Hi guys,

Great theme, love it. I tried using the instructions from this support thread of a year ago to sort posts from oldest-first (while keeping the default newest-first ordering in the blog main page):

http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/how-to-sort-by-older-posts-from-older-to-newer-posts-possible

That is, edit archive.php by adding:

`query_posts($query_string . '&order=ASC');'

But nothing I have tried works. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Melissa,

I'm not really understanding what you mean. If I go to a Portfolio item in Eunoia and use the themes gallery function in the meta boxes below the visual editor, the drag and drop function for the sorting of those items is the only possible way but is not related to Wordpress core as its a completely independent.

If I add a gallery through the wordpress Add Media>Create Gallery the options there are identical to on a installation of Wordpress using Twenty Twelve doing Add Media>Create Gallery.

From your screenshot it actually appears as if that is the old media manager or maybe I'm just not getting there via the same steps. But here is a video to illustrate what I'm doing and maybe it can clear things up: http://www.screenr.com/3q37

Hey Kriesi,

I need Image Sort Order capabilities within a single portfolio. The features that are standard with every WP standard install, as in this screen capture:

http://quetzalphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Sort-Order.png

It's alive in your image management screen, it just doesn't function. My client's theme is Eunoia.

I know this has been asked before, once by me, and at least thrice more that I can find in these threads...

http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/photographer-questions
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/images-within-featured-media-slideshows-not-sortable-by-descending-ascending
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/order-if-images-in-gallery-not-updating

I'd like to plead once more...

I know you believe that this feature isn't important because most of your clients have small galleries/portfolios and that the drag and drop feature should be sufficient for image "sort order". But for those of us who use this standard Wordpress Feature in other blogs, not having it in your themes is such a bummer, especially when we're dealing with client slideshows of more than 50 - 200+ images.

Can someone please advise on a fix?

Please? Please. PLEASE???????

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi dishdesigner,

I'll tag Kriesi on the idea of adding a button for changing the order of the slideshow but typically users don't have so many images in one where it wouldn't be practical to just drag and drop so it hasn't been requested yet as far as I know.

One update on this topic:

The behavior of the pop-up window for adding images to galleries has changed in WP 3.5 and up. Now, there is a new "Add to Slideshow" button underneath the "Actions" column (where there used to be a sort order number to the left of the "Show" link to expand the item in the list....)

Even if you can't get the sort order to work correctly when clicking "Add all images to slideshow," you CAN at least click the "Add to Slideshow" button to the right of every image in the list manually and add them one at a time to the slideshow in either order you wish......you can click those buttons from the bottom up or top down in the list.

At least that's a lot faster than dragging and dropping the images in the slideshow list after they've been added, but still not ideal....
:-)

I'm using the Choices theme and WP 3.5, and I'm having the same issues as in this closed post:
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/order-if-images-in-gallery-not-updating

When you have a slideshow with many images in it, it is simply not practical to order the images by dragging and dropping every one of them!

Is there any way to get the sorting buttons labeled "Sort Order: Ascending | Descending | Clear" in the Gallery tab of the "Add image to slideshow" popup window to actually work?

The only thing I can think of as a workaround would be to use an image management program (like Adobe Bridge) to rename all of the images you want to upload into a slideshow using numeric suffixes (image-01, image-02, etc.), but to number them in REVERSE order before dragging and dropping onto the "From Computer" tab......

Obviously, this is not a desirable workflow! Users would then need to rename all of those images to something useful because those filenames appear in the theme. And if you've ever tried to rename 50+ files in a slideshow by clicking "All Tabs: Show" and expanding each image entry in the list to manually rename them all in Wordpress, you will know how time consuming this is!

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi,

Open includes > helper-template-logic.php and find this code

$avia_config['new_query'] = array(	'orderby' => 'ID',
 'order' => 'ASC',
 'paged' => get_query_var( 'paged' ),
 'posts_per_page' => $itemcount,
 'tax_query' => array( array( 'taxonomy' => 'portfolio_entries',
 'field' => 'id',
 'terms' => $terms,
 'operator' => 'IN')));

You can replace the orderby parameter to date then the order to either DESC or ASC, something like this

$avia_config['new_query'] = array(	'orderby' => 'date',
 'order' => 'DESC',
 'paged' => get_query_var( 'paged' ),
 'posts_per_page' => $itemcount,
 'tax_query' => array( array( 'taxonomy' => 'portfolio_entries',
 'field' => 'id',
 'terms' => $terms,
 'operator' => 'IN')));

Or just change the order parameter to DESC.

Hi, whenever I post a new item in the portfolio section it appears at the end of the list. Since I want people to be able to see our new stock easily this is obviously not ideal. I have tried changing the date to be very old in case it is sorting in reverse date order but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Please help me to fix this asap, I love your work (our site used to use display), but this is very frustrating and my boss is becoming upset that I can't find a resolution.

Hi dearlizzy,

Try to open wp-content\themes\habitat\framework\helper_functions\lots_of_small_helpers.php and find this line of code:

echo "<li $current><a href='".get_settings('home')."'>Home</a></li>";

Replace it with:

//echo "<li $current><a href='".get_settings('home')."'>Home</a></li>";

How do I add portfolios to a Page?

thanks!

Hi,

I am very sorry for the delay, entirely my fault. Overlooked your name in the list.

1) to have a custom order to the portfolio when it loads up, please read my answer here which shows the plugin to use http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/portfolio-icon-hover-%C2%ABportfolio-greyscale-overlay%C2%BB#post-84356

2) Your sorting option do not display since there is only 1 item in the portfolio. Please add a second item.

3) I recommend you download this plugin - Simple Image Sizes plugin ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-image-sizes/ ) - which will allow you full control over your images right from the admin media page, as well as cropping them and regenerating them. since if you only change the number on the Media page, only new images will come out in the new size, the old one will have to be regenerated. the plugin will allow you to do that. Also when you upload images, there are a number of radio buttons which offer to dynamically crop images to different sizes. Make sure you are picking the size you want.

I am not sure about your other questions, please provide a link to the specific page where the problem is taking place.

Thanks,

Nick

Hey jeffunity,

For the sorting, check the Frontpage template in your template builder and expand the options for the Portfolio. There should be options to control that portfolio there instead of in the theme options.

The portfolio won't crop your images by default to keep the portfolio all exactly aligned. Its set to just shrink them down to the width and let the height adjust proportionally. To change this, open your functions.php in your theme files and look for:

$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio'] = array('width'=>448, 'height'=>330 ); // images for portfolio entries (2,3 column)

Change it to:

$avia_config['imgSize']['portfolio'] = array('width'=>448, 'height'=>330, 'crop'=>true); // images for portfolio entries (2,3 column)

Save the file then use this plugin to regenerate your thumbnails: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

I've sent an email to the head of support re the sorting issue and will update once I hear back.

Regards,

hi, I'm using flagship and I am having a number of issues with portfolios:

portfolio sort options not displaying - even when box is checked

portfolio posts with portrait image displaying full height image in preview - breaking alignment and coming out of box

new portfolio posts appearing at end of portfolio and sort order reversed - oldest posts are first not last

Thank you, Mya :) Confirming it is all fixed now.

Was just bringing up my extra query regarding the forums setup again, just in case:

Also wondering where I can read information about setting up the forum? There isn't anything in the documentation regarding it and it isn't clear how to, after installing bbPress.

Thanks :)

Issue resolved. For those who read this, the problem was defining the Homepage and Blogpage via Settings > Reading and not through Choices > Theme Options.
