Glad that worked for you :)

I don't think anything like that will ever be added in to the theme simply because the shortcode functionality is the proper implementation of that. Even in Kriesi's new theme all of the layouts are done using shortcodes simple because its a great way to handle these kinds of layouts.

Thank you Devin.

This is a work-around we can make use of.

Perhaps in the future, you can build this functionality (ability to add direct links to individual images) within your "Products," "Product Slider," and "Slider" page elements, within your template builder...?

For those of us who not adept PHP coders, making use of the tools you provide in order to maintain consistency in our web design is essential.

Thanks again,

Hi Lyana,

I would use a regular page to build that section. Use the themes shortcodes for columns and arrange the images in the columns and set them as the links you want.

Then in the frontpage template, add a page content element and have it set to that page so that it outputs the image navigation how you want.

Regards,

We are trying to use your Replete demo Home Page as a model for our Home Page, which can be see at this link: http://www.nationalsafetysupply.com.php53-8.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com/

On your Replete demo Home Page, we see you have a Main Slider, a "Featured Products" slider and then an "Our most recent collections" section.

On our site, we would like to show twelve images, in place of the section you call "Our most recent collections," that, when clicked, would take you to our Category pages.

For example: If you look at the first image in our section "Products By Category," you will see the Bosch AutoDome 800 HD PTZ Camera. Right now, when clicked, this takes you to a Product Detail page.

Instead, we would like to use the camera as a featured image with the description "Security Systems," that would simply link to a Category Page for that topic. And treat all twelve images the same way.

We cannot see how to do this within your theme.

Thank you,

Okay...
So a brief history...
I built a website on iWeb.. yes, yes I know... but it was soooo easy to use and I could make it do anything!!! Using Paypal buttons I set up a site (which is still running) and I loved the freedom it gave me. But as I became aware of correct HTML coding and proper CSS and SEO, etc etc... I knew our site was not getting the traffic I needed. So I started to learn some code and I can read it and tell what it's doing but I AM NOT A CODER>... and just like people who use a computer every day, but don't want to build computers... I would like to make a great functional, awesome, lovely and not boring website, but I can't really spend more time on the coding curve at this point... I will later but for the moment I need a proper site with SEO function and I'm also afraid that eventually my iWeb site will not work anymore...
earthpowerstones.com

A friend said she would help.... so I transferred to Dreamhost and WordPress.org, started a earthpowerstones/development site within Dreamhost and added products (over 147 or them) and pages and more... then my friend deserted me... so here I am ...
I have purchased the Abundance Theme... and I set it up... although there are now images that are wonky but I think I can fix this later....
My problem is this (I've searched the forum and the web with No help) so I'm asking you...
I have over 147 products loaded AND published
I've set up my pages (although with the new theme I haven't tweaked the menu completely yet) and they are all published
And I have 37 Product Categories
But none of my products show up ANYWHERE... now I know it's probably something Lame on my part but I can't for the life of me figure it out!!!!
I'd ultimately like to organize products to certain pages not just a shop page.
like have all the bracelets on the bracelet page, different chakra jewelry on each different Chakra page but even though each product is tagged and has a product category assigned to it AND they are published they are not searchable, nor do they show up anywhere...
So the website is not visible because it's lying under the other one, if that makes sense... but here for instance is one of the pages:
http://www.earthpowerstones.com/development/chakra-jewelry/solar-plexus-chakra/
Have no idea what I'm doing wrong...
Help would be lovely and much appreciated.
KDS

Hi,

It makes sense in the sense that I understand what you are describing. What I can't imagine though is a bug that with skills of a surgeon goes into a multidimensional array object and changes one in a long list of data the array holds and not in all but in a specific subset of categories housed within the object. I can tell you the tests that are likely to trigger something. Add a new category. Change a category's name. Add Product to category for first time. Remove last product from category. Move product from one category to a newly created category.

Thanks,

Hi Nick,

Wow. Thanks for digging into this even deeper. I can see how frustrating this must be for you.

I'm starting a new experiment. I just reordered all of the categories that were out of place and started a list of exactly which ones moved. There were a total of 25 of the 134 categories that moved since last time I fixed the order about a week ago. I'll watch it every few days and keep track of which categories move when. Although I can't prove so yet, it seems like the same ones keep moving each time. Some are older categories, some newer. Maybe by keeping track of who moves most frequently I can narrow it down to specific categories and perhaps re-create those particular categories. Maybe there is a bug in the category itself? Does that make any sense at all?

Thank you for your help,

Hi,

The problem is that I can't recreate your error. My categories stay where they are supposed to. Each category has a meta field with a number which is the order it is supposed to show up in (what you set by moving them up and down in the back-end). Mine remains the same and doesn't randomly change as you describe every x days. All the code that displays the categories is located within the plugin.

There is an easy way for you to see that for yourself -> (just not on a live site, unless you take it out quick). Open up in the plugin folder /woocommerce/classes/class-wc-shortcodes.php .. and look for the code below which should be around line 303 (i edited the file while testing so it may have moved from original line)

foreach ( $product_categories as $category ) {

and whatever line you find the above code on, add the code below right after it

echo'<!--';
var_dump( $category );
echo'-->';

This is just a test, and you should remove it immediately or use a development website.

You can see the array holding all the values for each category being displayed with the meta field in there (that is the position of how it should be ordered) . So somehow just that one field in the array is changed while the remainder stays the same. This will take a bit of time to uncover.

But we are here and doing our best since its too easy to pass you off to the plugin author without first breaking a few nails digging into the code.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Hmmmm. Coding the page in html sounds like it could work but that just defeats the purpose of having database, having a CMS, having a theme, having Wordpress, having any of this at all. I had html lists of categories on my old web site all created in html but grew up two years ago with a "real" site with all the bells and widgets. One of the reasons I have your theme and a shopping cart is that the creation of these category sidebars is automated and populated on all of my pages without any extra coding on my part. I'd hate to go back to the stone ages of dropping that automation. There are probably at least 500 pages with this same sidebar. Easier would be to just manually re-order the categories when needed. But, I'd rather not have easy. I'd rather wait until someone can help me. I'd really appreciate it you could keep looking a this issue. I also have the folks at Woo looking into it and I'm crossing my fingers that it might be a simple ah ha moment of code clarity that would make this all do-able and easy once again.

Thanks for digging into it,

Hi,

We are looking at this issue. To be honest with you , it would be easier for you to just code the page in html for now to ensure that the order remains the same. Simply re-create the page by adding images and lining them up in a table to create the page. I spend a long time looking at this and I dont see anything that would change the order on its own.

thanks,

I posted a query about a category problem I am having with my Abundance Theme. Devon answered that query and suggested that the problem was a WooCommerce problem. I contacted WooCommerce support and their guy said he's seen this problem before with Kriese and thinks it is on a theme problem, not a WooCommerce problem. Kriesi blames Woo and Woo blames Kriesi and still my problem is not resolved.

To reiterate, here is my problem. My product categories are not staying in the order I set for them. The correct order for the icons is below. About once a week I have to go in an manually reorder all of my categories as they keep randomly moving out of order.

Correct Icon Order
1. Artist Books
2. Broadsides
3. New Works
4. Curated Collections
5. Artist in Inventory
6. Photos
7. Paintings/Mixed
8. Catalogs
9. Exhibitions

These categories were moved to the correct order on March 23rd. Today, March 28th, the categories have suddenly jumped out of order. When I was last working on Saturday, everything was correct. By Monday morning, the 28th they had changed.

If you go to my product page today you can see what order they have currently shifted to: http://23sandy.com/works/products-page

Here is my original Kriesi query: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/product-categories-not-staying-in-set-order?message=update-support-forums-topic-status-error

If anyone at Kriesi could please take another look at this issue I would be very appreciative. It is very frustrating to have to manually re-order all of my categories on what seems like at least a weekly basis.

Thank you,

Hey Laura,

Unfortunately I think its just an error from within woocommerce. I've recently had reports of similar issues here and there with different themes and even different versions of woocommerce.

The sorting has been an issue with the plugin in general for a while (alphabetical sorting not working etc).

Regards,

I have the Abundance theme on my web store. The product categories and subcategories on my store are positioned on my left sidebar. I drag and drop these categories and subcategories into a specific order. But, a strange problem happens in that when I drag and drop my product categories into the correct order they will stay in that same order for a little while but within a few days some of the categories will randomly change order. They just won't stick in the order I've set by dragging and dropping in the product categories page. There is no rhyme or reason as to what causes them to move, although it often seems like the same ones move out of order at various times, but not always.

Here is where you can see the categories both on my left sidebar and on the product icon order:

http://23sandy.com/works/products-page

I am using the WooCommerce Product Categories widget within Abundance and it is set to "Order By: Category Order"

Any idea why this is happening and how to fix?

Thank you,

Hi Peter,

Thank you.

The combination of is_woocommerce() and is_search() did not work. However, removing is_search() and only checking for is_woocommerce() did force the correct class to be added to the Div (e.g. sidebar_left). Unfortunately, despite that we are now including the correct class, the sidebar is still appearing on the right. Can't understand why.

Perhaps you could take a look here:

http://oboralux.com/beta/?s=scarf&post_type=product

The correct placement left-side placement of the sidebar can be seen on another page here:

http://oboralux.com/beta/shop-catalog/product-category/new-in/

I can't see any obvious difference in the code.

Hey!

All woocommerce specific conditional tags are listed here: http://wcdocs.woothemes.com/codex/theming/conditional-tags/ - eg you can try is_woocommerce() && is_search()

Best regards,

This is a continuation of a closed post found here:

http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/override-sidebar-position-for-shop-pages-part-ii

The solution described in the previous post (Part II) worked well to force a left sidebar on shop product category pages when the theme's default sidebar is right.

The solution worked by detecting that the user is on a product category page using is_product_category() and then forcing the left sidebar accordingly.

Unfortunately, this solution is not working on the shop product search results page because the system is correctly detecting that the user is NOT on a product category page and so the default right sidebar is shown.

My question is: how can I detect that the user is on the shop product search results page so that I can force a left sidebar for this page as well? Is there a function like is_product_search() that I can also test for?

Yes thanks. It was in the show subcategory options . Someone else must have changed the boxes there. I had looked there and it lookeed right. I hadn't realised that subcategories also meant categories.
Thaks for pointing it out

Hi Tim,

What has recently changed on your site as far as plugins/updates etc? If you updated the theme files, did you used to have customization to those files that changed the way your catalog page would normally look?

In the WooCommerce options, do you have anything checked in Catalog>Show subcategories?

Regards,

Something has happened to our shop.
When going to the 'Shop' page, it no longer shows product categories but is trying to show all the products.
http://www.paddlepanama.com
I've been through all the settings that I could think of.
Do you know what has happened please ?
