Hi!

It's not easily possible without a backend/framework change. I'm sorry.

I'd be also interested in changing the width of the footer's columns, i.e. having a 2 column footer, in a 25% - 75% proportion.
While we wait for the backend possibility, is there a way to tweak the code to achieve that?

Thanks

Hi 0rca,

The change would be global for the site, but the css will need to target the column and the widget inside of it to overwrite the current column code (since each column is set to be even with a %).

I'll put in a feature request with Kriesi for some backend ability for something like this. I agree that it would be a great feature to have :)

I'd be interested in this too. Since we're talking about the footer, this is independent from any specific page. I would like to be able to change the footer columns globally, i.e. have 3 columns, but 2 x 1/4 and 1 x 1/2 or something in that vain.

Where/How could I do that?

Hi shailendra89,

Can you provide a link to the page that needs the adjustment? Since the columns use base sitewide css, the css we give will need to be specific for the page.

Hi,

I wanted to add all the pages of my mega-menu to the footer. (to create exactly the same columms in the mega-menu and in the footer).

But, when I use the pages-widget, I'm only able to exclude pages. Is there a way to this the other way around?

A) To include only the few pages you want in a footer-column.
B) To specify the order of these pages yourself (so it won't be ordered on title, page-id,...)

Thanks already for your answers!

Hi there,

Great theme! I gave it 5 stars on Themeforest.

Please can you help me with a problem with specifying content for the footer columns?

In the first column I have the text widget with some HTML. It shows up fine.

In the second column I have some PHP to show titles of posts. I know this works since I have used it in a previous theme.

In the third column I have another PHP snippet to show and RSS feed of Flickr images. Also, this worked in a previous theme.

In the fourth column, I have again some HTML. But this time it does not execute.

Plain text with no code shows up fine in each of the columns. So for some reason the code in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th columns is not executing. I used a plugin Exec-PHP to see if that would make the PHP work, but it didn't. Please can you help me figure out how to execute the code in the footer box widgets?

Thank you!

EXAMPLE PHP CODE

Second column

<?php query_posts('category_name=school-blog&showposts=5'); ?>
<?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
        <li><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>">
          <?php the_title(); ?>
          </a>  </li>
        <?php endwhile; ?>

Third column

Hey James.

Yes, I did get it figured out after much pulling off the hair. I was hoping for a quick answer to stop my frustration, but by the wee hours of the morning next, I did solve my issue. Since I wanted the columns to be not all the same width, my end result in the stylesheet looks like this:

#top .footer .column1{
width:280px;
font-size: 11px;
line-height: 19px;
}

#top .footer .column2{
width:190px;
font-size: 11px;
line-height: 19px;
}

#top .footer .column3{
width:400px;
font-size: 11px;
line-height: 19px;
}

#top .footer .column3 h4{
font-size: 20px;
}

Everything else was edited as you laid out. By changing the widths of the different columns to fit what I needed for the client's footer spaces the blank column on the right disappeared. It took a lot of time to get to what it looks like now but its turned out okay in the end.

See for yourself by visiting the site construction pages at witnword.com/preview2 - that footer is looking almost perfect. Just have to do something about the link color in stylesheets 1-3 because its pretty much unreadable on this background color. Along with doing away with the default font and background appearing before the supposedly custom colored overlay.

Hey,

Firstly, how did you remove the 4th widget column? If you modified /widgets.php to adjust this code:

$k_option['custom']['footer'] = array('column1','column2','column3','column4');

to:

$k_option['custom']['footer'] = array('column1','column2','column3');

that's good, if not please use the above code to change the footer columns.

Next, open up footer.php and change this line:

if($columns == 4){$last = "last"; }

to this:

if($columns == 3){$last = "last"; }

There are now only 3 columns and the last one should have the last class added so it doesn't have any right margin.

Finally, the widget sections size is determined in the stylesheet (style.css). In style.css (around line 132), you should find this code:

.footerColumn {
    float: left;
    font-size: 11px;
    margin-right: 35px;
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
    width: 137px;
}

Change it to:

.footerColumn {
    float: left;
    font-size: 11px;
    margin-right: 35px;
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
    width: 280px; /* changed from 137px to make 3 col layout */
}

Save and upload, your footer should now look similar to this: http://cl.ly/061P052l3n2w2N3z1z3E

Let me know how you get on :)

Strange, I came to add to this message and it was marked Not A Support Question? Maybe that's why no one has answered 12 hrs. later.

I put the original code back into the style.css sheet before my client sees what happened and freaks out. To see what happened when I followed this last part of the directions from the other support post for this there's a screen shot of the mess it made at http://witnword.com/preview2/footer-code-mess.jpg.

How do I get rid of the extra space on the right of the footer and increase to width of the first column? I need the left column much wider for customer testimonials.

Looking forward to some help soon. I'd really like to finish this project as soon as possible.

I'm trying to create 3 columns in the footer instead of 4 like the default template. Found what looked like the right fix here in the support forum: Out Work Section on Home Page

That only made a shambles of my footer. Tiny font in both titles and content. You can't even read it! This has something to do with the last directive for changing the code in the style.css. Before I followed that part of the instructions, my titles were the right size and the columns were just about readable as far as font size and link titles go. Not real happy with the default link color. Thats another issue I must solve in this client's footer.

How did it go from what it was to this mess???? Client Site Preview. It took away the dark area behind the content for 'Why Avisio' or in this case, my client's Why Content. Then the code from the linked support thread totally messed up the top footer too. What happened??!!

I can put back the original style.css code, but that doesn't solve my problems. There doesn't appear to be a huge difference from the Avisio code in this part of the style sheet to the code that was given in the support thread. Obviously it isn't compatible at all with this design.

I need the columns to be different widths. Column 1 & 2 need to be narrower than Column 3 which should have thumbnails of the posts from the client's blog offsite RSS feed.... but I haven't gotten that far, yet.

Help! I need it to look like the Avisio footer but with 3 columns taking up the expanse and not crammed to the left of the container. Following the code suggested, right now it looks like this...

.social_bookmarks li {
float:left;
margin:0 7px 0 0;
width:16px;
}

#top .footer .column1, column2 {
overflow:hidden;
float:left;
position: relative;
margin-right:40px;
width:187px;
font-size:11px;
line-height: 19px;
}

#top .footer .column3 {
width:424px;
font-size: 11px;
line-height: 19px;
}

#top .footer .column3 h4 {
font-size: 20px;
}

.footer .entry a:hover img {
padding:3px;

So how do I fix these issues with the font sizes? And where do I find the colors for the widget titles in the footer and the links? They are hard to read on this background color.

It would be awesome to get this right - finishing this client's project is a huge immediate priority.

Thanks :)
