The sidebar (Blog Archives) is taking in the space for the blog page. You can remove this sidebar if you'd like so the blog can be wider. Or you can just make the sidebar less wide. To adjust these widths you can open your style.css file and change the width value of the following lines:

#content, .entry-no-pic .entry-content

#top .fullwidth_sidebar

.news-right

the last one is the width of your actual pos, but you need to change the other two in order to keep your values homologous.
Keep in mind this might alter other pages too that use the same page template.

The blog page defaults to about 540px width here: http://sandbox.integrativemgi.com/2011/08/29/newsletter-july-2011/#airport-screening

Sorry, posted wrong code above. My solution was as follows:

1. created a custom field called link_to
2. changed line 43 in index.php from the_permalink() to echo get_post_meta($post->ID, 'link_to', true)

Hey,
You could use custom fields and the get post meta function: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_post_meta to enter a custom link per post.

Having the ability to link homepage slider posts (or pages) to posts or pages other than themselves would greatly improve the usability of the sliders. It would enable custom titles and blurbs for each featured item, instead of being limited to the featured post title and excerpted content as they are now.

In attempting to model a solution, I replaced line 43 of index.php with an absolute link.

In other words, replacing href=/"< ?php the_permalink(); ? with mysite.com/otherpost/.

It worked as far as linking slider posts to a different post (or page), but of course now all posts point to a single link.

To make this solution workable, Is it possible to replacethe_permalink with the name of the field on the post edit screen Full Size Pic or Video for Lightbox (Image and Video Links allowed )? This would enable the link to be easily maintainable for each slider post within the post edit function.

I created an Extra Widget Area (called "Category:News left") to be exclusively used by our blog page. The blog page has a category = NEWS.

I added the Tag Cloud and Newscast Advertising widgets to this Extra Widget Area.

Category "News" is excluded from the home page, as are all other categories except one called FEATURED.

The drop down menus are pretty long and for pages with just a little content, the drop down is truncated.

Hardcoded shortcodes have the disadvantage that you need to rewrite or restructure major parts of your content if you decide to switch the theme one day. Plugins like JShortcodes can help you to preserve your content and shortcodes....

Newscast is a fine theme. The fact that you have a searchable forum and active support is another big plus. The one thing that seemed to be lacking are shortcodes. However, hardcoding shortcodes into themes probably isn't the best approach anyway. By adding JShortcodes plugin to Newscast, the shortcode issue was solved for me.

Not at all. So many people here are helping each other, it just seems like the thing to do.

I consider my suggestion above a hack, since I haven't seen it described in Codex. It's working well for me with the Newscast theme.

However, in an ideal world, I think the Child style.css file should be able to handle everything using @import url(style1.css); placed after the @import url(style.css). For example, it seems logical in a cascading world where the Child style.css should control everything that it would: 1. import and execute style.css, then 2. any mods to style.css, and then 3. import and execute style1.css, and then 4. any mods placed after that. However, the original header.php is executing style1.css (again?*) AFTER it processes the Child. *once during @import in the child and again because of the header <link> stmt.

Maybe the Wordpress developers have something to say about this?

Exactly how to make mods to Child Theme Skin files hasn't been exactly clear in codex and elsewhere. Hopefully this will help:

1. Copy header.php to the Child folder
2. Create a css file to hold your skin mods. e.g. For style1.css call it something like style1M.css
3. Insert the style1M.css <link> statement in the header, immediately after the style1.css <link> statement (around line 36)

That should do it.

as far as I know you don't need to use exactly the same structure but you must set a reference (@include, etc. in your child theme stylesheet).

Hi there,
I am successfully using child theming to make my modifications to the Display theme. However, if I want to have my own copy of style2.css, so my changes don't change the original, I have two questions:

1. does my child style2.css file have to be in a similar directory structure inside my child theme folder, or can it just be in the same child theme directory as my version of style.css?

2. Does my style2.css need to IMPORT the original style2.css?

Hope I'm making sense. Let me know if you need clarification.
Thanks!

Hey,
the toggle shortcode is part of Avisio, Habitat and CleanCut. Newscast doesn't provide any theme specific shortcodes. It's currently not possible to transfer the shortcodes from one theme to another without some coding knowledge.

Hi,
I have purchased a few of your themes and noticed that some have toggle shortcode available. Does this theme have it? I really need it for this theme. OR can you recommend what files I could use to put it in this theme?
Thanks
Karen

I cannot answer your question but what you have done with the theme is amazing to me. It is probably simple how you setup the part describing the designer, mind sharing how you did that. My main use of the theme will be a blog and that would be a great way to lead
people to the blog part of the site.

Great looking and really cool looking clothes and shoes as well. Too bad she does not design things for men as well.

thanks
