Hi there,

I want to add an additional 5 custom meta textboxes to the portfolio item edit screen and then call them in the theme. Is there an easy way to do this or would you be able to recommend me a good tutorial on how to do so?

Thank you in advance

Hi!

The code can be found in corona\includes\admin\register-admin-metabox.php - just add your post type to the "page" array like:

'page'=>array('post','page','portfolio','mycustompost')

Hello! I have created a Custom Post Type with the Custom Post Type UI.

Can you help me configure things so the "Post Layout" option is available with the custom post types? If I need to register the custom post type manually I am happy to do so.

I am upgrading from Display to Flagship, and all my portfolio posts were standard posts with portfolio categories, now they won't appear in portfolios as they dont have the custom post type portfolio. Is there a way to use standard post categories instead of a custom post type?

Also I am setting this up on a subdomain to test first, how can I migrate all my settings (but not post database), once it is setup? Can I just copy the theme folder via ftp?

Same problem with post/page module in dynamic templates was much easier to solve:

function post_page($element)
{
case'self': $query_id = $this->post_id; $type = get_post_type( $this->post_id ); break;
}
//WPML ready
if (function_exists('icl_object_id')) $query_id = icl_object_id($query_id, $type, true);

Good news, i got it to work. As i saw later on in helper-templates.php a call like icl_object_id($term_id, 'portfolio_entries', true);

The type 'portfolio_entries' works for categories, too. The beginning of my dynamic portfolio() function is now like this:

function portfolio($element)
{
extract($element['saved_value'][0]);
global $avia_config;

 $avia_config['portfolio_columns'] = $portfolio_columns;
$avia_config['portfolio_item_count'] = $portfolio_item_count;
$catArray = explode(',', $portfolio_cats_dynamic);

 if (function_exists('icl_object_id'))
{
foreach ($catArray as $key => $value ) {
$catArray[$key] = icl_object_id($value, 'portfolio_entries', true);
}
}
$portfolio_cats_dynamic = implode(",", $catArray);
...
...

Now i can create a single dynamic templates with portfolios, just assign the categories in my primary language and all the language hustle is fixed automaticly.

Yes - the documentation: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/creating-multilingual-wordpress-themes/language-dependent-ids/#2 just mentions ‘post’, ‘page’, ‘post_tag’ or ‘category’. I'd create a feature request thread here: http://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/ and ask them to extend the function.

Update: Seems to be a malfunction in WPML.

I was able to set the translated cat-ID manually right after helper-templates.php:470 in $portfolio_cats_dynamic. Worked in the frontend.
So I tried to do it with icl_object_id() but it always returns the same ID that I pass to it.

Googling i found that icl_object_id cannot handle custom post types and categories by default. too bad :-/
http://till.klampaeckel.de/blog/archives/167-WPML-icl_object_id-and-custom-post-types.html

Hello!

Regarding line 949, this seems to affect the static portfolio page only, not the dynamic template portfolio.

I will try to trace where the category IDs are lost on the way to the portfolio loop :-)

Best regards

Edit: seems that avia_config is empty when calling a translated page on line 8 of loop-portfolio.php ... confusing.

Well, I was trying to patch this in portfolio-loop, by modifying the includeArray:

//transform CATs for languages
if(function_exists('icl_object_id')) {
foreach ($includeArray as &$value) {
$value = icl_object_id($value,'category',true);
}
}

By this I got a warning that the array is empty. How is that possible - there are 3 cat's assigned to the dynamic template.

Hey Guys!

This is a little more than the usual support covers and the reason why that the case can be read here: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress/rock-solid-wordpress-3-0-themes-using-custom-post-types/

thats a tutorial on how to add your own custom post types and as you can see this is a very extensive topic.
So first of all follow the turoial above. If you have added a new custom post type (lets say it is named "cards")

if you want to have the same options for this post type (slideshow, layout options etc) you need to open the register-admin-metabox.php file in includes/admin and in the first array modify all sub arrays that read:

'page'=>array('post','page')

by appending the name of the new type

'page'=>array('post','page','cards')

You will probably also need to clone the single-portfolio.php file and rename it to single-cards.php

As you can see this is not an easy task and nothing that is covered by the usual support. If you have problems with adding these options to the theme I would recommend to hire a freelancer :)

For WPML and the cat-filter to work proper, I create a translated copy of the hotel-category, too.

Next I create a dynamic template with portfolio and assign it to all languages of the page. works for the primary language but when i switch to second language, the portfolio is empty. the frontend doesn't recognize that it has to use the translated version of the hotel-category.

So i wanted to work-around and create dynamic templates for each language - but at this point the template builder just shows me the cat's of the first language ... I cannot select the translated versions of the hotel-category.

The final question:

I there a way to generate one single dynamic template which recognizes the different languages of my hotel-category??

Hi,

I also created a Custom Post type but I need that custom type to inherit of all the functionnalities of the post type : Layout choice, slideshow options and so slideshow integration in front office.

Could you tell me which actions and modifications must I make (in a child theme ?)

Regards.

To explain in more detail;

I need 2 other content types that behave similar to portfolio items. However I need the new post type contents to be listed under each portfolio item page. For example;

I have "portfolio items" UK, USA, Germany ...

Let's call the new content types as "cities" and "cards". I will create cities as London, Paris ... and several different cards as a, b, c, d, e ...

I will link each card with a city and a portfolio item. i.e. each card will belong to a city and a portfolio item (Country).

UK will have its cities (london, liverpool ...) and its cards listed on its portfolio page.
USA will have its cities (miami, NY ... ) and its cards listed on its portfolio page.

You can think of portfolio items as countries. USA, UK, Germany ...
Cities as; London, Berlin, Paris ...
Cards as; eiffel tower, louvre, thames river.

The output will look like;

UK page > london (thames river, etc...)
France page > paris ( eiffel tower, etc...)

I dit make some changes on a child theme that do the work.
http://www.dev.team-decade.com/wordpress/?page_id=31
by modifying:
template-blog.php (copying template-portfolio.php) and changing post type and category
includes\loop-blog.php

The great thing would be to be able to select a grid post Element in the template builder

Hey!

I am sorry, currently thats not possible since it would require some heavy modifications :/
I have added this to my research list, maybe there is an easy option to fix this but right now I dont see how this could work without ripping some templates appart ;D

best regards

Hi great theme.

I'm trying to adapt it for an existing theme but it hard due to portfolio post type and no choice with other custom post type

Is it possible to display posts the same way (grid) as portfolio (multiple entries)
Post could be filtered with categories or post-format

thanks for your help
