Is there a way to make sure that vertical and square images are treated the same way as horizontal images (retaining the aspect ratio of the original image)? Just change the width and height and save the file. Then use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to regenereate the images. I changed the size of the thumbnails in wordpress itself and used the resize-thumbnails plugin, but the size of the thumbs didn't change.
