Hi lynxmarketing,

As far as I know the theme wouldn't be interfering in that in anyway. While I'm not familiar with how the plugin modifies the search, it would probably be related to WooCommerce since it creates and controls all custom taxonomies related to products.

Relevanssi has been an excellent plugin for improving search functionality in the Abundance theme with Woocommerce. But I'm still having trouble enabling product categories and archive pages in search results. I've tried adding many different variations of custom taxonomies and fields to the Relevanssi settings - but have had no luck. Is there something I'm missing? product_cat, product_tag, category, cat, cats, product_type, _product_cat, _product_tag, _product_type, pa_attribute, meta_key,product_category, archive, product_archive, product-archive, archive, product-category

I realize you guys don't officially support 3rd party plugins, but I have a feeling this issue may have something to do with the visibility/searchability of product_cats and archives in the avia framework. I can see products (and product thumbnails), but the product category pages don't show up. If someone searches for "cameras," I would love for the cameras product_cat archive page to show up in the results.

Sample search result: http://finishlynx.ourhosting.com/?s=cameras

Hi wolffpower,

Dude is referring to the Relevanssi plugin as what the theme does is just hook into the actual Wordpress Search function. The end result is we really can not modify if the search will pull up Tags. You will need to either use a plugin or look into modifying the Wordpress Search with some custom php.

Regards,

Hi and thanks for your reply. I've created a few products and the tags are showing up on the product pages and also under WooCommerce > Products > Tags. Unfortunately they're still not showing up in search results.

Maybe I've misunderstood something? When you refer to the "Product post type", can you be more specific about where I can find this in the options panel?

Unfortunately the WordPress standard search is very limited and it's not possible easily possible to build an advanced search query without good coding/wp skills. Relevanssi works quite good for the products post type (you need to select this post type in the options panel) and I see no reason why it shouldn't support tags. Maybe ask the author here: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/relevanssi if product tags are supported out of the box or not.

Hi and thanks for the suggestion. Unfortuantely I don't know enough php/CSS to know whether this is what I'm looking for :-(. I don't see anything in this code snippet that seems to be related to search, so I'd suggest not.

Is this not something you can try yourself? Create a product with tags and then try to find a way to search against those tags?

I assume the tags go into a database somewhere - I'm just not sure why search wouldn't return these results.

Unfortunately that hasn't worked :-(. Still no search results for my tags.

I did, however, come across a post related to a different theme which suggested that the way the theme initiates the search could affect search results (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-relevanssi-a-better-search-can-not-get-relevanssi-to-work-newbie). I can't find where this code would be within Flashlight - can you confirm whether this is/isn't the case?

Hello:

I'm creating a photography e-commerce website. I have 200+ images that have already been tagged in Lightroom. Ideally, I'd like to find an efficient workflow to transfer these images into "products" within Flashlight, keeping their tags in the process.

However, I'll settle for having to recreate these tags for each individual image, if I can get Search to work on these tags.

I've tried creating a test product from scratch and added some test tags manually, but I can't get either WooCommerce Product Search or Search Everything (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-everything/) to search on these tags. They'll bring back results when I have the keywords in the title or description, just not the tags.

This seems a bit pointless really: why have the ability to add tags but not be able to search on them?

Can anyone help please?

Hi hsaleem1,

It looks like variable products don't follow the same coding as the simple products for populating the image variable needed for the search results thumb. It might be added in at a later update but I know Kriesi has a solid list of bugs on the various themes to tackle first :)

Hi hsaleem1,

I'll forward the issue to Kriesi. It may (or may not) be something he can modify with the theme files as almost everything to do with the shop content is generated and handled by the WooCommerce plugin. Either way we will let you know asap :)

Please see this link: http://silkplasters.in/?s=pink

The behaviour of the search results page is very eccentric. It shows images next to search results for some, and ignores it for other products. All products are identical, except some have custom product attributes set in WooCommerce (and these are the ones that don't get their images displayed in search).

Any ideas on how to fix this?

UPDATE1: I tried to disable Relevanssi and search, but the problem is still there. It may be related to setting custom attributes in products, as those are the only ones that don't show images next to headings in search.
- example a: http://silkplasters.in/?s=silk+mono (all results show images, as product attributes are NOT SET for this range)
- example b: http://silkplasters.in/?s=airline (none of the results show images, as product attributes are SET for this range)

That's something I don't know. I guess it already uses the search results of Relevanssi (see changelog: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/kau-boys-autocompleter/changelog/ and http://kau-boys.de/24/wordpress/kau-boys-autocompleter-plugin ) but I'm not entirely sure.

ThreeWP doesn't work with many themes (Thesis, Genesis, etc.) - it seems like it requires specific code which is included in TwentyEleven but not in other themes.

Hey, thanks Dude! Did not know the Kau-Boy's plug, looks nice and works well with Abundance.
Only thing I could not figure out: how can I teach this one to use the Relevanssi search results? - seemingly it does not use the Relevanssi search index but looks in title/content via a standard WP search.
That was the reason I tried the ThreeWP thingy, since the Relevanssi-author recommended it.
If the autocompleter would use Relevanssis output and weighting, it would be the ideal solution imho...

But maybe we find a way to get ThreeWP to work - at least it works perfectly with TwentyTen, so it is a theme compatibility thing.

I couldn't get ThreeWP to work (not sure why because the ajax request itself returns the right results but the plugin doesn't generate the result list) afterwards. However this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/kau-boys-autocompleter/ works fine for me and is more versatile imho.

yep, misunderstanding - what I meant with "real solution" was that a store-theme like Abundance might want to include products in search results out of the box OR make it easier for us to use a search plugin without having to edit core files. ;-)

But while we are at it: do you happen to use ThreeWP Ajax Search or any other live-search plugin in combination with Relevanssi and could tell me what settings to use for it so it works with Abundance? With the ThreeWP standard settings the header search box starts to show some ajaxy behaviour, but no search results, and the sidebar search widgets refuses to do anything "live" at all....

Hey,
To be honest I think that's the only "real" solution because the standard wordpress search function doesn't search/sort by word relevance or string relevance but by date - which is kind of useless if you want to get accurate search results. If you want a "professional" search query I'd use Relevanssi anyway. The standard wordpress search function often returns inappropriate search results or no results at all whereas Relevanssi can query complex words or string combinations.

It was one of the first plugins I added to my recommendation list: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/useful-plugins (see WP-Search plugin(s) ).

I'd prefer a real solution, but as a quick fix for those who would like to use Relevanssi to get better search results for their visitors:

- install Relevanssi
- activate it
- in the settings, tell it to index everything and be sure to include "product" as custom post type to index and any important product attributes under "custom taxonomies" (e.g. I have a product attribute called "Author", so I have to include "pa_author" in the Relevanssi "custom taxonomies" field)
- edit loop-search.php in the abundance/include folder or (better) add a copy of it to your child theme and comment out this line near the beginning:
if(isset($avia_config['new_query'])) { query_posts($avia_config['new_query']); }

- done :)
- your visitors now will find products along with pages and posts, and terms are even found if they are in a product attribute from WooCommerce. And if you have Relevanssi Premium, you can even weight search results by custom post type/taxonomy, so e.g. you can show your products always first in the searches, and relevant blog posts and pages will be weighted less and appear below them.

Might not be exactly a bug, but it seems to me that it is rather confusing for visitors and that there should be an option to change it.

The default site search (header, standard sidebars) does not find products. So if a "normal" user, who usually will not comprehend the logic behind having to separate search indices on one site, searches for "ring blue" in the header search box, he will be told there is nothing like that on the site - and he will leave. Which of course is not the intended result.

Is there any way to either

- change the default search behaviour to include products and product attributes

- make it possible to replace the internal search with a plugin like Relevanssi that enables a weighted search across all posts, pages, custom post types, etc.pp. Usually this works out of the box, but with Abundance the search seems to slightly different from "normal" WP installs, since standard search is still used even after Relevanssi is installed and set to active.

thanks
Martin
