Hi Boris,

You would need a plugin to do something like that. Maybe one of the various google sitemap plugins would do it.

Regards,

Hi there,

I want to generate a page, that contains a listing of all post, sorted by category, maybe date.

You could name that an archive, table of content or a sort of sitemap or post-index.

This way the user has an overview of all blogposts. Maybe even with a metadescription below each listing.

Do you know, how to do it? Do I need a plugin for that or does it work with WPSEO by Yoast, or Wordpress itself?

thx

Hi!

No, we don't have such a template at the moment. However I found some useful plugins: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-sitemap/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-sitemap-page/

Best regards,

Hi,

Please make a backup copy, and open up template-archives.php located at the root of the theme, and find line 150,

which looks like

wp_list_pages('title_li=&depth=-1' );

and change it to look like

wp_list_pages('title_li=&depth=-1&exclude=1,2,3,4,5' );

**Please replace 1,2,3,4,5 with the page ID's that you want to *exclude* from your sitemap, there is no limit but they must all be pages.

Hi colorit2,

Try changing the h1 class to use double quotes instead.

Other than this though, I think you may need to look into a hiring a web developer as this is a bit beyond what we should typically handle via support.

Bug fixing custom changes is a bit to particular and if others try following the same threads it can cause issues where the code isn't fully explained or fleshed out.

this is quite inconvenient, sorry, isn't there a possibility to exclude within the archive/sitemap template PHP file the IDs of my certain pages, that should not appear in archive/sitemap? I don't know the right syntax, but I'm sure, that there was something like that ...

I just want some, about 5, 6 pages to be excluded only from sitemap/archive, no posts, no categories, just pages.

Hi,

Well, you can view source on the sitemap that you don't like, copy it to notepad, remove the links you don't want and paste it into a regular page.

Another option that's even easier, would be to add a custom meta field called 'exclude' with value of 1 to pages and posts you want to exclude and on the page that generates the sitemap to prevent any post/page from being displayed that has exclude=1 metafield value. You only want to block pages and posts right? or categories, tags, custom taxonomies and post types too?

Thanks,

thanks, but this is no alternative, to set them to private, because these pages have their own sense, but need not to be accessible by a sitemap, for example my comment-subscription page, where the user can manage his subscriptions; this as "stand-alone-page" shown in the sitemap is not good. As well as I don't want to show the Impressum page explicitely in the sitemap or any advertising page.

If there is no plugin, is there a possibility in the archive/sitemap, to "hardcode", to exclude special page IDs from the sitemap/archive?
The old "Advanced Category excluder" was perfect for pages, too, but it is too old and doesn't work with CORONA.

Hi,

I took a look and can't seem to find a plugin with that functionality.

Why don't you just make the pages you don't want on the sitemap Private? This way people who know the URL can still get to the pages but they will no longer be listed on the sitemap nor in navigation (since you don't want them in sitemap then I guess you wouldn't want them in navigation either).

Thanks,

thanks, Mya, but unfortunately, this has no effect.

Hi,

In the code shown on pastie.org, you're missing a semi-colon after the get_permalink.

You have this:

<?php echo get_permalink() ?>

And it should be this:

<?php echo get_permalink(); ?>

Try that and see if it corrects the issue.

Hi colorit2,

The Sitemap on the demo site only uses 'Archives' as its template and doesn't have the ability to filter pages to be excluded from the sitemap. Let me tag the rest of the support, as the only thing I recommend to you now is using that plugin.

Thanks, but as far as I have understood here, I can create with it my own sitemap for example.
But I won't get lost of the good template from CORONA, showing the archive/sitemap like in the demo here and won't "hardcode" the theme files for every page I would like to exclude.

Any other suggestions of someone?

Thanks, Peter.

But the problems remains the same; I'm not really sure, if I have changed the code right, because my PHP is still a "try&error" play ;-)

It looks like the first screenshot above.

Here a Screenshot with Firebug (my site is still offline):

1. there is a strange code part after the alt tag:
'=""

2. the img src tag is not closed and conflicts in some way with the Permanent Link thing ...

The code within my loop-index.php is now this, perhaps I have made some mistakes with these changes?

should be like this:

title="<?php printf( esc_attr__( 'Permalink to %s', 'your-text-domain'
), the_title_attribute( 'echo=0' ) ); ?>"

But within this I haven't the part for the "avia_framework functionality".

Could you please let me know, how to write this part of code for the loop-index.php in this case?

Thanks a lot, appreciate!

Hi,

how can I exclude certain pages, categories and/or tags from the archive/sitemap?

Can I do this in - what - theme file and which with code?

Or can you recommend a good plugin for this?
The "Simply Exclude" plugin, that I have, can only exclude a page from "search" and from "Pages - Widget".

Thanks a lot.

I've disabled all my plugins and then re-activated one by another and ... tatataa ... it's actually caused by a paid plugin "Content Reloaded" from Codecanyon.

:-( Will contact the author of it.

Hi,

I don't know, what went wrong, but there seems to be some wrong characters within my code. I don't know, where I have changed what :-(

Could you please let me know the file names, where I need to take a look to correct this?

At my sitemap/archive page it shows me this:

Firebug shows some weird code for this part:

The source code of this site, shown in browser:
http://pastie.org/5083938

When I take a look at the loop-index.php file, I cannot figure out what may be wrong:

<h1 class='post-title'>
" rel="bookmark" title="<?php _e('Permanent Link:','avia_framework')?> <?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?>
</h1>

Looks quite normal? Is there another file that could cause this error?

My site is currently the same as the demo site here.

My site cannot go online, sorry, but hope this helps. Just need to know the file names, where I can check this.

Thanks.

I think you need to use at least 4.0 Beta of the sitemap plugin because previous version don't support custom post types (= portfolio entries). To be honest I did not notice weird sitemap results with yoast yet but maybe it just occurs in certain, complex setups.

Update:

Ive just check the settings of my plugin. Well, as i`ve said i have nothing in my Portfolio, so its hard to test,
but on the settings page of thea plugin, there is a "checkbox" menu:

"Custom post types:
(ON\OFF) - Include custom post type Avia Framework
(ON\OFF) - IInclude custom post type Portfolio Items"

So, at least, the plugin DID already "see" the portfolio items....
Thats a good sign imho.

What`s you plugin btw?

If you you internal "Sitewmaps" setting of "SEO by Yoast" plugin, i suggest you to stop use it. Because in all the greatness of Yoast plugin (which i use all the time), it`s "sitemap" part seem to be quite buggy and miss a lot of flexibility and settings onto it. In other words - its crap.

As for me, i use this combo: Yoas SEO (for SEO purpose, but with "Sitemaps" turned OFF) + "Google XML Sitemaps" plugins for the sitemps managing purpose.

links are here:

1) http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/#utm_source=wpadmin&utm_medium=plugin&utm_campaign=wpseoplugin
2) http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/

Unfortunetelly i can`t tell you if Portfolio will work on that combo. The reason here is that i dont use "Portfolio" on my website at all. But, im absolutelly sure that provided Sitemaps Plugin can "grab" 99% of your website into the actuall sitemap - if you configure it correctly (lots of settings there!!)

Hope that will help ya!

Thanks.

So I infer that they could/should show up. I will work this issue from the plugin side.

Thanks,
