Yes, if the image was just added in by pasting it in it wouldn't show attachment. In that case, you'll just have to go through your images manually.

Only one bad thing of it, if picture pasted not to normal gallery, but pasted exactly to publication's body, library can't see it like attachment. And occasionally, i can delete (as i did it one time) picture what i need in publication body..

Hi rudolfkrajewski,

When you look at your media library you should see a column titled "Uploaded to". If an image isn't attached to post/page or product then it will show as Unattached there.

i'd like to be able to associate gallery images in the media library on upload - so, for instance, instead of the association/attachment reading 'avia_smart-gallery-of-post-500a358f53a7f', it's attached to the page name. i realize i can add title metadata one by one, but i mean a bulk upload attachment metadata option. or editing after upload option (i tried changing 'avia_smart-gallery-of-post-500a358f53a7f' to the page name in MG but it detached all the images.

and/or, probably more importantly for image management, i have no access to the media library on gallery upload, only 'Add media files from your computer' where/how do i change this setting?

thanks in advance,

Hey Guys! I am still investigating the issue. Not exactly sure why images would vanish after upload, but due to the code base one thing that might be crucial is to save the post first, before uploading the images.

The problem with the need to upload an image twice if you want to use it in multiple galleries is unfortunately a limitation by wordpress itself. The theme uses a slightly modified version of the wordpress gallery.

Wordpress default behavior is like this:
Whenever you upload a picture, it is attached to a post. if you upload multiple pictures they all get attached to the same post, and you can then display them as a gallery by using the [gallery] shortcode. if you would want to use the same image in another gallery you need to upload it to another post.

Since I used the wordpress gallery as a starting point for the flashlight gallery it behaves the same way. I have tried to find a way around this, but quite frankly I would need to recode a totally new version of the gallery feature to circumvent that problem.

That would mean breaking all current installations once they update, which is not an option in my mind.
The second problem is: I already have tested adavend self build galleries in my follow up themes, but the backend does not play well with large amounts of images which to my mind is crucial in a theme like flashlight.

You see we got a little bit of a problem here and I am not quite sure how to solve that at the moment. Once I have a solution I will of course apply it but for now you are unfortunately stuck with the limitations of wordpress (and therefore the limitations of flashlight) :/

Aw christ, is that what's happening? That might explain some the difficulties I've been having. And I was just about to rip my whole wordpress installation out, to start from scratch. If you're semi-new to wordpress, like me, it can be a huge pain trying to figure out what is wrong: if it's the file permissions on the server, something wonky with your installation, or something in the theme... Maybe I'll just calm down for a bit, practice patience.

I'm with Richard Olpir (see above) on this one. I have imported all my images from my existing website over to my Flashlight development site only to find that I can't use them and I'm having to reupload every single one often to multiple areas (shop, portfolio items, background images etc, etc) As my website exists to display my paintings and to sell them, this seems like a huge flaw. If I had known this to be the case, I most certainly would NOT have bought the Flashlight theme. Mightily frustrated here!

Fotomaster,

I never ran into any issues with the full screen slideshow so I can't comment as to why you might be having issues. As long as I uploaded straight from my machine, it "just worked". I'm using 3.2.1 of Wordpress, BTW. Also, as to this question:

"BTW, the uploading of images into portfolio items is rather off the wall, really. If I understand all right, I need upload the same images every times as new, when I need create a few portfolio items with the same set of images. Is that true? Or I do something wrong?"

...this is exactly at the heart of this post. Every gallery is treated as brand new and, right now, cannot be updated unless you re-upload every image - even if they're the exact same images you loaded into the media library some time earlier. This is nearly a dealbreaker for usage of this theme for serious photoblogging, so I hope Dude and/or Kriesi can get it fixed.

- Blaise

Hi!
Dear Blaise, please, say me, what the version of WP you use for your site http://thecalandros.net/ ? Is it the latest 3.3.1.? I ask about, because your full-screen slide-show works perfectly! http://thecalandros.net/album-items/2011-christmas-album/ - terrific! Unfortunately, I cannot say that about of mine http://www.fotoetude.com/portfolio-item/testing_wedding_fullscreen/. You published 97 pcs of wonderful pictures, and all of them played well in my browsers. I published 165 for test reason, but my full-screen slide-show works badly (stops playing after 120 photos in IE, and very loads the CPU/memory of system). I try to see - what is the secret of this?

Thanks!

Absolutely second this.

Every other theme I've used uses the WP media library/galleries as source. Seems really odd for a modern WP theme not to use it given how good the built in support is.

Admins,

I have noticed that when I upload pictures to a portfolio via Flashlight's built in uploader from my computer and the pictures are many and large in size, in takes a while to upload (sometimes hours). Usually I will go and do something else and allow the uploads to proceed on their own. If I'm not there to save shortly after they finish uploading (letting Wordpress automatically save the portfolio draft), when I come back to finish the portfolio later, the images have disappeared from the portfolio itself, but they are in the Wordpress Media Library. Then, I try and go back into the draft portfolio and re-add the images, when I click the green 'Upload' button, I only have the option to add new items from my computer. It does not allow me to select images already in the Media Library.

Is there any way to enable the ability to add images to a portfolio (or post or page) gallery in Flashlight by simply selecting them from the media library instead of having to always upload them?

TIA,

Blaise

I think maybe the OP is referring to the fact that Flashlight requires it's own uploader and doesn't support the default WP media library. This seems like a real oversight as every other theme I've used from TF has supported it and it's a standard feature of wordpress. Seems crazy to have a separate uploader when the built in one is standard.

I must admit I was rather surprised to see this having just purchased the theme to replace one on my existing site I was pretty disappointed to find that I'm going to lose all my previously uploaded galleries and will have to upload them again to use for slideshows etc.

That's going to be very time consuming so now I'm wondering if I should maybe just ditch Flashlight and go back to my original theme.

Hey,
use a ftp software (or cpanel) to change the upload folder permission(s). Navigate to httpdocs/wp-content/uploads and set the folder permission (including the sub folders) to 777.

I'm receiving the following error when I try to add an image to a page:

“01_Header.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory C:\Inetpub\vhosts\2-femmes.net\httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2011/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I found another thread that mentioned uninstalling the Theme and WP and starting over...did that and still I get the error. HELP!!!! I have a deadline to meet.

I just went through that Link and followed the instructions for how to change the WP code for crop. IT was pretty easy to do. Also since WP crops the image as it gets uploaded and then not again so you could change this code so that each crop is diffrent Or rest it back to the normal code when you are done.

I found this article but I am not sure if I like the sound of changing the WP code...
http://shailan.com/how-to-change-post-thumbnail-crop-position-in-wordpress/
I don't understand why the edit image / crop facility within wordpress doesn't work ??

Thanks
Karen
