Hi dishdesigner,

I'll tag Kriesi on the idea of adding a button for changing the order of the slideshow but typically users don't have so many images in one where it wouldn't be practical to just drag and drop so it hasn't been requested yet as far as I know.

Regards,

One update on this topic:

The behavior of the pop-up window for adding images to galleries has changed in WP 3.5 and up. Now, there is a new "Add to Slideshow" button underneath the "Actions" column (where there used to be a sort order number to the left of the "Show" link to expand the item in the list....)

Even if you can't get the sort order to work correctly when clicking "Add all images to slideshow," you CAN at least click the "Add to Slideshow" button to the right of every image in the list manually and add them one at a time to the slideshow in either order you wish......you can click those buttons from the bottom up or top down in the list.

At least that's a lot faster than dragging and dropping the images in the slideshow list after they've been added, but still not ideal....
:-)

I'm using the Choices theme and WP 3.5, and I'm having the same issues as in this closed post:
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/order-if-images-in-gallery-not-updating

When you have a slideshow with many images in it, it is simply not practical to order the images by dragging and dropping every one of them!

Is there any way to get the sorting buttons labeled "Sort Order: Ascending | Descending | Clear" in the Gallery tab of the "Add image to slideshow" popup window to actually work?

The only thing I can think of as a workaround would be to use an image management program (like Adobe Bridge) to rename all of the images you want to upload into a slideshow using numeric suffixes (image-01, image-02, etc.), but to number them in REVERSE order before dragging and dropping onto the "From Computer" tab......

Obviously, this is not a desirable workflow! Users would then need to rename all of those images to something useful because those filenames appear in the theme. And if you've ever tried to rename 50+ files in a slideshow by clicking "All Tabs: Show" and expanding each image entry in the list to manually rename them all in Wordpress, you will know how time consuming this is!

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Yes, we have heard that Yoast is the 'best' for WordPress. We will take your advice, and got hat route.

Your best route for optimization would be using something like Yoast SEO: http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/

Going from yoursite.com/portfolio-item/the-name-of-the-item to yoursite.com/portfolio-category/the-name-of-the-item probably won't make a huge difference. Down the road if you feel the change would be worth the cost, you can look into it.

Devin,
Not SEO 'experts' (but know a bit), we have been under the impression, for the past few years, that long-tail URLs really do help site indexing and ranking "a lot." Do you—or any one else—know, for sure, that this is true—or not anymore? This would help us determine if we want to 'hard-code' the Permalinks.

Can you think of any other "issues" we would be getting into with such a large site?

Thanks,

There has to be at least some kind of prefix for the individual items as far as I know. I don't know how Genesis structures it, but they may not be using custom post types or something like that.

The number of portfolio items shouldn't be an issue.

There is a lot you can do with permalinks and re-writing them but there is also a lot of room for error and issues. Permalink complication can also significantly slow down a database. It gets in to a realm of complication not appropriate for these forums, but if you really want to customize them completely and believe it will help with SEO, I'd recommend looking into a freelance developer who can further customize the portfolio post type for exactly what you are looking for.

That way you have complete control over the final outcome.

Well, when we have used a 'normal' (non-ajaxed) WordPress template (with Genesis), it 'automatically' creates the long-tails based on the menu structure (Example: http://www.whyentrepreneursreallyfail.com/nozer-buchia-media/book-info/where-to-buy/ ).

So, if it's not possible with your template, if we 'delete' the slug text (make it blank), will it not be used? If so, then should we just manually edit the Permalink for the portfolio entry to be exactly what we want? i.e. make it: http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/internet-services/web-sites/add-impact --- if the slug can be 'removed' not to automatically appear).

Question then: Is there a 'limit' to how many portfolio items there can be? (we are planning to have 400-500, including all the navigation 'placeholders').

Hey!

Although the idea is quite nice, I really am not sure if wordpress supports that kind of functionality. As far as I know a custom post type (in our case the portfolio post type) can always only have a single page slug, especially if its a non hierachical post type.

You might be able to pulls off something like this with a lot of modifications but I wouldnt even know where to start, sorry...

I would like to request NEW FUNCTIONALITY for Angular portfolios: The ability to have multiple portfolio "page slugs," so that sites that have multiple portfolios (like ours will in the next month or so), can have "long-tail" urls that are more descriptive, increasing page ranking throughout the site.

EXAMPLE:
http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/
(Home page---this is just fine)

http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/internet-nav-test-page/
(We will be naming this 'page' "internet-services"---so this 'level' is fine)

http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/web-sites-test-page/
(We will be renaming this 'page' "web-sites"---so this 'level' is fine, too).

So, when we finally get to a 'page' (portfolio item), it 'adds' the "page slug" to it:
http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/example/add-impact/

What we would like to have is:
http://visualimpact.us/wordpress/internet-services/web-sites/add-impact
(Note: This is a made-up page, and does not exist)

[Note: We will be moving the site to VisualImpactSystems.com after we are finished developing it, so the "wordpress" will go away].

Thanks, ahead of time, for you effort on this,
Mark

It *can* be done, its just not something we could walk you through or provide the code for via support. It would have to be done by Kriesi as an added feature or by an experienced web developer willing to write the code.

Hi,
I know that this topic has been covered in these posts
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/several-portfolios-how-to-show-next-previous-navigation-only-for-current-cat

However, my question is if you can do it when loading the posts with Ajax / JQuery within a page using the template builder. Why can't it be done with Ajax / Jquery in the portfolio post page itself?

Thanks
