code first hand.

Best regards,

Hi Devin,

Thanks for the new link. I've given that a try but unfortunately it also doesn't work.

In the template builder, I'm using the Text Area/Callout/Quotes for the bottom of the page design - styling as follows...
Text Styling - Callout Style
Callout Button Label - Contact Us
Callout Button Link - Link Manually - Contact Us
Text that should be displayed - Want to know more?<span style="color:#107670"> Register your interest in our Assessor Light program today! </span>

It just links to an Error 404 page with this URL
http://etool.net.au/software/etool-users/assessor-light/%3Ca%20href=%22mailto:alex@etool.net?Subject=Assessor%20Light%22%3E%20Contact%20Us%3C/a%3E

I've just tried it in a regular blog post with the usual mailto link and when I clicked on it, it brought up a blank page. Is it possible that a plugin is blocking it?

It's such a straightforward thing, I don't get why it's so difficult to get it working!

Thanks, Siobhan

Hi Siobhan,

If you are using this link in a text area, you just need to use the actual HTML instead of plain text. Create the link you want in the visual editor and then switch to the HTML tab view. Now copy the HTML from that into the text area in the dynamic template.

You can also use this as an easy illustrative tool: http://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_mailto

Hi Devin,

Thanks for the video, but I'm actually trying to link within the template builder on a call out button - there isn't a place to add link to text using the usual post editing feature in Wordpress.

Within the template builder, I'm trying to manually add a mailto link so that when someone clicks on the call button, an email pops up with the email address and subject line populated. I've tried just typing in mailto:info@etool.net.au which is what you would do in a regular wordpress post to link text and have also tried a mailto url encoder http://email.about.com/library/misc/blmailto_encoder.htm but that doesn't seem to work either.

Is there a specific workaround for call out buttons and mailto urls, or have I missed something?

Thanks, Siobhan

Hi Siobhan,

You should be able to just create a normal link in the visual editor. Here is a video on it that should help you: http://mcbuzz.wordpress.com/2007/11/01/wordpress-tutorial-how-to-make-text-into-a-link-using-wordpress/

Hi,

I'm trying to link a Call Out Button in Corona to a mail to link. I'm linking manually to this e.g. mailto:info@etool.net.au
It doesn't work, so I'm just wondering if there is a work around?
I don't want to link it to the contact form in the site, so is there an external link I can use that will give me the same outcome as a mailto link?

Also is it possible to have the email come up with the address and a custom subject line?

Thanks, Siobhan
