Perfect! Thank you Dude.

In case anyone is reading this and has a similar error: the themeforest download did not have all of the files I needed to make the download. In particular it was missing template.php so check if you have this file (as well as style.css) before uploading the file).

Regards,

Hi Dude,

Thanks for helping as well.

I'm sorry if it was not coming out clearly in my first post, but that's the first thing I've tried (followed by uploading the correct zipped folder to Wordpress). When I do that it gives me the error of "Template is Missing" even though I'm sure I've uploaded all of the files.

I make sure to remove all of the newscast files after every failed attempt so that's not the problem either. It's something weirder and more unusual.

Regards,

Please try to use a ftp client like filezilla to install the files. First unzip the newscast folder. Then connect to your server and navigate to wp-content/themes. Then upload the (unzipped) Newscast folder into the themes folder.

Hi Devin,

That was the first thing I tried. When I upload the files to the theme folder on my server then I get the "template is missing" error and I can't activate the theme. I checked to make sure all of the files were uploaded and they were. It's just not allowing me to activate.

Again, sorry for being difficult. Thank you for taking your time to help.

Hi Devin,

Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate the help. Hope you had a good holiday break.

I've tried reinstalling from themeforest, but that didn't change much.

The error with installing the zip folder occurs before I try to activate it. During the install it reads that the install failed and none of the files end up going through. (I tried checking on the FTP client if any files were there and it was empty). Because of this I can't try the technique of just re-uploading the css file.

If you'd like to email me separately at elikariv@gmail.com I can give you information to the site if that would make this easier.

Thanks again for your time, sorry to cause trouble - I really wish I could solve it myself.

Hi CrossedClouds,

The package that you download from Themeforest should be the initial containing zip file. First you need to unzip this package so that you see a regular folder with the following inside:
documentation
Licence
newscast.zip
psd.zip
version.rtf

Since it sounds like you've already tried just uploading the newscast.zip file there, it could be that your initial download from Themeforest is corrupted and re-downloading the whole package again may help. So give that a try first, then get to this same step again.

Delete any incorrect Newscast theme folders from your wordpress installation before moving on.

Now, through wordpress select the newscast.zip folder for upload/installation. Make sure there are no errors and that it all installs correctly.

When you go to activate it, if it gives you the same error about not having a proper style.css file, log in to your site via ftp. Navigate to the themes folder and then open up the Newscast theme folder.

Back on your desktop, unzip the newscast.zip file file that you uploaded already. Make sure that you just have the newscast folder and that you aren't viewing the inside via explorer (ie the file should NOT be zipped).

Inside that folder, you can select the style.css file and put it into the open newscast theme folder on your server to replace the style.css that isn't working.

Then try re-activating the theme again.

Regards,

Devin

Hey Kriesi and other readers,

Happy Holidays. Sorry to ask a question on new years, trying to take care of a client ASAP.

My Problem:

I purchased the newscast theme and am having extreme difficulties installing it to my wordpress site. I've installed themeforest themes into quite a few sites and I've tried every method I know how.

I've tried the 2 main methods of uploading and many variations of them.

1) Going through Wordpress upload and uploading the zip folder (both the correct zip folder titled newscast.zip and the overall folder which obviously wasn't going to work). When I do this I get the error "The package could not be installed. The style.css stylesheet doesn't contain a valid theme header."

2) Using an FTP to manually upload the files to the server under wp-content/themes (I've tried uploading the newscast folder as well as the MAC OSx and other folders that I knew wouldn't work, but I was just trying random things). With these I either get the error "template is missing or style sheet is missing"

Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions? The site is uniqulture.com and I would be more than happy to give you any info you need to test things yourself.

Really want to take care of this as quickly as possible.

Thank you so much and happy holidays.

Hey,
1) You can set up the menus via admin panel (Appearance > Menus). Once your there, simply create 2 menus and call the first one "First" and the other menu "Second".
Then, whatever items you add to the first menu, shows up on the first menu bar on the site, and the items on the menu called Second, show in the second menu bar. A tutorial can be found here: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/i-can%e2%80%99t-create-a-custom-menu-the-menu-behaves-weird

2) The slider shows featured images of posts. Click on "Upload" => Pick image => Use as featured image" on the post/page editor page. You need to set featured image for all posts which will display in the slider. You can change the slider category in the wp admin panel ( Newscast Options > Mainpage Options).

3) You can add your widget (Appearance > Widgets) into the predefined widget areas (Display Everywhere, etc.)

Hi there,

I am having major difficulties setting up this theme on my wordpress site. I can't seem to get the slider to work, the dropdown on the top menu doesn't work, and the sidebar widgets don't show. I have followed the documentation and I am still unclear on what to do. The documentation still seems quite limited and is not addressing that problems that I am having. I was hoping that I could get my website up and running fairly quickly and now am left hanging.

Could someone please help me to get this theme up and running or unfortunately I will have to ask for a refund.

Thank you!

Hey,
please unzip the package you got from themeforest.net ONE time. You should get a folder which contains PSDs, Docs and another zip file (which is called cubit.zip or theme.zip (I don't know it exactly because I don't have the retail themeforest files but get them directly from Kriesi). However this zip file (cubit.zip, theme.zp, etc.) is the right file. Go to your wordpress admin panel and navigate to Appearance > Themes. Then select the cubit.zip file, upload & install it. That's it.
