Hi,

Can you try uploading a brand new image just to test because sometimes low wordpress memory prevents the regeneration from taking place though nothing is shown to make the user aware that it didn't work.

Also are you using the latest version of the theme since for me using version 1.7 , , its line 79 that has the slider_thumb image size defines in functions.php

Do you have a url where I may look, you can mask it with http://www.goo.gl

Thanks,

Hi Nick:

Sorry the delay, but I just got around to trying this again. It did not work. I added the "copy=>greyscale" to all the other available listed images in functions.php near line 65, and then used the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to regenerate the whole database of images.....

It's the "Related Entries" thumbnails when you're viewing any given Portfolio Item entry page that remain in color....those are the ones I'd like to convert to black-and-white (until a rollover, when they turn to color by default everywhere else)....

Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hi,

Try adding 'copy'=>'greyscale' to additional image definitions in functions.php. Just be aware that you will need to reupload the images in order to generate the greyscale. You can try regenerating the images, but if there aren't too many of them , it would be better to just reupload them

Thanks,

Hi Kriei tech support:

I'm trying to force all site thumbnails using the Choices theme to ONLY display grayscale thumbnails in all areas of the site. Is there a central place to edit that would make that easy?....(it looks like functions.php starting on line 65 may be the target?....several lines have 'copy'=>'greyscale' after their sizing information in the array...)

For example, my client loves the grayscale thumbnails that appear in the portfolio areas. But, then the same thumbnail grid in "Related Entries" that appears under each portfolio entry uses color thumbnails and I would prefer that they not compete with the big portfolio images of the current project above them....

Best,
Darrin

Nick, ok what I found out to turn off color or gray scale is you have to delete the references to to tose images via ftp. All color or all gray scale in /wp-content/uploads/2013/03/ or whatever month they were uploaded as the last dir entry in the url does the trick to turn them on or off on way or the other, have not found a way to keep the cool gray effect then mouse to color. Luckily the client likes the all color option. Thank you for taking the time to log in and look at. I think it will be a goo future thread.

Hi,

I got multiple emails with credentials from different people and all without references to any forum post.

Yours is Stell*** I guess?

First thing tho. Do not use Theme Options > Portfolio to designate the portfolio page. Only use the options within the dynamic template.

Looking at water treatment.

I notice that all the images that have no grey-scale , all have this in the IMG html tag.

alt = "[ File # csp11222659, License # 2437815 ]

(c) Can Stock Photo Inc-greyscale. / nevodka"

Please compress all jpg images using http://jpeg-optimizer.com/ because your pool cleaner image is almost 800k when after compression without loss in quality its 78k

---
I added a new image of water cleaner, from the portfolio item page. And as you can see, everything works correctly.

i also edited personal care 2. in portfolio-item remove image. add image. select from gallery. remove that ALT description i pasted above. save. greyscale is now showing.

Thanks,

Hi Don,

The only other thing I can think of is to completely delete that item and re-create it. First using a different picture to verify the greyscale works and then second uploading the same image again (with a different file name).

The very last resort would be re-opening the file in an image editor and saving it under a new name as jpeg and see if when you upload it once again it works then.

Regards,

Hi,

Perhaps your install was buggy and you should re-install WordPress and the theme (while updating the theme first to latest version).

You can use css to turn of the effects on a per-page basis so you can still have the effect on one page and not have it on a different page. To do that check the <body> html tag of the page in question to see what css classes are specific to that particular page and add it to the front of whatever css you are using to remove the overlay.

#top.css-class-specific-to-page .your-current-class-that-you-are-using { }

Thanks,

Sorry if this is already posted. when I searched it appears that most people have a problem with the grayscale effect not working, mine is the opposite. In the portfolio editor options if I change the portfolio image hover effects to none instead fo the default grayscale. The grayscale hover effects still work. I can disable it in the css file but was just wondering why the feature options doesn't take care of this. as I may want it for 4 columns but not 2 columns for example. I have been testing on a mac with safari and chrome.

Hi,

My computer crashed at some point yesterday so no video.

Best thing I can recommend is to browse websites and without looking at the design focus on the type of content provided and ask yourself if it makes sense to do the same. A News section is rough since most people's lives are not newsworthy or they prefer not to share things with the world. All that needs to be done since you are looking to get a name in industry (i guess) is to provide your views on events, trends, etc so if someone hits the keywords and lands on your site and skims it, they will get the idea you are interested in the topic or see eye to eye on whatever, and thus are someone they need for a project or what not.

Cheers,

Hi,

I made a video showing you how to do things on the site that is why you will see some things moved around. I went to your link and was auto logged in. Please dont forget to delete the temp account you've made. Either your server or my laptop is very slow so it turned into a 20 min video, and uploading in the background. I will add a link to it here once its updated so you can get the idea of what your workflow should be like.

1) you need to add categories to each of your portfolio items
2) you need to use dynamic templates as i show in video

Hi,

You have the portfolio incorrectly setup most likely.

1) create 2+ portfolio categories
2) create portfolio items
3) create dynamic template with portfolio added to the template. Make sure the template has the correct settings. http://www.clipular.com/c?2220302=Nws6zxcPfEz7WMZTC1Ba0_mlCKo
4) create a portfolio page and add the portfolio dynamic tempalte to that page. http://www.clipular.com/c?2230134=8hatBn-bpadwZQZXl75ZlEXY5uw (add new page, bottom right side is where template is added to page)
5) do not use the Coherence > Theme Options > Portfolio , instead use steps 1-4.

If you can't get it working please send me a temp admin account login/pw to usjahm (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks,

Hi,

I think the problem with the two images is the aspect ratio. Please remove the images from the portfolio item pages, then delete the images in Media. Try uploading a second time to see if the problem went away. If it did not, then you will need to slightly alter the image itself prior to uploading, by changing its aspect ratio (cut a pixel or two from its height or width). You can use any photo editing software (Photoshop) for that, and please re-upload the images.

Thanks,

Hey!

It seems like WordPress didn't generate a greyscale version of the image. Did you try to reupload the image? WP will generate all required thumbnails during the upload process (including the greyscale image).

Regards,
Peter

Hi,

The grayscale looks great thank you so much. The only thing is that the grayscale thumbnail is slightly smaller than the color one on two of the pictures ("Compliment" and "Edmonton")?
I will only use .jpg and .png extensions from now on.

Thanks so much,
Maria

I can not get the water treatment portfolio item to go grayscale? Also, the dropdown option for grayscale is not showing on the backend. I walked through the video. Very strange because the rest of the items went grayscale just fine for me. ANy help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Taking a look now. Will post a continuation of this post shortly. Ok your portfolio is working. I updated wordpress.I changed your setting so that 1st portfolio item image only shows as a thumbnail but once you click the thumbnail and are taken to the item page, the portfolio thumbnail image will not be included in the portfolio item page. This way you have it exclusively for the thumbnail.

Please try using .jpg and .png extensions for image files. in order to avoid compatibility issues with tif. I changed your logo tif to a transparent png. You should do the same with the remainder of tif files .

Thanks,

Nick
