The purpose of having a lightbox even if there is only one photo is to prevent the website visitor from having to load images directly, since the only way to leave such a page would be by clicking the back button on the browser. So if you had a 2000px x 1000px image, it opens up in the lightbox. My solution was to delete the photographs from my media library and re-upload them.
