Hi,

Ok. Please open up /includes/related-portfolio-posts.php

First take a look how you like this look, I wasn't even aware of this capability of showing the related posts as a slider so that the page doesn't become too busy http://www.clipular.com/c?2554070=M1n2kuu8lTUqB4jZKWVLV6vppOM

a) Please change line 13 which looks like

$postcount = ($columns * 1);

to look like

$postcount = ($columns * 3);

Nick,

The number of the "portfolio items" in the dynamic template 'controls' the number displayed on this page:
http://visualimpact.wpengine.com/print-production/

We want to have all of these 'items' (less the one displayed---which would be 10, in this instance) displayed below the item picture listed under the "Related Entries" title (which is only showing 4 of then possible 10 available):
http://visualimpact.wpengine.com/example/print-books/

[ Note: Tried the "All" in the dynamic template for the number of portfolio items to be displayed, and it didn't change the number of items shown under the "related Entries" title].

Hi,

You mean you want order all related entries from 1 to last ?

You can try increasing the number of total items shown. There is a setting for portfolio in the custom templates that lets you select the total number of portfolio items shown. One of the options is 'Áll', please try that.

Thanks,

For a portfolio item, is it possible to display ALL of the "Related Entries" below, rather than just 4 of them (in my example).

Example Portfolio Item:
http://visualimpact.wpengine.com/example/books/

The "landing page" it comes from (has 11 'items'):
http://visualimpact.wpengine.com/print-production/

I would like to have the remaining 10 "Related Entries" displayed (in this instance). [There are other 'items' that may have more, as we continue to develop the site].

Hi,

The most simple solution would of course be to remove the title completely and instead use the caption to say whatever it is you want said which will appear as a semi-transparent overlay (whose color, position, animation you should be able to control .. see image from my previous post and experiment)

If you insist on having a title there it can be pulled out of the database along with the custom url. Do you want to first see if you like the caption option or title with correct url?

You can either hide the redundant portfolio item page entirely , so that the only thing it containts is just the image and since its listed nowhere on the site, the google spider won't be able to index it (you can also add no-index meta tag to it).

It's a myth that duplicate content hurts a website. It doesn't. It just gets ignored by google with no penalty. Every day hundeds of AP and Reuters news stories are carried by thousands of websites without rephrasing: yahoo, cnn, fox, abc... etc.. If there was a penalty every news site would be blacklisted,

Google invented the canonical meta tag which is used on all similar pages of the site to point to the 'main' page to let google know that http://www.hello.com/about/ is the same as http://hello.com/about/ ... you can add that meta tag to individual pages using yoast seo plugin (or some other).

However you can use the portfolio item page to your advantage. Add unique content to the portfolio item page and use it as a secondary information source that provides additional info about the contents of the post. example : ingredients list and calorie information for the post about a specific breakfast, or review page about it, or...

Thanks,

Nick, thanks for your reply!

I have done it they way you suggested. I have couple questions:

1- When you click the image in the portfolio main page, it takes you to the blog page, which is what I want. BUT, if you click to the portfolio title in the portfolio main page, it takes you to the portfolio entry. Is there a way to change that link?
2- With your approach, I still have to create one blog post and one portfolio page for the same entry (e.g. breakfast meal). In this case, would it be best to leave the portfolio page's content area empty (considering and hoping you have a solution for the 1st question) for SEO related purposes? As far as I know, it hurts to have two exact content with seperate URLs. And just think about it, everytime I create a post entry, if I will mirror it on a portfolio item as well, will the Search Engines go crazy?

Thanks again for your time!

Hi,

You can't do it like that yet unfortunately. However you can do it backwards so to speak, going from portfolio to a page or a post. For example , if you have 20 blog posts (or pages or a mix of posts and pages) about 20 different breakfasts (for example). You can create 20 portfolio items, each for one breakfast and link the image of the portfolio item breakfast directly to the blog post or page instead of to the portfolio-item page.

This way , your visitors can sort the portfolio of breakfasts (normal portfolio page) but when they click on image of breakfast they sorted (based on calories, or ingredients ... which would be portfolio categories) the visitor after clicking the portfolio list image will be taken not to the portfolio-item page, but to a regular page (or a blog post that deals with that particular portfolio item) .

To do that, when you add an image of a breakfast to a portfolio item, you open a panel to edit the link This way the portfolio-item page gets bypassed entirely. (see image http://i.imgur.com/jCesK.png )

Thanks,

Hi shoestringsites,

I believe the issue is that the sidebar and content are associated with the page content. So when you view a page with a password, the data is not even accessible to the user so it can not be manipulated yet.

By setting the content to be hidden on load there is definitely a conflict between how the item is requested and how a user would enter a password but I'm not sure if its a solvable issue. The nature of the protection means no content (even the presence of a gallery) can be accessed until the password has been entered and the server receives it.

I'll tag Kriesi on the post so that he can take a look at it and see if a fix/word-around or something can be done for that specific instance.

Selecting 'Display Gallery on page load, user needs to click on the "home" button to show sidebar and content' and giving the post a password results in a broken portfolio item; In the portfolio the item appears as usual with a padlock. When entering that portfolio item the page is blank.

Caveat: If you've previously entered the password for that item (before choosing the 'Display Gallery on page load, user needs to click on the "home" button to show sidebar and content' setting) then the portfolio will work as expected.

Removing the password the portfolio item works as expected. Setting Instant Background Gallery back to 'Display Sidebar and content on page load, user needs to hide it manually' the portfolio item works as expected.

When the page is blank, viewing the source reveals that the HTML is there, so it looks to me like the password protection javascript removes the bottom bar (with the option to show the sidebar+content), and the 'Display Gallery on page load…' option removes both the sidebar and content area, despite the fact the content area is needed at this point in order to request the password. The result is a completely blank page that the user cannot enter a password into in order to progress.

The code to hide the sidebar+content should really take place AFTER the password has been entered, i.e. when displaying the gallery. Not before.

Hello,

I'm trying to darken the color of the subtitles (and links) for my portfolio items. It's currently a light grey. But every time I choose a darker color for the "Primary Color" in Styling Options, it darkens the social icons, the magnifying glass of the search and other things. But the subtitle, and links in the Portfolio Items remain unchanged.

Which of the Styling Options controls this?

Hi okandemi,

I suggest you don't use the blog post on this, instead you just use Portfolio Items and Template Builder. Use the template builder to show your portfolio items on the frontpage or homepage. Then the portfolio items on the Frontpage will just show the image of the food and its corresponding title and when clicked goes to its specific page, showing all of the details of that particular food.

If you don't know how to do the things above this video tutorial will surely help: http://www.kriesi.at/themes/angular/template-files/video-tutorials/
and find the video with this title:
Abundance Theme Demo 6:
Building improved layouts with the template builder

Hope this helps. :)

Hi,

This theme is already awesome but let's see if it will rock my world, here's my problem:

I want each blog post (in a given category) on the homepage to show up in the portfolio page (in the same category) as portfolio items as well. I mean, is there a way to link blog posts to portfolio items?

Here is a use case (it's a cooking blog):
- I post a blog post on the front page under breakfast category.
- That post is pulled by the portfolio page, shows up in the breakfast category and includes all the images inside that blog post.

Is there a way to do it? Maybe another approach?

Thanks,

Hey!

You can hide the title with following css code - add it to css/custom.css or the quick css field:

.ajax_portfolio .inner-entry .post-title.portfolio-title{
display: none !important;
}

Best regards,

I am trying to remove the text from a portfolio item when using a dynamic template. You can view what I would like to get rid of on the homepage of my site:

http://www.volohmedia.com

It would be great to just have the images in a block and no text above, leaving that for inside the project description when clicked. Not sure how easy this is buy and help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
thanks for the reply!
I already suspected that the solution for this problem is very simple, but couldn't find the mistake.

Hi Aequinox5,

Try going to your Choices Theme Options>Layout & Settings then look for "Slideshow behavior on overview pages". Set that option to "Display only single image on overview pages and all slideshow images except the first one on single entries"

This will force the theme to use a single image on overview pages like the main blog page and any general portfolio pages. The single first image will then not be shown on that single post or item.

Regards,

Hi,

I have a question about the portfolio.
Every portfolio item on my portfolio page has a slider (previous and next button), when it contains more than one slideshow picture.
Where i can change the option that every portfolio item shows only the first picture of the slideshow on the main page?

This is how it should looks like (only one picture for a portfolio item):
http://www.kriesi.at/themes/choices/template-files/portfolio-4-columns/?skin=Black

Ans this is how it looks like:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14317890/portfolio.png

Hi,

Still having problems with the shifty thumbnails...

So I've updated the theme to 1.2. In addition to the modified files mentioned in the release notes...style.css, folder: framework, css/layout.css, functions-coherence.php...I also noticed that css/base.css and avia/avia.js had updates since 1.1 so I updated them too--was this an oversight on the release notes? I did file compares on all the new stuff and my old stuff to make sure there weren't any foreseeable problems with making the updates.

Modifications I've made to files that may help pinpoint the problem, but I don't think they're relevant to this issue:
*I have some stuff relating to the mobile menu commented out in avia.js
*In functions.php I changed one dimension on the 'portfolio_small' thumbnail, but I don't think it's too relevant because it only has effect on the Team page (portfolio items 4-across) and the Focus page (portfolio items 3-across) (http://bit.ly/OKnIJO) is where the problem presents the worst.
*I have 2 functions added to the end of functions.php relating to copyright date in the socket and display options for the category menu
*I think I've made small mods to header.php, sidebar.php, and footer.php which shouldn't matter.
*all my css is in custom.css--I don't think there's anything in there that could be the problem but my portfolio-related section is near the end of the file if you want to look.

The worst case is in Firefox, most recent version, on Mac, but it still happens in Chrome, too. In fact, I think it is worse now, especially the first image on the Focus page--when the page loads the image jumps left-right and when mousing over it is moves the most out of all of them, and I'm pretty sure the issue on this image is worse than before the updates.

The thumbnail image files themselves were fine but for good measure I ran Regenerate Thumbnails and they still seem fine.

Am I overlooking something I should have updated? Is something in my css conflicting?

Your help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

With stumble upon, you should find out what problem they have with your url, they often make mistakes but they probably have your site listed as violating some rule as determined by an outdated bot. Consider adding a subdomain, if they refuse to answer you which in return redirects back to your domain. sensei.your-site.com (subdomain)

Thanks and Good Luck,

Hi Demi,

You can put any length of text you want into the Excerpt field when editing or creating a portfolio item.

As far as I know, the featured media displays images and video in the same way with the order going from top to bottom. Is it behaving differently for you?

The only way to customize the Archive pages would be to modify the taxonomy-portfolio_entries.php page in your theme files. It controls the output and calls some various functions to get everything displayed. It has some commenting to allow for some basic changes but if you aren't comfortable with basic html/php it will be a little hard to edit.

Regards,
