Hi,

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if there is a thumbnail size with the dimension of 55x55px. What do you mean "Latest Posts"? Can you give us a link to the page?

You can change the thumbnails size on functions.php

$avia_config['imgSize']['widget'] 			 	= array('width'=>36,  'height'=>36);						// small preview pics eg sidebar news
$avia_config['imgSize']['entry_with_sidebar'] 	= array('width'=>710, 'height'=>270);		                 // big images for blog and page entries
$avia_config['imgSize']['entry_without_sidebar']= array('width'=>1030, 'height'=>360 );						// images for fullsize pages and fullsize slider
$avia_config['imgSize']['square'] 		 	    = array('width'=>180, 'height'=>180);		                 // small image for blogs

$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio'] 		 	= array('width'=>495, 'height'=>400 );						// images for portfolio entries (2,3 column)

Hi,

Is there an easy way to increase the thumbnails in the "Latest posts" alternative in the content builder?
Now they are 55x55 pixels, but I would like them to be around 100x100.

Thanks!

One other thing I forgot about. You have to add the following code to the functions.php file to make use of WordPress thumbnail images even though you're actually using the full size image here.

/* Activate native WordPress Post Thumbnails */

if ( function_exists( 'add_theme_support' ) ) {
  add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );
}

Thanks. You're absolutely right. I knew it would turn out to be something stupid. I was trying to get_posts with $args before it was even defined. Not only that, but I had residual code left over from my original version when I was just pulling one post at a time--hence the offset counter. Here's the now working version that doesn't require a separate plugin to get the right category.

<?php

Well, crud. I've already hit a snag with this code. It should limit the posts pulled to category number 8. Instead, it's pulling the latest three posts from any category. I'm having to use the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin to keep the posts in other categories off the main page. Does anyone have any idea why it's not filtering by category properly?

BroadScope is great for displaying images beautifully in that huge slideshow it does. Unfortunately, at least in my case, the images have to be manually set on every page and post even if your using that page as the homepage. I post a month's worth of program highlights near the beginning of each month as posts with the category "Highlights." I need a specific image from each of those upcoming program highlights to appear in the main slider on the homepage three at a time, link to the post permalink, and then drop off the homepage as the time for each program comes up. I don't want to have to go in every day or two and manually change those images and captions. I therefore schedule the publication of each post in that category for the specific time that the third post back should disappear. (Did that make any sense?)

The problem then is how to get the title, link, excerpt, and a specific image from the latest post in a specific category to appear in the big slider on the homepage that's only designed to hold images and text manually entered into it through the dashboard. (It seems like that would make a great option to add to the Avia framework.)

Anyway, here's the code I added to the header.php file of the BroadScope theme. It replaces everything below "".

<?php
if (is_home('')) :
echo "

";
global $post;
$offset_counter = 0;
$container_counter = 1;
$myposts = get_posts( $args );
foreach( $myposts as $post ) :	setup_postdata($post);
$args = array( 'numberposts' => 3, 'offset' => $offset_counter, 'category' => 8 );
$postid = get_the_ID();
$bg_color_key = 'newslide_bg_color';
$slide_back_color = get_post_meta($postid, $bg_color_key, true);
echo "
";

echo "'>";
echo the_post_thumbnail('full');
echo "

<a href='";

echo "

";
$offset_counter = $offset_counter + 1;
$container_counter = $container_counter + 1;
if ($container_counter > 3) break;
endforeach;
echo "

";
else :
echo "
";
echo "
";
echo avia_inc_display_featured();
echo "
";
echo "
";
endif;
?>

I know it's kind of cobbled together quickly, but it displays the latest post stuff on the homepage large slider where I need it without affecting the sliders I use on the other posts and pages, and it still looks like the normal large slider. It does, however, require two additional steps on the individual posts as I put them in through the dashboard:

Use the standard WordPress Featured Image option (You may have to make sure "Featured Image" is enabled in the screen options on the top.) to choose an image from your media library to use for that post in the slider on the homepage. This is separate from the Avia Featured Image options.

Use the Custom Field option (You may have to make sure "Custom Fields" is enabled in the screen options on the top.) to set a custom field called "newslide_bg_color" (without the quotes) and enter the background color you want for that slide in full hex format with the pound/number symbol (ie., #FFFFFF) in the value field.

Hope this helps someone.

Hey,

The order of pages is defined by the order in which they are called in the WP_Query - in Dude's latest example code above the posts called are: 50,51,52,53,54

So changing the order to: 54,50,51,52,53 would load the page with the ID of 54 1st.

Hello,
the solution is working for me, except one thing: I cannot rearrange the order of the pages in the slider. Whatever I do, the page created the last time (nr 42) is at the first place and the oldest one (nr 10) is the last one in the slider. How can I rearrange this order? Temporary address: http://fenyves-taborhu.web-server.hu/
Thanks a lot!
Katalin

Login and go to the page you want to add to the slider. Click on "Edit Page" in the top wordpress admin bar. You'll see that the url of the page editor contains a number (like http://localhost/wp-admin/post.php?post=50&action=edit ) - i.e. this page has the id 50.

Thank you that worked! I would recommend you make a sticky of this or set up a clear post, I have seen a lot of people that have bought the theme looking for this option.

Also if you could consider in the next update of the template adding this option to the dashboard. Providing boxes to enter the posts and or pages by number so editing the code is not required. You could have a selection of "the last X (3-7) posts" or "enter your post or page number.

Thank you for the help my people here will be very happy today.

Try following:

$additional_loop = new WP_Query(array('post_type' => 'page','posts_per_page' => 5, 'post__in' => array(50,51,52,53,54)));

That made progress, however it results in only three page sliders showing. Even though five have been entered. For example.

$additional_loop =  new WP_Query(array('post_type' => 'page', 'post__in' => array(50,51,52,53,54)));

With this setting only 51, 52, 53 show. The configuration menu in "mainpage options" is set to "5" sliders. Setting it to "7" sliders, we still only get 3.

I have tried this as outlined a few times. The site is working fine with calling the last 5 published posts.

Step 1 remove;

$additional_loop = new WP_Query("cat=".$k_option['mainpage']['feature_cats_final']."&posts_per_page=".$k_option['mainpage']['feature_count']);

from index.php

Step 2 replace with;

$additional_loop = new WP_Query('page_id=39,57,73,276,44');

In my case those are the pages I would like to use in the slider, for now, we will change them from time to time.

What happens is the first featured image comes up, no other images come up. I am going to leave this up so you can take a look. http://VisitLondonderry.com

Hey,
1)login in and go to the page you want to add to the slider. Click on "Edit Page" in the top wordpress admin bar. You'll see that the url of the page editor contains a number (like http://localhost/wp-admin/post.php?post=50&action=edit ) - i.e. this page has the id 50. Note the id and then insert them seperated with commas.

$additional_loop =  new WP_Query(array('post_type' => 'page', 'post__in' => array(37,50)));

2) You inserted the image directly into your post too. You have 2 options:

a) Remove the second image by deleting it from the post content

b) Remove the featured image from the post content - open up single.php and delete:

<?php
						if($preview_image)
						{
						echo '
';
						echo $preview_image;
						echo '
';

Thank you James,

First let me say, this is above and beyond and was not expected. The theme was a good price, your support is priceless.

So I made a post called "This Week" (our intent is to promote one or two community activities each week) That is now a "posts page" (regardless of what I put in the text box, it displays posts that works fine for us)

When I preview this page I see a "page" with all the posts on it. No slider, and no text displayed if added, this is good.

Then in the WP Settings/Reading Settings I select for Front page displays, "A static page" for the front page, I select "test home" for the posts page I select "This Week"

When viewing the site, the front page has no slider, the new "This Week" page, a page assigned the "Blog" template, shows the slider. The intent was to get the slider on the static, home page.

How do I do that?

Also we have been working on a alternative plan, we would rather not use it but I would like to note it here for others if they needed it. The intent was to have a static front page with the incredible slider built into Newscast at the top. The posts would be on a side page. We added the following to the index.php file located in the Newscast theme folder.

After;
`
	// ############################# FULL SIZED POSTS #############################
if ($fullsized > 0) :

		$preview_image = kriesi_post_thumb($post->ID, array('size'=> array('M'),
'display_link' => '_prev_image_link',
'linkurl' => array ('L','_preview_big'),
'wh' => $k_option['custom']['imgSize']['M']
));

		?>

add

<?php if (is_home()) { ?>

Your title here

your text graphics and calls to other items here. HTML is ok, css style is ok to use, cgi scripts, and java work too.

<?php } ?>

Then set the post format 1 or 2 across in Newscast options, and number of posts in WP read options. They will be under your fixed text and graphics. Again not the way we wanted to do it but it may help someone else.
