Hi Dude, one last question about WPML integration in Enfold,

I will "widgetize" the Logo in order to display a different graphic for every language, so I really don't need to repeat every bit of customization over and over again for every language.. Multilingual theme options is a great feature, but all I need is to change the graphic for the Logo - everything else will be consistent across languages.

Kindly provide a solution, cause the client asked for 5 languages... Preferably a.. php one :)

thx

Thanks Dude for the prompt and detailed response,

I was planning to comment out "require_once( 'config-wpml/config.php' );" in functions.php, but it won't make any difference, as you 've pointed out. I intent to open a new thread at wpml.org about the insane amount of requests that WPML produces with Enfold...

Check out (at the bottom left footer..) this empty page - http://goo.gl/ehur4 - it makes 116 queries with almost no content.

FYI Enfold - without WPML activated - produces less than 50..

Thanks again for your response, I will follow your suggestion.

Yes, Enfold uses a special config file (located in wp-content\themes\enfold\config-wpml) which is required to use all theme features with WPML. Without the config.php file the portfolio custom post type won't translate properly and you can't set different theme options for different languages (which is necessary if you want to set a different logo, etc. for each language). The config file itself doesn't "break" Polylang for sure but the main problem is that our theme isn't "prepared" for Polylang. All translation plugins require hooks (actions or filters) and translation functions to manipulate the query or output based on the current selected language and imo Polylang won't work without some theme code adjustments. There's no need to turn existing code "off" because it won't be executed anyway if WPML isn't installed/activated but you'd need to "add" new code which integrates Polylang into Enfold. That said I'd stick with WPML because we can't help you with polylang, qtranslate or other translation plugins out there.

Hi Kriesi,

Great theme, I'm sure it will feature first at Themeforest very soon.. Worked with a dozen themes - so far never seen something quite like it. I'm impressed.!

Although I've used WPML in the past - still using it in some projects - it seems that it doubles (sometimes triple..) the database queries, for no apparent reason. This happens only with the Enfold theme.

I've tried a free plugin - called Polylang - which works great and it's extremely lightweight, but for some reason both original and translated posts, portfolio items, etc are not displayed (even though the categories are selectable through the page builder).

Is Enfold built with WPML dependencies and if this is the case is there a way to " turn them off " so that I can use another plugin?

thx

Personally I'd use a po file to translate the plugin (default.po can be found in the replete/lang/ folder or use codestyling: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/ to translate the theme. If you really want to hardcode the text open up wp-content\themes\replete\config-woocommerce\config.php and search for:

$output .= "<li class='$current account_overview_link'><a href='".$url['account_overview']."'>".__('My Account', 'avia_framework')."</a>";

Personally I didn't try to generate the po file with codestyling but I'd suggest to rename default.po to ru_RU.po - then you should be able to translate the file without generating a new/separate po file.

Edit: Ok, I found the culprit. Codestyling (automatically) uses the first po file. However in this case it's the po file in enfold\config-layerslider\LayerSlider\languages\ which is useless. Delete it and the select the enfold/lang folder as translation target. We'll include a proper enfold.pot and de_De.po/mo in the next theme version or you can download the pot file from mediafire (link in first post).

Hi again,
I have just downloaded the plugin "codestyling-localization.1.99.30" for creating and translation of PO/MO files directly from WP admin panel. The plagin reports errors that prevent the theme from translating:
"Error: The actual loaded translation content does not match the textdomain: avia_framework
Expect, that any text you translate will not occure as long as the textdomain is mismatching!
This is a coding issue at the source files you try to translate, please contact the original Author and explain this mismatch.

Warning: The actual loaded translation content contains mixed textdomains and is not pure translateable within one textdomain.
It seems, that there is code contained extracted out of other plugins, themes or widgets and used by copy & paste inside some source files.

Has the theme was tested with this plugin, or there is an error in actions from my part or I should proceed in a different way to translated the theme ? Thank you in advance.

I need to translate the theme onto Russian, but only the front part for website visitors, keeping the back part original. Is it indicated in PO file such difference ? (I may provide you then the _RU version with the front part translated.)

You need to generate the mo file (compiled version of the po file which is used by WP to translate the text strings). I could find the po file on your server: http://www.fengshuimb.com/wp-content/themes/choices/lang/es_ES.po but not the mo file http://www.fengshuimb.com/wp-content/themes/choices/lang/es_ES.mo

in the file "format-standard.php" on line 83
replace the code

echo '<span class="blog-author minor-meta"> '.__('by','avia_framework');

with this code

echo '<span class="blog-author minor-meta"> '.__('by ','avia_framework');

the space after "by" was missing. It is in all other format-*.php files (gallery, link, quote)

Please put that in the next version so we do not have to fix it again. Cheers

Ok, I started to work on the German translation. Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?n4uaq56a3x51nhc - if anyone wants to help me please use this file as a starting point, translate some of the remaining text string and post a link to your version. I'll then merge the files and post a link which contains all translated text strings.

Update : 06.05.2013 - translated more strings (~40%)

Enfold introduces a new template builder and many new text strings. If you want to translate Enfold (or if you've already started to translate it) please share your work with the other users. It's a win-win situation for everyone because
1) we'll include your translation in the next theme update and you don't need to take care of it when you update the theme folder
2) other users can suggest improvements and check your translation (spelling errors, typos, etc.)
3) Other users can work on unfinished translations if you don't want to translate all strings
4) other users don't need to translate the same text strings over and over again

I uploaded the latest version of enfold.pot here: http://www.mediafire.com/?3d6hhhxy3dihf1z

Please use Poedit: http://www.poedit.net/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/ to translate it and save it with the right language identification code (i.e. German users must use de_DE and Poedit will generate a de_DE.po and de_DE.mo file. A list of all languages can be found here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language ). You need to upload the mo & po files into the wp-content/themes/enfold/lang/ folder.

You can use http://mediafire.com/ or any other hoster to upload the po & mo files. Then post a link to these files in this thread.

I don't expect "perfect translation files" which translate 100% of all text strings, etc - please share your files even if they just translate parts of the theme because other users can use these "unfinished" files as a starting point for their translations and can submit the finished version, etc.
