Hi,

Glad Devin could help.

You can also edit includes > loop-index.php and find this code

$current_post['content'] = get_the_content(__('Read more','avia_framework').'<span class="more-link-arrow"> →</span>');

Replace it with

$current_post['content'] = the_content(__('Read more','avia_framework').'<span class="more-link-arrow"> →</span>');

Great! Thanks Devin. I wasn't sure if it was a WordPres issue or a theme-specific one.

Hi hutzelm,

You can use the more tag to tell the theme where to break a post for display on summary pages. See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Regards,

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to only display a summary of blog posts on the "Posts" page? I've checked the Settings tab, but the only place where I can choose to display a summary of the post is when it appears in an RSS feed. For people browsing, some of our posts may seem too long and can make them lose interest. How can I get a summary of the post to display when people land on the "Posts" page?

Thanks

Hi DIntel108,

Just so you know the Settings > Readings > "For each article in a feed" does not apply to the Blog page itself neither does the Settings > Writing > Size of the post box. "For each article in a feed" applies to your RSS feed. "Size of the post box" refers to how large the textbox you type in under Posts > Add New or Pages > Add New will be.

Now to change the excerpt length follow these instructions from this thread.
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/short-text-on-the-blog-page#post-35269

You'll of course want to use a large number like 300 or 500 depending on how long your posts are.

As far as the <!--more tag--> not working. Make sure you are not entering <!--more tag--> in the Visual editor. The Visual editor (the default tab) will read it as text not HTML. Instead you want to click the "Insert More Tag" icon or use the shortcut ALT + Shift + T. The icon is the 12th icon from the left next to the link icons.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

I would like to have the entire blog appearing in the Blog view, and if I prefer so use the <!--more--> to shorten the view. But not only I have not managed to have the full length appear in the blog, but the <!--more--> is also not working. I have checked full length under "settings/reading/For each article in a feed, show" and I have put to 2000 "settings/writing/Size of the post box". still nothing to do, I only have a short summary and especially not the picture gallery...

Hi there

This doesn't work if you use the template builder.

I want to have some text at the top of a page and then the blog entries for a certain category listed below. It loets me add in the 'blog' element and allows me to choose the category but the whole article shows and this is huge. I only really want the same as you'd get if you looked at a category list.

Any ideas on how I could limit how much of each article shows when using the blog element?

Thanks!

Hey,
you can use the read more tag/quicktag to mark the excerpt: http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_the_Read_More#The_Excerpt_Basics

Use it like:

and I told him that he should get moving or I'd be
on him like a limpet. He looked at me with shock on
his face and said

<!--more-->

more content....

My website is allenjcochran.com. I have an external blog that currently paginates correctly BUT, it shows full entries rather than summaries. I'd like it to show short summaries of the blog posts rather than the entire thing.

Can someone tell me how to change my settings to make this happen?
