Hi,

Problem is that I have nothing to test this with but I still say that the plugin that generates a gif image every few seconds looks mighty suspicious. Also you are missing an image in the lightbox (next image) that is throwing an error. http://michaellungren.com/wp-content/themes/velvet/images/prettyPhoto/light_rounded/btnNext.png <--missing image. I am installing an emulator to attempt to see it that way.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8hqGBMSfHtKb2dsLUpYVFJYeUU/edit?usp=sharing you can take a look at the images being generated, made a screen cast since it was a bit unusual.

Thanks,

Hi,

For some reason you have a gif image that is encoded in base64 being endlessly generated over and over again every 10 seconds by portfolio-slideshow plugin. This specific file that generates it: ( <script type="text/javascript" src="http://michaellungren.com/wp-content/plugins/portfolio-slideshow/js/portfolio-slideshow.min.js?ver=1.5.1"></script> ) The version of the script you are using is 1.03 , despite the file claiming its 1.51.. while the current version is 2.11 ( https://github.com/desandro/imagesloaded/blob/master/jquery.imagesloaded.js ) Please update this file or the plugin itself and perhaps this problem will be fixed.

Thanks,

I have a problem with the portfolio images in the Velvet theme, when you go to an individual image to get a closer look. I thought this was an iPhone problem but it looks like it is a touch screen problem, because I have a touch screen win8 laptop and it does the same thing.

The problem is when you use the fingers to scale the image the screen or image shoots to the right. I figure it is a code problem but could not find anything and that is why I came here to see if you have seen this problem. Here is the link to the site http://michaellungren.com

Hi,

prettyPhoto is pretty much the standard in lightboxes. The purpose of having a lightbox even if there is only one photo is to prevent the website visitor from having to load images directly, since the only way to leave such a page would be by clicking the back button on the browser. So if you had a 2000px x 1000px image, it opens up in the lightbox. The alternative would be to open it directly, thereby making the session no longer visible to google analytics for example and hurting your seo (google will think visitors spend less time on page than they actually do).

Thanks,

I understand. As you'll see in this picture ( http://imgur.com/dplsInV ), the lightbox displays a thumbnail. I'm not sure of the purpose of it without a lightbox slideshow. I'll figure something else out regarding this point, but is there a way to hide the thumbnail to avoid confusion? I can't isolate it as it disappears when not hovered upon.

Thank you for all your help...

Hi KirinDesign,

prettyPhoto does support linking images together but for Velvet I believe its only set for the thumbnail slideshows. If you can point us to it in the demo that would help. I checked through myself just now since it has been a while and went through my live dev copy but I think Nick is correct in that they don't naturally link on pages.

For some reason all I get is a slider. I would like the user to be able to see the (large) thumbnails, then, when clicked, enter into the lightbox and be able to slide between photos w/o leaving. I could have sworn there was a way to do so...

I've gone in circles trying to figure this out. I have one (Velvet) portfolio category going to one page to display in four columns. All the photos are set to display as lightbox. When the lightbox opens, only one thumbnail displays at the bottom of the photo, with no navigation. I would like all the photos to link into a lightbox slideshow, as seen in Choices and other themes. What's wrong?

Can you illustrate what you are trying to do with an image? I'm not completely clear on the description but from the sound of it, that would be a fairly significant change and would require a freelance developer to do the customization.

Hi,

a zip of a child theme for Velvet. Just add it as you would any normal theme. If you are having a problem:

1) Is the name of the folder of the parent theme 'velvet'? (capitalization important)
2) In the parent style.css , is the theme name Velvet?

The child style.css file just 3 lines are required (lines 2,5, and 11 of stle.css inside the zip file). All other lines are optional, so you can fill them out how you want. You can also just delete the optional lines.

okay, really embarrassingly dumb question, but just to be clear...where you have, in your example, some-url.com, is that that url for the domain, or the location of the theme, or what? And then for the Author URI, same question..the domain again, or what author's url?

Hi,

1) Make a folder called velvet-child and place it next to velvet theme folder.
2) Create a style.css file inside the velvet-child folder and add the following to it:

/*
Theme Name: Velvet's Child
Description: Child of Velvet
Theme URI: some-url.com
Template: Velvet
Version: 1.0
Author: you
Author URI: http://www.some-url.com
*/

@import url("../velvet/style.css");

Make sure that capitalization and folder name matched import and template lines.so Velvet VelVet would be different.

3) Activate child theme as you would any theme in the backend
4) copy header.php and footer..php and drop them into the child theme folder.

If you want to test if they work. add

<?php echo "123zxy"; ?>

into the header and the footer , and then view source and and do a ctrl-f find for 123zxy.

Hello,

I am trying to modify the header.php and footer.php files using a child theme. None of the changes that I make in the child theme work. When I make those changes to the original files, they work. Do child themes not work in the Velvet theme? I would really like to get this child theme working so that all my changes aren't lost with a theme update.

Hi cloddi,

In your theme files open single.php and then look for:

<!--end content-->

replace it with

<?php

 posts_nav_link();
 previous_post('« % ','Previous', 'no');
 next_post(' % »','Next', 'no');

 ?>
 <!--end content-->

Save the file and that should do it.

Regards,

Hi,

I have set in VELVET's theme options panel a background image:

The path of the image is right. The strange this is, when you click in the purple colour of the background with your second mouse tab and choose "show background" (sorry, I only know the German firefox context menu: "Hintergrundgrafik anzeigen"), it shows you really the right background image - but it is not shown "live" behind the boxed layout.

It is NOT a plugin conflict, because I've tested it with ALL plugins disabled, and this has the same effect.

What can I do to show/see the background image?
I use the newest, downloaded version of VELVET.

Thanks.
