Hi,

Don't worry - think I found the solution. Using a Custom Link with a URL of # as the parent menu item seems to work...

sorry - should have searched for the answer myself before pasting this on the forum....

Hi,

This is probably not really a flashlight question and probably a wordpress question but...

I am creating a series of nested menu items - i.e. with a hierarchy. I am wondering if it is possible for a root menu item (which other menu items 'branch off') not to be clickable, so I don't have to worry about putting any content on its page.

Regards,

Hi mjpeter,

Yes, if you are already in Appearance > Menus. On the upper right side of your screen, you can see Screen Options, click it and check Link Target. Now, expand your menu item(Tickets) and you should see a checkbox which says Open link in new window/tab, just check this. Hope this helps. :)

Hi, my website is http://hoyas.stubstory.com/ and I want to know if I can take the menu items and have them link to a url BUT open in a new window. for example - see the 2nd "Tickets" link in the menu above the slider. If you click it you go to http://www.guhoyas.com/tickets/gu-tickets.html but I don't want people to leave the page. Can we have the link open to the desired url in a new window?

Hi,

You can target the specific menu by naming them.

<nav><?php wp_nav_menu(array('menu' => 'Main Nav Menu')); ?></nav>

You can change "Main Nav Menu" to something else. Add a new set of menu then use that name on your Appearance > Menus.

Please see this reference for further support. http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_nav_menu

Hi mariseliass,

1. Add this simple line to your functions.php file:

if( function_exists('register_nav_menus')) {
 register_nav_menus( array('main_nav' => 'Main Navigation Menu' ) );
}

You can place this at the bottom of functions.php

2. Add this code in your header.php:

<nav><?php wp_nav_menu(array('menu' => 'Main Nav Menu')); ?></nav>

place this code inside your header div or where you want it to be placed.

3. Then go to Appearance > Menus. Create a menu and name it "Main Nav Menu" (the same with name in #2). After creating the menu, Add some links to the menu.

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

Hi,

How do I enable wordpress menus? I have come to the point where I need to add a main menu item which links to a subdomain hosted externally from wordpress. An alternative way would do but enabling menus would just make life easier.
Thanks!

Hey 9thwave,

You are actually correct that the best way to remove the sub-menu is with a display: none. The sub-menu is added in with relevant shop menu items as a way to conveniently offer those items when they are needed (ie on the shop pages only). You can add your own menu here through the Menus manager or remove it from display with css.

Regards,

Hi,

I am trying to suss the shop area. On the main shop page the menu items are displaying and wonder how i can remove them?
I can see this is the <div class="sub-menu"> from the woocommerce stylesheet so i could add display:none; but this seems rather brutal and i'm assuming there is another method to not displaying all menu items at the top of this page.
Curiously in your Flashlight demo <sub-menu> only the items pertinent to the 'shop' display like login, checkout etc!!!!

Thanks

I wasn't able to reproduce the error on my end. Please download install the latest version (1.2.1) and see if that fixes it right away.

If you are still getting the error, disable any plugins that you have running. If this fixes the issues, re-enable each plugin one by one to see if the issue is plugin related.

If you are still getting the menu error we'll take another look and see if we can get it sorted out.

Did you solve your problem with the desription text?

2) Just create 2 menus - you shouldn't encounter any further problems. This is a theme bug some people experience, altough I didn't notice it on my test server.

If you want to remove this "only one menu supported" message you can do this with a little modification. Open

newscast/framework/helper_functions/nav_menu.php

and replacing this code

add_action( 'init', 'register_my_menu' );
function register_my_menu() {
	register_nav_menu( 'theme-menu', __( 'Theme Menu' ) );
}

with:

add_action( 'init', 'register_my_menu_page' );
function register_my_menu_page() {
register_nav_menu( 'theme-menu_page', __( 'Page Navigation' ) );
}
add_action( 'init', 'register_my_menu_cat' );
function register_my_menu_cat() {
register_nav_menu( 'theme-menu_cat', __( 'Category Navigation' ) );
}

Still a problem though. It says that my theme supports only one menu, but on the demo I see two. On the demo, it looks like the upper H-menu is pages, and the lower H-menu is categories. That's what I want to do. How can I do that if the theme only supports one menu?

Thanks,

The first screenshot shows how to activate the description field. Everything is described in the thread above. If you can't find these options please send me an email with your login data and I will do this for you.

OK, I found it! The little pull-down, top right. Then I had to refresh.

Thanks.

Thanks for that thread, Dude, BUT that stuff is NOT THERE. When I hit the down arrow (and I've used that feature many times) I see a field for "title attribute" but not for "description". And the first screen shot - that's supposed to look like my Edit Menu page...doesn't. All that stuff on the upper left side, titled "Show on screen" is not there in my installation.

This is a fresh WP installation and the only theme installed other than twenty ten.

Thanks for your fast response!

There's already been a thread about this (http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/menu-problem#post-2991).

OP asked about all the extra text showing up under the page name in the horizontal menu.

I set up my menu here: Appearance>Menus.

cwrigley said:
"To fix your menus; go to the Menu tab in WP-admin, expand the menu item in question and edit the Description field. If you entered no description WP adds the text contents of your page. Remove it or add what you want."

BUT, I do NOT see a "description field" on the Edit Menu page, and I don't see a "description field" on the Page Edit page, so does anybody know where the "description field" is? I can't get rid of that tall vertical bar of text under the (page) menu item.

Thanks,
Rosemary
