I'm guessing the only way to find out if this is the case is to deactivate them one at a time and check the archive display? The monthly dates are split where Dec 2011 start in descending order on top and January 2012 starts ascending until they meet in the middle. Ideally you shouldn't make changes through Wordpress' editor - instead use a text editor on your computer and use FTP to upload the file. Also, make sure you remove the closing div tag under the code you posted, you'll end up with layout issues otherwise as the code won't be valid.
