Its a DIY plugin (just a function really) and I'm not sure what support it will have with 3.5.1 but give it a try: https://gist.github.com/bueltge/2930032

Hi Devin,

Can you share the link for this plugin, this is exactly what I need.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the video, but I think the macro record won't work since I don't use image in all of my posts. Devin's solution using plugin could be the solution in this case

Hi Andreano,

Actually, unless you want to wait for something one day to be built or hire someone to build a custom importer, there is one way to do this relatively painlessly and would require a 39$ purchase , but I think the app is given with a 30 day free demo.

http://www.jitbit.com/macro-recorder/

You would need to use a macro recorder. You would open a browser window on right side of screen where new website shows, and on left side of screen where the old site shows. Then you would record yourself copying and pasting everything from old into new, including images, at the end you would return to old and delete the post you just moved, and stop the recorder.

Then you put the recorder to play in a loop, and it will repeat all the copying and pasting that you did by itself, you can leave and let it endless copy all the 700 posts. It will probably take a full day or more, but since you do not have to do it yourself, but only once to make the initial recording, I think that is not a bad approach.

The one of the two minor difficulties is that the macro recorder has no way of being able to tell which category checkboxes are checked as it has no bionic eyes, so solution would involve adding a line of code to the edit post/page/portfolio item page so that the categories which are normally checked, are instead displayed in a text box, each separated by commas, so then its just cut and paste

The second problem is that if some of your posts have 2 images and others have a different number, then there will be problem since macro recorder just repeats your initial actions . Though I also have an idea. You can record 3 mini macros , one mini macro for posts with one featured image, another for posts with two images and yet another for three images on a page, and then to add and display an aditional field which would contain a number representing the total number of featured images contained within the post. The macro recorder is able to run a basic if/then/else then statement and based on the number in the field it would execute one of the mini macros. Solved 100%.

I made a video of me doing this and its working! wow. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8hqGBMSfHtKcW9LLW1XZ3hyQVE/edit?usp=sharing ... my speaker went crazy so i am sorry about the background hissing.

Thanks,

Hi andreano,

No, not that I know of. I know there are some functions out there that will automatically set a featured image based on the first image in a post (plugins too) but if it isn't *in* the post editor already then that wouldn't help you.

I'll take the rest of the support crew to see if anyone has any ideas.

I'm starting the process to migrate from Broadscope to Enfold theme.

Broadscope doesn't use the standard featured image from Wordpress and Enfold does.

I have hundreds of posts, which I used the standard Broadscope to add the featured images on each post.

Any wizard or script that convert all this images to the default Wordpress featured images??

Update manually each post won't be a good idea.

Yes, Kriesi uses the code you posted above to generate the title. It will start with your blog name and on the front/home page it will display the blog description after the title. On other pages it will display the post/page title. If you want to have more control install a plugin like http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/ and replace:

... another question ...
Here, migration is well and referenced to google homepage of the new site tonight.

He suggested the title of the site, I put the title of the site in wordpress.
And what I put in the description page and not what I set solgan in wordpress.

If I want it to be the title provided in the home page that is displayed by google, I do not put anything in the site title under wordpress?

Is that this is how you set up your header.php:

<!-- page title, displayed in your browser bar -->
<title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?> | <?php is_home() ? bloginfo('description') : wp_title(''); ?></title>

I need to migrate my blog to a new domain.

UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = replace(option_value, ‘http://www.mon-ancien-blog.com’, ‘http://www.mon-nouveau-blog.com’) WHERE option_name = ‘home’ OR option_name = ‘siteurl’;

UPDATE wp_posts SET guid = replace(guid, ‘http://www.mon-ancien-blog.com’, ‘http://www.mon-nouveau-blog.com ‘);

UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content = replace(post_content, ‘http://www.ancien-site.com’, ‘http://www.nouveau-site.com’);

There should be a fourth request to make to update as Angular.

Hi Gil,

Sorry your thread got kind of left out there in the cold for so long! I can't speak for Chris, but it has always been my experience to not trust the way WordPress moves between servers. As an aside, I tend to do rough builds on my local server and then push them to my live server for the final content and fixes (store items, css tweaks etc) for this very reason.

As for a final answer, without more details or working with your files directly I'm not sure what else we could offer.

Hi Chris,

Not having any joy with the free plugins you suggest, and I am reluctant to purchase the other option when it should be a fairly straightforward thing to move my site between servers. Are you able to help me out by telling me where/how the one page site settings are stored within your theme? I think I can see them in the options table of the DB, but for some reason these along don't seem to be enough to recreate my local settings on the staging server.

Thanks Chris,

I'll check out those plugins and see how I go. I'm still puzzled as to why exporting and re-importing the database doesn't work as it seems to be pretty seamless when I use the process described above for other WP sites and themes. But if one of the plugins does the trick then I'm not to worried about the 'why'!

I'll give them a go and report back.

Hey,

we know that some servers cause problems when you try to move the theme settings/dynamic template data. We couldn't reproduce the problem yet but we investigate it. You can reset the theme settings (but you need to configure the all options/dynamic templates again) or you can try plugins like: http://pluginbuddy.com/purchase/backupbuddy/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/backupwordpress/ - users reported that these plugins restore the database without problems.

I just purchased an installed Coalition.

My standard development process is to build on my local maching, and periodically update a remote staging server. To update the remote server, I use the following steps:

- copy all wordpress files to remote webroot
- export local dev database to sql file
- search/replace exported sql to convert all hardwired locel dev urls into urls which match the staging (or production) server
- import modified sql file into database on remote server

This process has always worked for me in the past. When I do this with Coalition, none of my settings in the one page section are refelected on the staging server. My content (pages, portfolio, images, etc) are all there, but the navigation and site structure defined in the one page area simply do not transfer.

I have looked in the remote database and it seems like the content is there, but I just can't switch it on, for want of a better description. I must be missing something obvious, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong given that the entire wp directory and complete database are being transferred.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Gil

You can use this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/get-the-image/ to fetch images from various sources (i.e. post content). Instead of a hardcoded string you can then set the output as $preview_image.

Hi Dude, thanks for the snippet.

I haven't tested your alteration yet, just to be clear - it would help with the default image, but how is it going to populate the thumb on the index page from an image from the post?

Sample:

I create a post, add title, in the content text + 2 images. The first image to be visible instead of the post thumb (not to populate two fields).

I suppose I could write an action on addition or filter on preview, it would probably be easier?

Hey,
I'd replace following code in index.php:

$preview_image = kriesi_post_thumb($post->ID, array('size'=> array($kimg['shortcut'],$kimg['overwrite']),
 'display_link' => array('none'),
 'wh' => $k_option['custom']['imgSize'][$kimg['shortcut']]
 ));

with:

$preview_image = kriesi_post_thumb($post->ID, array('size'=> array($kimg['shortcut'],$kimg['overwrite']),
 'display_link' => array('none'),
 'wh' => $k_option['custom']['imgSize'][$kimg['shortcut']]
 ));

if(empty($preview_image)) { $preview_image = '<img src="http://your.image" alt="" title="" width="700" height="320" />'; }

and instead of http://your.image fill in your fallback image.

OK I figured the featured question as I could feature only a given category. But the question for listing blogs without the images inside stays active.

Any tips for that?

Hi there,

A client of mine owns a website with 1300 posts and we bought Newscast for him and installed as well. However his out layout had post thumbnails on the home page listed from the first image added in the post. Now, in order for him to work OK, he has to:

1) Create a post
2) Add images to a post
3) Add featured image for the slider to work
4) Add post thumbnail for the images to be visible on home page

Is there any easy way adding a post to populate header slider + index home page? Also this preloader when image is not available would rather be default image, it's annoying when it is animated gif or something.

Also, as this is an old blog, is there a way (script) to drive all the 1300 posts through that process and assign the images in the post as post thumbnails and featured posts?

Hey Dude,

Thanks for your answer. I understand and the multiple slideshows is really cool, but for thumbnail the standard wordpress function works perfect.

If I have to use the theme featured image, the theme needs at least to give me the option to say which image I want to use as thumbnail.

Hey,
as far as I know Broadscope doesn't use the standard post thumbnail function (featured image function). The reason is that there're some limitations (i.e. you can only attach one featured image without hacking the function or using plugins) and you can't create multiple slideshows with the standard featured image function. I'll ask Kriesi if he wrote an import script or something similiar.

Hello,

I started the migration from my old theme to the new related with this forum, and I have some serious problem.

1 - I have at least 3 years of posts, and most of them has a featured image defined. Any way to make my theme to use the featured image already defined in my posts?

2 - This situation is a bug in my opinion. I chose one of the images previously uploaded as featured image, when I save the post, the post doesn't has the featured image I choose.

If I upload a new image and define this image as featured image, it works, but I don't want to duplicate all of my images and manually.

3 - Another issue is related with the thumbnail, in my website it is 48x48. There are many situation where I wanna a thumbnail but I don't the same thumbnail as feature image. So, this template always assume the featured image will be used as thumbnail and it's not true.

How to solve this?

My site is http://www.andreanolanusse.com

Any help I will appreciate.

Thanks,
Andreano
