In this case I'd recommend to contact the WPML devs - it seems like WPML can't rewrite the permalink rules on your server and I don't know why it doesn't work. A handful of other users have a similar problem and it it's probably server related.

SAGA continues:
now it seems the same problem is with saving woocomerce settings. If I make some changes in woo commerce settings I get the 404 page not found error in all pages besides shop catalogue. Then I have to to the trick again with with WPML off and save permalinks and WPML on again then its cool. There is no problem with other setting saving beside the woocommerce.

It seems there is some kind a conflict between the WPML _ wp _ and woocommerce.

More..

Hey sigmawebgr,

That is a bit beyond what we can offer via support. It will need to be checked for cross browser compatibility as well as ensure no other issues come up as a result of it.

Your best route is to look into a freelance developer. There are services like Codeable.io and elance where you can quickly hire someone to do the coding for you.

Hi,

When using WPML you need to sync the website for each language. If you create About us for English language then you need to create another one for French. This is an elaborate instruction by Nick for WPML.

http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/callout-translation-wpml

WPML is not the type of plugin that you activate and it takes care of everything else. You need to first set it up and configure it. Also you are aware that there are multiple versions of the plugin (cms & blog) with completely different functionality? Which version are you currently using? Is your site being setup as a blog or a cms?
Please refer to the http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/
1) After you activate the plugin, you click the configure link right under its name in the Plugin section of the backend. You select the current language, the languages which you wish to translate into, then you select the language switcher options that suits your website, and click Finish.
2) Now on top of the backend you see the language dropdown box showing the root language of the site - English lets say, and I selected Spanish as the translation( for this example). You now have two completely different backends in your site which are *independent of one another*, an English and a Spanish. So you first create a home page, or a portfolio page,or any page in English backend and save it. Then you use the language dropdown box on top in the backend to switch to the Spanish version of the backend , and *re-create* or import etc.. the Spanish versions of your English pages. You will notice in the backend the menu link 'Flagship' will become 'Flagship EN' and will change to 'Flagship ES' when you use the dropdown to enter the various versions.
So, to answer your question. , If you have an English (root) template which you applied to a page you designated as your homepage. you would switch to Spanish (or your language choice) . But you would *NOT* see those templates nor the pages you just made because those are in the 'English backend'. You would have to recreate them all over in the Spanish version. Then create a new Spanish page, apply the Spanish homepage template to it, and link it to the English home page via the dropdown in the Add Page or Add Post pages.
If you've done all the above, and linked the translated version to the root version of the page and still are not seeing anything, please try re-installing the plugin and do speak to the WPML support staff and I am certain between the two support teams we will get you running smoothly.

Cheers,
Ismael

Hi Dude, one last question about WPML integration in Enfold,

I will "widgetize" the Logo in order to display a different graphic for every language, so I really don't need to repeat every bit of customization over and over again for every language.. Multilingual theme options is a great feature, but all I need is to change the graphic for the Logo - everything else will be consistent across languages.

Kindly provide a solution, cause the client asked for 5 languages... Preferably a.. php one :)

thx

Thanks Dude for the prompt and detailed response,

I was planning to comment out "require_once( 'config-wpml/config.php' );" in functions.php, but it won't make any difference, as you 've pointed out. I intent to open a new thread at wpml.org about the insane amount of requests that WPML produces with Enfold...

Check out (at the bottom left footer..) this empty page - http://goo.gl/ehur4 - it makes 116 queries with almost no content.

FYI Enfold - without WPML activated - produces less than 50..

Thanks again for your response, I will follow your suggestion.

Yes, Enfold uses a special config file (located in wp-content\themes\enfold\config-wpml) which is required to use all theme features with WPML. Without the config.php file the portfolio custom post type won't translate properly and you can't set different theme options for different languages (which is necessary if you want to set a different logo, etc. for each language). The config file itself doesn't "break" Polylang for sure but the main problem is that our theme isn't "prepared" for Polylang. All translation plugins require hooks (actions or filters) and translation functions to manipulate the query or output based on the current selected language and imo Polylang won't work without some theme code adjustments. There's no need to turn existing code "off" because it won't be executed anyway if WPML isn't installed/activated but you'd need to "add" new code which integrates Polylang into Enfold. That said I'd stick with WPML because we can't help you with polylang, qtranslate or other translation plugins out there.

Hi Kriesi,

Great theme, I'm sure it will feature first at Themeforest very soon.. Worked with a dozen themes - so far never seen something quite like it. I'm impressed.!

Although I've used WPML in the past - still using it in some projects - it seems that it doubles (sometimes triple..) the database queries, for no apparent reason. This happens only with the Enfold theme.

I've tried a free plugin - called Polylang - which works great and it's extremely lightweight, but for some reason both original and translated posts, portfolio items, etc are not displayed (even though the categories are selectable through the page builder).

Is Enfold built with WPML dependencies and if this is the case is there a way to " turn them off " so that I can use another plugin?

thx

Hi Berza,

No, not as far as I know. They used to use the same data but Kriesi found that it created unreliable translations and the best way to solve it was to create duplicates for each language that can be customized as needed.

Its an extra step of work but one that is the best solution and removes the larger issues that would be created otherwise.

Hello,

Is there a way to have the WPML plugin sync the "Featured Media" for portfolio items among different translations?
At the moment, I have to set all the featured images (for the portfolio slideshow) twice: once for the "original" article, and another time for the translated article, that should be a perfect copy of the first one except for body text (I already have all the original and translated titles and body texts, just need to set up the featured media).

Similarly, I'd also like to be able to sync the "portfolio meta information" (e.g. skills needed, client and project url in the sample site) among translations, or maybe just copy the values in the original post to the translation, so that I can have a "placeholder text" to translate manually..

I tried with the WPML Media Translation plugin, but I suspect it does something different.. or anyway it could be able to sync WordPress' default featured images that are replaced by Flagship's "featured media"..

Hi!

Are you using WPML? Create a separate cart page for English and Swedish language. Also, try to edit the submenus for each language.

Hello,
I'm using Propulsion and WooCommerce in two languages, Swedish and English.
My problem is that Cart in the topmenu links to the the swedish Cart (Varukorg). The drop down also shows in swedish probably because the Cart links to the swedish version.

How do I change that?

Regards

You can try to set the file permissions of the htaccess to 0444 - then wordpress can't rewrite the rules. I'm not sure if this will fix the issue though because the slug rules rewrite rules are stored in the database.

Afaik this won't work. You need to use the same language for wp and the theme. Use es_ES for WordPress and the theme or use ca for both: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Catalan_-_Catal.C3.A0_.28ca.29
