In this case I'd recommend to contact the WPML devs - it seems like WPML can't rewrite the permalink rules on your server and I don't know why it doesn't work. A handful of other users have a similar problem and it it's probably server related.

SAGA continues:
now it seems the same problem is with saving woocomerce settings. If I make some changes in woo commerce settings I get the 404 page not found error in all pages besides shop catalogue. Then I have to to the trick again with with WPML off and save permalinks and WPML on again then its cool. There is no problem with other setting saving beside the woocommerce.

It seems there is some kind a conflict between the WPML _ wp _ and woocommerce.

More..

the error

You can also remove the "permalink flush" function from the theme settings file. Then wp won't flush the permalinks every time you save the settings. Open up wp-content\themes\propulsion\framework\php\function-set-avia-backend.php and remove following line:

add_action('wp_loaded', 'avia_flush_rewrites');

You can try to set the file permissions of the htaccess to 0444 - then wordpress can't rewrite the rules. I'm not sure if this will fix the issue though because the slug rules rewrite rules are stored in the database.

then I have to to the foolwing:
deactivate WPML multilingual CMS plugin
go to wp permalink settings and save couple of times:

Hi,

Try this. When WPML installs, dont touch any settings and go to add new page. fill out all the fields and upload the image/slideshow, then click the two check boxes for duplicate, then save the page. at this point you should get right above save button another checkbox which asks if you want to duplicate (this time its alone) and when you check it a button appears bellow it.

When you click it nothing seems to happen. Click Update button and then switch to the 'second language'' (don't click the checkboxes on bottom that ask if you wish to copy, ignore, or translate) Now on translate page, you should have a complete duplicate of the original page including all the images etc and settings. On the translation page just click update when you enter it. On the very top right corner of translation page you will see WPML asking if you want to stop synchronizing the translation to the original and you click that button. Now go and test if pages are found.

If they are not, please install this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rewrite-rules-inspector/ .. It will create a link in the Tools menu > Rewrite Rules. Now the first time you enter that page (rewrite rule plugin), keep your eye on the total number , if any are red, location : other.

Now copy the url to a page on the site that is not loading (showing 404) and paste the url of that page into the text box on top of the rewrite rule page and see if there is a rule that matches. Flush the rules and compare how the new regeneration list looks with the original one the first time it loaded .. same number of rules, etc...

So the "Roots" page, under "About Us", is "http://cordvarty.dyndns.org/?page_id=46" and after permalinks is enabled, it is "http://cordvarty.dyndns.org/roots/". Once permalinks is enabled and you use the old url, it forwards you to the new one but the page still doesn't load.

Also, the blog links in the sidebar are not working, "The requested URL /uncategorized/post-5/ was not found on this server.". Hope this helps.

If this is outside of the range of support you offer, I understand. Any tips would help.

If not a theme issue, this may be a server related issue. Once I enable permalinks, using /%category%/%postname%/ or any other option, the menu links break. The home and external links continue to work. I've changed .htaccess permissions to 666, enabled mod_rewrite in apache, restarted the server, and tried creating custom.htaccess code. I know wordpress has access to the file because it makes changes to it. I'm running my own Ubuntu server for development.

Hi Heleen,

The best thing to do is read over the codex entry on them here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

They have some troubleshooting tips as well which I always recommend everyone try if they are having problems. Permalinks can be a bit of a pain sometimes and specifically if you are running on a windows sever by chance.

Because of the popularity of wordpress, typically you can also contact your actual hosting provider and explain the issues you are having and ask if they have any advice. There is a pretty good chance they have at least dealt with wordpress on their servers so they should be able to help.

Regards,

Devin

Hi There,
On my site right now (www.portmantoo.nl ) i am using the standard permalink settings. However this is ugly becasue my pages look like this : http://portmantoo.nl/?page_id=659 with numbers and all.. If i put my permalink settings to read with the name of the post instead, which is waht i want, i only get 404's if i look up the pages.
I have also tried adjusting the permalinks on every page as well , combined with adjusting the settings but can not seem to get it working,

I have been reading about permalinks and how to set this but it confuses me to much to find my solution. Can somebody please explain what i should do exactly to fix this issue? Thanks!

Heleen

Hi,

Awesome! In that case I am gonna close this support request but first, I want to thank you very much, for your invaluable contribution and especially your discovery of what has become known as the Flushie Rules Postulate without which life wouldn't be as breathtaking as it is. Thank you for your patience as well.

Cheers!

Hi,

I got it working.

1) There was an error on top 'If you want different slugs for shop pages, you need to disable the shop prefix for products in WooCommerce Settings'. That needed to be disabled , the checkbox in WooCommerce settings.

2) I took out your rewrite code in functions.php

3) For products as well as pages I made the following change at the very bottom of the page http://www.clipular.com/c?2215312=XdzHbrWzgvbzhBhf4co2ekwDupk

a) _avia_elements_avia_options_propulsion Translate
b) _avia_elements_theme_compatibility_mode Translate

Thanks,
