I'll try the plugins you recommended, thank you. But it sounds like I may be a bit stuck, given that blog posts and portfolio items are the same template, right?

Also, I have some other questions:

1. The hover effect isn't working on my main menu. I'm using a custom WP menu, and tried to add the CSS mentioned in another forum post. Still no luck...

2. Can portfolio items and pages have static images as the background, instead of slideshows?

3. I need to place text above the inline slideshow on my portfolio item pages. Again, the fix mentioned in another forum post didn't work for me.

4. The drop cap shortcode I'm using on my gallery pages doesn't appear in the excerpt on portfolio page -- the drop cap letter is just gone.

Thank you in advance for your help! Love this theme.

Best,
Adam

Hey,
you can create page/category widget areas by using the theme option panel or you can use plugins like: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/display-widgets/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-logic/ . It's not easily possible to use different sidebars because this would require different template, new hardcoded widget areas, etc.
