Ok, so I did everything you said to do. This is what happened... I got rid of the RSS feed, and where the RSS feed was I can now scroll over that and it will have a link to go to Pinterest. The only thing is that my my facebook and twitter icons are still the same round gray, and where I thought my Pinterest logo would be, it is completely blank. You can see at http://www.bpoyandjo.com/sneakpeek

This leads me to believe I did my icon replacement wrong. When I went to go find my new icons, I googled the icon images, found ones I liked, shrunk the size own to be VERY small, saved it as a .png file, and then replaced the image files with those... so I am supposing I did that wrong?

How would replace these correctly?

ALSO, am I able to fit four link/icons in that area? I wanted to add in Instagram too... how would I go about doing that if possible?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Hi Casey,

It is through your files located on your host site. You can access it via ftp.

I'm sorry if this is such a lame question, but when you tell me go into such things like "wp-content/themes/flashlight/images/skin-minimal/" is that through when I am in wordpress (if so, where do I find it?) or is it through my files in my host site? Or somewhere else that I am not even mentioning?

I have found kind of what you are mentioning but I'm not sure if it is exactly it, and I just want to double check before I go changing around everything!

Thank you for answering this basic question! :)

Hi Casey,

You can change the color by replacing the images found in wp-content/themes/flashlight/images/skin-minimal/. The following are the images you need to replace:

-icons-rounded-facebook.png
-icons-rounded-rss.png
-icons-rounded-twitter.png

As for the pinterest, kindly open wp-content/themes/flashlight/sidebar.php and find this code:

echo "
<a href='".avia_get_option('feedburner',get_bloginfo('rss2_url'))."'>RSS
";

replace it with:

echo '
Pinterest
';

replace http://your_pinterest_url with your pinterest account url.

Then add this code in your Quick CSS or custom.css:

.social_bookmarks .pinterest a {
background: transparent url(../images/icons-pinterest.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
}

Finally add your icon in wp-content/themes/flashlight/images/ make sure you name it icons-pinterest.png

Hope this helps.

HI there,

I have a few questions regarding the social media icons displayed on the Flashlight theme:

-Can I change the color? I would like the Facebook icon to be "Facebook" blue, and twitter to be "twitter" blue.

-Can I change the size? My site is heavily focused on social media and I would like them larger to stand out.

-Can I add Pinterest to the list of icons on the bottom? And possible remove the RSS feed icon? The removal of the RSS is still a maybe but I definitely need to add Pinterest.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If we have not dealt with them before its hard to say one way or another. Typically, you can try any plugin out and if it causes problems try another or try and figure out why. Some its easy, some its a lost cause but when we find some we like they typically get marked down and recommended over and over again.

Is the some code/plugin that would put a simple "Scroll To Top" 'button' in the lower right corner of a portfolio, so a user—especially on a mobile device—can be taken back to the top? (Similar to Pinterest). [Maybe it can appear when they go past the 'halfway' point of entire portfolio listing].

Hi Peas,

It looks like you don't have the address right for the icons. Make sure to upload them and that you have the correct location so that you can pull them up by navigating directly to them: http://www.spellitwithpeas.com/wp-content/themes/brightbox/images/skin1/pinterest24x24.png

If you can send me a temporary admin login I can re-arrange the icons for you. It'll be quicker than going back and forth here making sure none of the code or syntax gets messed up.

You can send the information to my email at DevinVinson (at) gmail.com. Make sure to include a link to this topic so that my spam filter doesn't grab it :)

Hi Dude,
Thank you so much for your help!
1) I can now click the icon and my facebook/twitter opens on a new window. Thank you.

2) I added/replaced all the text as you have indicated in the custom.css and the header.php and I think I'm halfway there, but may have done something wrong.
- I also added etsy to custom.css:
.social_bookmarks .etsy a {
background: url("../images/skin1/etsy.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
}

and to header.php

Etsy and Pinterest icons are not visible in the header now; however, if I hover over their space and click, I can get to the associated page.

This is what I have:

">RSS

Pinterest

Etsy

						<?php
if($twitter = avia_get_option('twitter')) echo "
Twitter";
if($facebook = avia_get_option('facebook')) echo "
Twitter";
?>

3) I would also like to rearrange the icons like this, if it's possible (I tried and ended up making a mess and had to revert to the original code):
RSS, facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Etsy

Cheers!

2) tbh I'm not sure if the iconsweet icon set: http://www.iconsweets2.com/ offers a Pinterest icon but anyway - upload your 24x24px icon (I called it pinterest.png in the sample code below) into the brightbox\images\shared folder and add following code to css/custom.css:

.social_bookmarks .pinterest a {
    background: url("../images/skin1/pinterest.png") no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
}

At least open up header.php and replace:

<a href="<?php avia_option('feedburner',get_bloginfo('rss2_url')); ?>">RSS

with:

<a href="<?php avia_option('feedburner',get_bloginfo('rss2_url')); ?>">RSS

Pinterest

and instead of http://myaccounturl.com insert your pinterest account url.

Hello,
1) I have the icons for facebook and twitter, but they only refresh the page when they are clicked. How do I get them to reroute to the proper pages?
2) How do I add the Pinterest icon and likewise, have the icon reroute to my pinterest page?

Thank you!!

Hi Jeroen de Boer,

Unfortunately I'm just not sure how the plugin works and what it uses to attempt to grab photos and insert itself into the pages. If you are able to add a php hook into the theme you can force it to display where you want.

As for getting the plugin to grab the featured images, I'm not sure there is anything we can do as support as we aren't able to offer support for third party plugins.

Regards,

Hey Ismael,
Thanks for replying.

This is what it should do according to the developers of the plugin:

Pinterest
Since version 2.0.5 the plugin has the option to show Pinterest buttons. The plugin tries to find the featured image or first image in the content if available. If no image is available the button is omitted. Since version 2.0.7 is is possible to enter the URL of a default image to use in case no image was found. You can also set the plugin to always use the default image regardless of any available images.

But allthough there is a featured image, it is not found.

Hey,

Looks like you need to edit the plugin itself. Do they provide a shortcode that you add on your template files?

Regards,

Am using Social Sharing Toolkit plugin fot sharing options in website fabulouswomen.nl. Tried several, but this one works great.
Except Pinterest button. On most pages it doesn't show. Even when pages have images (featured images).
On this page http://fabulouswomen.nl/partners/ it shows the pin-button, but only uses first image (logo Bailine) as image to pin. And there are a lot of images one should be able to choose from.

Can you help me out here? I would really like this pin-button to show on all pages the rest of the sharing buttons are also showing. And I would like people to be able to choose which image they would like to pin when multiple images are on the page.

Thanks for your support!!

Hi,

Like I said you can create the button yourself which will only pull the image you define. I've done this before so I can attest to it working. Good luck on your website!

Thanks Mya.

Will just skip the button.
I am afraid thought it has nothing to do with shareaholic (not Sharelogic ..sorry)
People with Pinterest accounts will probably still be able to do this..dont know for sure cause j have no account

Hi,

In order to prevent this you would have to alter which images Pinterest displays which in this case means editing the plugin itself. Since this a plugin from ShareLogic you will have to check with them as to if this is possible.

Alternatively, you could create your own Pin It buttons using Pinterest's "Pin It Button for Web Sites" tools which also allows you to define which image to use. Keep in mind you would have to create a new "Pin It" button for each image.

http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/

Ismael,

The whole point for me having a portfolio is that users can view images in a good resolution (after clicking on it in the Portfolio)
But Pinterest shows my hig-res pictures of the whole portfolio at once.

So, yes I can crop them all to 640x480 but that will keep my users away..... : (

Try to manually crop all images that you will upload to prevent downloading of high resolution images.

Hello all,

I have installed the Sharelogic plugin on my Flaslight theme.
The pinterest button is showing at the top of my portfolio, as part of the page description.
When I use it I can pin all the original (high res) images and not the medium sized ones it is showing in the portfolio itself.
Kind of scary cause anyone can steal my images in an instance...

Look at http://bit.ly/K499Sm

Hi commonmodel,

I think it would be better to actually have something like that (permanent and built in) added with a theme update that way its supported across the board.

I'll forward the thread and code that Chris provided to Kriesi and see if he has a suggestion/would be willing to add it into the core files.
