I don´t think it's described very clearly how you update the theme.
I have the 1.3 version up and running, and I watn to update to 1.4
But how do I do that? Can I just install the theme, or do I have to ftp?
What about all the changes I made to the theme, like colors, layersliders, footers etc.?

Maybe you should make a short guide

I don't ever recommend updating major components of a site if the site is already live. I tend to wait a month or so before doing a big update like that and even then on a development server first.

Since you are on a development server you could do so now without issue. There are however a handful of bugs getting worked on right now for Replete so not everything is back up to perfect quite yet.

Our bug thread: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/replete-woocommerce-20-bug-thread#post-100918

Hi Devin,

you said: "S...for right now I would suggest just not updating to 2.0 just yet anyway."
Why?
I did it, because it is yet a development site and I do want deploy major upgrades before I go live with it

Hi MtnStreamGroup,

I don't know what you mean. Basic updates are done as I've laid out above (for any theme not hosted on wordpress.org).

If you've modified the theme files, you can either do a backup of all of those pages and just install the most recent update completely (re-adding your changes afterwards) or try updating only those files mentioned in the version.txt file that comes in the main package from themeforest.

Regards,

I can't find any information about updating the Abundance theme, especially after making edits to CSS and theme options and adding several social media icons via the source code because the social media networks weren't in the theme editor.

Hi Tom,

Sure thing, for right now I would suggest just not updating to 2.0 just yet anyway.

Typically however, you updated in the exact same way you first installed the theme. You download the files from your Downloads on themeforest, then unzip that big file so that you have the folder with the license, version and other files. There will also be the replete.zip file which is the actual theme.

You just choose to install the theme from the wordpress admin just like you did the first time and will overwrite the current them. If it isn't able to, the permissions on your server are set in such a way that overwriting folders is not allowed from within wordpress. You can either ask your host to change it for you, to direct you in changing it or just update the theme via FTP.

For FTP, you unzip the theme folder so that its the replete folder with the theme files inside it. There will probably also be an OSX folder that can be deleted as it just contains information for Macs and isn't needed on the server. You then connect to the server via FTP, navigate to your themes folder and drag and drop the updated replete folder on top of the replete theme folder on your server.

You only need to make backups if you edited the actual theme files themselves.

Regards,

Hi,

as I'm not an pro user, I'd like to see a step-by-step tutorial on updating woo2 and replete theme.
As it appears to me, I can only uninstall the replete theme and reinstall the new version - there's no theme update option found in WP
So all changes I done on replete I have to redo as well...

Any tut for dummies on the way???

Hi Guys,

Go ahead and install and activate BBPress for now. It shouldn't effect anything but it looks like the code that is used to give the popup for recommended plugins is having some issues with the updates.

Just installing and activating it should fix the issue until Kriesi can release a fix.

Hi,

Yes, i see the problem, there is a broken tag at the very begining of the rss content. Looking at the page the break is caused by one of your plugins giving a 404 error - Tweetmeme

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404

(TweetMeme button shutdown) http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js

Would you please update or disable the plugin and see if the problem goes away. Also it looks like your w3 total cache plugin is not functioning correctly since its not minimizing the content while comment on bottom of source says it is. Perhaps once that twitter plugin starts working everything will fall back into place.

Thanks,

Hi, I have been updating the Propulsion theme from version 1.2.1 to the latest version, going folder by folder instead of all at once just to be careful of any changes I might have made... all updated fine so far except for the functions.php file. When I update to the new file all blog archives are inaccessible and so are drop-down menu pages. Error given is:

Warning: require_once(config-wpml/config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/..../wp-content/themes/propulsion/functions.php on line 19
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'config-wpml/config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/...../wp-content/themes/propulsion/functions.php on line 19

What have I done?! Any ideas? I am fairly new at this so any direction would be great...
I have put the old functions.php back in place for the time being and everything works fine, so it's not urgent, but I'd like to be able to update fully...

I think the only other files I haven't updated yet are single.php and footer.php - that wouldn't make a difference would it?
thanks in advance,
jo

Hi LEKelly,

There were a number of fixes in the last update so I would suggest, if you can, upload the new theme files on top the old ones via FTP. The fix isn't css related so a quick copy and paste wouldn't fix it.

You can download the custom.css file and re-upload the file after the update to make sure any css changes present are added once again.

Regards,

I just wondered if instead of all the backing up and theme updating, maybe it's possible for me just to add some custom css coding to my current theme to make the cufon rollovers show up? If so, can you share what that custom css would be? If not, I'll try the updating and overwriting, with fingers crossed. Thanks.
