Hi 1976Hoosiers,

You could replace the image format with the standard format code. You would open up the includes folder in your theme files and then copy the code from format-standard.php into format-image.php.

I'm not quite clear on if this is what you were looking to do but from the description that is my best guess.

Regards,

Is there anyway to set the featured image on the related posts to an image instead of the default image. I love the related posts and I love the responsive slider, but the only way I can set the image is if I post using the "standard" format and not the "image" format, hence losing the responsive slider. Any help would be appreciated love the theme :)

Cheers,

Hi leocantoemello,

Related posts are randomly pulled from all posts that share a "tag" . So if the post doesn't have a tag that is shared by another post, no related entries will be shown.

Dear All,
I just realized that the related post feature is not working properly in my posts.
The post supposed to show related posts in the bottom of the post body, but sometimes it shows a post that is not related to it, sometimes it shows one of the various posts that I have related to it and sometimes it shows nothing.
Note that all the posts I'm referring to has the same category. I even inserted the category "no category" to test. But the result is the same.
Following some examples:
Showing only one related post - http://www.estrategiamais.com.br/2013/01/como-pegar-roubo-no-caixa-da-sua-loja/
Showing no related post - http://www.estrategiamais.com.br/2013/02/roubos-de-caixa-no-varejo-2a-parte/
Showing several related posts but not the most recent ones - http://www.estrategiamais.com.br/2012/10/mentiras-e-verdades-sobre-a-margem-de-lucro/
How may I fix it?
Waiting for your answer. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

So I am guessing you want a related blog posts to show up for every single blog post on the page of the blog home.

Please open template-blog.php located at the base of the theme, and between lines 52-53 please paste the following

get_template_part( 'includes/related-posts');

when you are finished, lines 52-53 should look like

get_template_part( 'includes/loop', 'index' );
get_template_part( 'includes/related-posts');

Just in case there is a problem be ready to revert back, so do not try this on your live site unless you have an ftp program ready to undo the changes.

Thanks,

Hi there,

amazing theme! I am trying to make the "related posts" area that is in the single blog post on Angular to show up in the blog feed, kind of like this girl has on her blog: http://www.mstetson.com/
I have the blog settings on my website set so that people can read the full blogs from the main blog page without having to click into individual posts. This is why I want it on that main blog page after the end of blogs.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Karen,

Yes, it must be using Flashlights gallery which is the green Upload underneath the post's visual editor. The post should then display related posts based on common tags.

Make sure after uploading on the individual post that you save the post and that when you go back to it you can see the image(s) in the Gallery Options area under the Image Gallery sub heading.

Hmm, I did a search for Related Posts and this was as close to the answer as I could come up with. Except, well, set gallery image? Can you please walk me through this? Right now, I don't have the images uploaded via Flashlight's Image Gallery. I've been having problems with it (images don't show up). Is this where the image has to be in order to be set for the Related Post image? If so, it didn't work... I uploaded to the Image Gallery, refreshed the blog page that had the related post link, and no image.

Sorry if I'm being an idiot about this, but I'd love for it to work since I just started using tags and this (related posts) showed up when I did. :)

Thanks a bunch!

Hi NowYouNoah,

I believe the post images are already set to not be cropped but it may need to be added to the featured item in your functions.php (in the theme files) as well. So open up functions.php and find:

$avia_config['imgSize']['featured'] = array('width'=>930, 'height'=>340);

Replace it with:

$avia_config['imgSize']['featured'] = array('width'=>930, 'height'=>340, 'crop'=>false);

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

The more precise related posts functionality is heavy, thus in order for a serious algorithm to be able to find posts that are even closer related would come at the sacrifice of your website's load time. Please, let me give you an example.

A free plugin called YARPP is great at matching related articles. However, in order to do that it takes up a lot of resources (http://yoast.com/wordpress-performance-optimization/ 7 out of 16 database calls in this article. )

Now the question is, are you willing to sacrifice your loading speed (which Google uses as an integral factor in its algorithm to determine your site's placement in the search results), or do you want to have articles that are better match?

If you can balance the inclusion of YARPP (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/yet-another-related-posts-plugin/) through optimization, then it's doable.

You have a really sweet Server, very fast. (http://www.webpagetest.org/result/120901_Q7_d82decb70a6e960a601744599ec17ed1/3/details/) but you can optimize still a lot further. You can download the executive summary report on your website http://gtmetrix.com/reports/outsmartingfish.com/abHTFCcb/pdf

Hi ChristiMc,

I just want to verify something, you want to replace the gray box, not only the color, but you want to replace it with an image, without removing the magnifying glass. Having 2 images at the same element as a background is not possible. However, there is a way to do it, but you will be merging the two images (the custom box and the magnifying glass). You will need to use an image editor like adobe photoshop and open the custom box image and get the magnifying glass image an put it inside the custom box image and save it.

The merged image, let's just call it newimage.png. Place this image inside images > skin-minimal folder (where the magnifying glass is placed). Then replace the code above with this code:

background:url("../images/skin-minimal/newimage.png") no-repeat scroll center center #333;

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers,

Ok, now we're closer. However, I want to replace the box with an image, not another color. I've tried replacing the magnify_light.png file with my custom image already in that line of CSS code but that means the magnifying glass no longer appears.

So, do you have any other suggestions for me to replace the grey box with an actual image for the related post default image while still keeping the magnifying glass that appears on top of it?

Hi,

How are you displaying the related posts? A plugin? A built-in widget?

Hi ChristiMc,

Sorry about that, Yes, it can be done. Kindly go to wp-content/themes/abundance/css/minimal-skin.css and find this line of code(line 522):

background:url("../images/skin-minimal/magnify_light.png") no-repeat scroll center center #333;

and replace the #333 with another color like #ccc. You can use this as a reference http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_colors.asp

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

Hello Ismael and thanks for responding to my inquiry. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about related "products" just the related "posts" feature in a blog post.

I have a default related products image that is 300px x 300px and that works fine.

If you look at this post: http://www.navigatinggrief.com/new/grief-101 and scroll down the page, you'll see the related post rectangle that is a dark grey/black box. I want to replace that box with something more appealing.

Can this be done?

How do I get my related posts to show an image. I believe it worked when I was using a 'slideshow' image in a post, otherwise it just shows the title of the post alone with no image. Why can't i get the related post to pull the 'featured image' from each post?

Hi ChristiMc,

It's hard to filter that, because if we try to remove that gray box, it will also remove the gray border in other related product's images. However, we can do an alternate solution to that, for the product that doesn't have an image, you can upload some default image with a size of 300x300px. This way, related product images would look more consistent, and enhances the overall design of your site. :)

Regards,

Is there a way to replace the default image in the related posts area? The grey box is unappealing and I'd like to replace the default with something else but I can't seem to find how/where to do this.

Can anyone point me in the direction to change this?
