Unfortunately this is the standard wordpress search query behavior and this has nothing to do with the theme - the search query will list all matching results (posts, pages, etc.) and the user must click on a link to visit the single entry/product, etc. page. If you want to change the behavior you need to write a custom function which hooks into the search query and redirects the user if just one result was found (if more than one result was found it doesn't make sense to show a single product page). Depending on your skills you can write it on your own or contact a php developer/freelancer who can help you.

Hi Siobhan,

The search is using the wordpress Search function though I'm not quite sure what it takes into account when running the search.

So the type of changes you are looking at would be best handled by a plugin that extends Wordpress's search functionality. Try searching for something here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Hi,

I have a few questions about the search bar functionality in Corona theme (Current Wordpress)

1. What is the search results based on? i.e. where does it take the search query information from in the pages text etc.
2. Is is possible to embed a search bar in a single page and have it only search within that page rather than search the whole site?
3. The search results come up in chronological order based on time posted - is there any way to change this for certain key words that relate to a page more specifically?

Thanks, Siobhan

Hi!

You can use following css code - add it to css/custom.css:

.template-search strong.news-headline{
font-size: 14px !important;
}

.template-search .news-excerpt p{
font-size: 12px !important;
}

Obviously you can change the font size values :)

Thanks a lot, Dude,

got that so far. Changed the mo/po files as well als the date and time format in the loop-search.php and adjusted the CSS a bit. However, I'm still wondering why the two lines (span.entry-border-overflow.extralight-border) are sticking out into the sidebar when it is positioned left.

Me again …

I installed German .mo/.po files and the whole thing works pretty well – except for the search results. They will always stay in the original English language, as well as the date format will not change. See http://maennig.de/?s=fahrrad. Does anyone have any ideas why and what I could do against it?

Also, the two lines above and below "x search results for: y" are slipping to the left into the sidebar – at least when watching the site with a Mac and Chrome or Safari. They do the same in the Sentence demo.

Thanks for any hints,

Hi wolffpower,

Dude is referring to the Relevanssi plugin as what the theme does is just hook into the actual Wordpress Search function. The end result is we really can not modify if the search will pull up Tags. You will need to either use a plugin or look into modifying the Wordpress Search with some custom php.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I've created a few products and the tags are showing up on the product pages and also under WooCommerce > Products > Tags. Unfortunately they're still not showing up in search results.

Maybe I've misunderstood something? When you refer to the "Product post type", can you be more specific about where I can find this in the options panel?

Unfortunately the WordPress standard search is very limited and it's not possible easily possible to build an advanced search query without good coding/wp skills. Relevanssi works quite good for the products post type (you need to select this post type in the options panel) and I see no reason why it shouldn't support tags. Maybe ask the author here: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/relevanssi if product tags are supported out of the box or not.

Hi and thanks for the suggestion. Unfortuantely I don't know enough php/CSS to know whether this is what I'm looking for :-(. I don't see anything in this code snippet that seems to be related to search, so I'd suggest not.

Is this not something you can try yourself? Create a product with tags and then try to find a way to search against those tags?

I assume the tags go into a database somewhere - I'm just not sure why search wouldn't return these results.

Hello:

I'm creating a photography e-commerce website. I have 200+ images that have already been tagged in Lightroom. Ideally, I'd like to find an efficient workflow to transfer these images into "products" within Flashlight, keeping their tags in the process.

However, I'll settle for having to recreate these tags for each individual image, if I can get Search to work on these tags.

I've tried creating a test product from scratch and added some test tags manually, but I can't get either WooCommerce Product Search or Search Everything (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-everything/) to search on these tags. They'll bring back results when I have the keywords in the title or description, just not the tags.

This seems a bit pointless really: why have the ability to add tags but not be able to search on them?

Can anyone help please?

Hi Zorrrro,

You can edit the pages directly by opening and modifying the 404.php, Archive.php and search.php pages.

Regards,

Ok, So I can't create a Dynamic template for Tag results, 404 and search results pages.

Now could you ask someone else in the support team. Or how could I amend them to change the layout as described above?

Thanks in advance.

Hey!

Currently this is not easily possible because the dynamic templates are stored in the database and you can't apply them to 404, Tag results, Search results, etc. pages.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi there

When I do a search on my site the resulting page has a standard format, which is obviously different of the Dynamic template I created for my blog.

How can I change the standard template and apply my own template to?

At the moment the default template is a fullwitdh but I would like to have a right column instead, so the thin line under the Heading+Subtitle ends just before the search box and it's aligned with its top.

The same issue happens when I click on a tag and go to a redirected page.

Please see here my own template redesigned…
http://www.zorrrrro.com/blog

See here one of the pages I'd like to apply my template to…
http://www.zorrrrro.com/?s=London

So is it possible to create a dynamic template and apply it to the following pages…?

404, Tag results, Search results, etc…

Thanks in advance.

Hey!

Yes sure :) - the reason is that other widget areas are displayed on certain pages only and the filter doesn't cover these pages :)

Best regards,

Thanks, Dude, for the hint with the plugin. It works only with your suggested syntax, when it is added to the "show everywhere" sidebar, thanks for being so patient, Dude!

Hi colorit2,

Unfortunately we aren't able to offer support on third party plugins. The original question is best answered using the plugin (its the easiest solution) but the actual implementation of it isn't something we can directly guide you in.

I would suggest checking the developers documentation on how to implement it. Otherwise, I believe the Search page uses the widgets that are displayed everywhere.(either right or left).

Regards,

ah okay, I think, I have understand the principle of widget-logic now, so forget my comment before please.

But nevertheless, it still doesn't work:

What I have done is, I have added for testing this a normal text widget to the sidebar "Frontpage sidebar left" (I've tried also "Sidebar Blog left"), typing some normal text in it:

Screenshot Widget: http://i46.tinypic.com/5w9mxu.jpg

In the widget-logic-field of this text widget, I add - as you have told -
is_search()
.

The result is:
this text widget is not shown on each sidebar at my site - so far so good, but it is also not shown on the search results overview - the sidebar is empty.
I type some keywords in the search bar at the top of the site and then I get an overview of all posts matching to these keywords:

Screenshot Frontend: http://i48.tinypic.com/2eurcwm.jpg

Is
is_search()
really right for typing it in the widget-logic, for showing at the search results?

thanks.
