I'm having this same issue with alt tags. I've tried adding them from the media library tab, double-checked alt info is in there but when I check the page source it shows ALT="" and only lists the title tag.

I've tried: adding the image in the page editor, editing the image info I'd added in the page editor using the media library, and as stated above tried to directly add it in the media library and select it from the page editor. None of these work to get the alt tag displayed.

Any advice?

I tested WP3.3beta2 with my plugins and used Kriesis themes (Corona and Abundance) as themes and I didn't noticed a bug (sliders, etc. worked). I didn't test every feature, layout, etc. but I see no reason why css code, etc. should break.

just a note ...

I've just tested 'Add featured media' with WP 3.3 Beta 3 on a local Xampp install and I get all the image Titles and Alt tags as I should, without any problems, even when hovering a small image box after adding featured media I see Title I typed.

I hope Corona will work on official WP 3.3 release without any issues.
Kriesi - Chris - Dude : any testing in progress ? or you're waiting for official release?

Thanks!

Yes, when creating a post, I use 'Add featured media' and no Title or Alt that I typed is saved (the image is there in small box after I click 'Use Image as featured image' and when I hover the image in that small box it also show me just image filename without extension).

After saving post as a Draft or Publishing it, I need to go to Media/Library, edit particular image, add Title and Alt again and 'Update Media'. After that, image Tile and Alt that I typed are there.

Hello,

regarding 2.) Image Title and Alt tags are not saved in database when adding featured media. I need to manually add them from media library

I tried with latest Opera 11.52, latest Firefox 8.0 and Safari 5.0.5 at Windows XP SP3 with all XP updates, latest Flash ... I tried both Flash uplodaer and browser uploader, on local Xampp install and at the live server ... all the same, Title and Alt aren't there when using 'add featured image', even with the fix at class-htmlhelper. at line 418

Hi,
I've just tested above code for 4.) regarding inserting image width and height in image src
Everything works great except for aviacordion on front page, for some reason it pulls 'related' image size for img src ... ImageName-610x270.jpg
By inserting
$image_src = wp_get_attachment_image_src($thumbnail_id, $size);
just after

if(is_array($size))
 {
 $size[0] = $size['width'];
 $size[1] = $size['height'];
 }

and coping below this, code from above post

if(is_array($size))
 {
 $size[0] = $size['width'];
 $size[1] = $size['height'];
 }
 else
 {
 global $avia_config;
 $temp = $avia_config['imgSize'][$size];
 $size = array();
 $size[0] = $temp['width'];
 $size[1] = $temp['height'];
 }

and comment out

//$image_src = wp_get_attachment_image_src($thumbnail_id, $size);

at default location, everything works fine, it look like not a best 'code' solution but it works

Concerning the uploader, I have here
http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/corona-causes-mess-at-ftp-all-uploads-are-in-the-month-order-of-installing-date
posted some screenshots.

Normal upload by MEDIA -> UPLOAD = every image goes in right month folder at FTP

Editing/Creating a page and using the "featured media" uploader at the bottom = every so attached image goes to one and the same folder of that month, when installing CORONA = hundreds of images, that have been uploaded by "featured media"-settings of a page are in one folder at FTP, and that's really a mess.

I'll try 4. for image height and width. It's about Page Speed: Specifying a width and height for all images allows for faster rendering by eliminating the need for unnecessary reflows and repaints. :) I can't help myself :)

2. I'm using Win XP and latest Opera 11.52, I also edited previous post with question regarding 2. ... any chance that has something with PHP version or something similar? Current server : Apache 2.2.21, PHP 5.3.8, MySQL 5.1.56
I'll also try with Firefox

1.) its a technique used to group images of similar use together that is used by a lot of frameworks. to be perfectly honest I am no longer sure if its the best method to store images because of the apparent drawback that images are harder to search if you upload a lot of them. you wont lose any functionality by changing that

2.) unlikely. since there is a lot of javascript involved I would rather guess it could be a browser issue. which browser/os are you using?

3.) Unfortunately I am currently not able to test a https installation, my testserver doesnt seem to support that. Just to clarify: both the default wordpress uploader, as well as the featured image uploader dont work correctly? I performed a google search on the topic and it seems there is a problem with untrusted ssl certificates. Maybe you want to give this plugin a try: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/aarons-no-ssl-flash-upload/

4.) since i dont know what you want to accomplish this is hard to answer. you can of course add height and with manually but I guess thats not an option. you can set the $output = 'image' in the function call to $output = 'url' so the theme returns the url by default. you could then use the url in the frontend and build the images as you see fit.

and last but not least you could do the following:
Change:

if(is_array($size))
 {
 $size[0] = $size['width'];
 $size[1] = $size['height'];
 }

to

if(is_array($size))
 {
 $size[0] = $size['width'];
 $size[1] = $size['height'];
 }
 else
 {
 global $avia_config;
 $temp = $avia_config['imgSize'][$size];
 $size = array();
 $size[0] = $temp['width'];
 $size[1] = $temp['height'];
 }

You can then use $size[0] and $size[1] to add height and width to the output string like this:

img height ='".$size[1]."' width ='".$size[0]."' src='".$image_src[0]."' title='".$image_title."' alt='".$image_description."'

Hi Kriesi and thanks for the answers,

1. What are the benefits of images attached to hidden post, will I lose some functionality that I have at the moment if I change those lines in class-htmlhelper and switch to normal WP behavior?

2. strange ... any chance that has something with PHP version or something similar? Current server : Apache 2.2.21, PHP 5.3.8, MySQL 5.1.56

3. for me, image upload works with the default wordpress uploader over https only when using browser uploader (somehow in a strange way as I don't see any progress - 0%, and after the image is uploaded I'm redirected to Media library). Flash uploader gives me I/O error over https.

Is there a simple way to add image height and width to img code at function-set-avia-frontend.php around line 380 ?

Thanks again!

Hello!

1.) Images are attached to this hidden post, thats correct. Since you seem to prefer the normal behavior you can change that quite easy:

open the folder framework/php/ and search for the file class-htmlhelper. at line 418 a post id is selected. you can change that selection by altering the following lines from

$postId = avia_media::get_custom_post($element['name']);

to

global $post_ID;
$postId = $post_ID;

That will attach the image to the actual post. also if you dont want to change the code you dont have to be afraid that the images are gone if you switch theme. they would still be available.

2.) Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce this. I am able to save images and alt tags no matter which uploader I use and they also appear fine on the front end

3.) Since the "feature media" is nothing more than a slightly modified wordpress uploader that should basically work. Could you give me a description on what exactly doesn't work (and also if it works with the default wordpress uploader?)

Last but not least let me apologize for my lack of availability during the last weeks. I wont go into details here about that since its a personal matter but I will try to resolve the questions that accumulated over the past weeks in the upcoming days.

best regards

Hello again,

I think we really need some answers from Kriesi regarding questions above, it's frustrating and annoying situation. I can't even start with new website without this things fixed, and as far as I know, are part of the same 'Add Featured Media' problem.

1. Images attached to avia_logo and not correct post name in the media library (which is normal wordpress behaviour!) ... what if I change the theme in the future? reattaching hundreds of images to the posts? as images are attached to avia_logo it's hard to find the right image.

2. Image Title and Alt tags are not saved in database when adding featured media. I need to manually add them from media library

3. I can't add featured media over HTTPS, even with chmod 777.

Let me say, that I've looked all over the forum and there is a lot of support questions regarding this problems, some are 2 months old. All I see is: 'your post must have slipped through... ' and as stated above from Chris ' this seems to be a common problem... I'll notify Kriesi about it. '

So basically, what is Kriesi answer for all of this? I'm sorry if this sound rude, but I see new themes bumping every month without fixing this Major issues.

Ok, thanks ... as a note, I made a workaround by adding code below to function-set-avia-frontend.php around line 380.
Code checks if there are whitespaces in image title, if not, it replace image title and alt tag from post title. It's ok solution if you upload images by yourself and watch for image filenames to be without whitespaces.

if ((strpos($image_title, " ") !== false))
 {
 return "<img src='".$image_src[0]."' title='".$image_title."' alt='".$image_description."' />";
 } else {
 $my_image_title = get_the_title();
 $my_image_alt = get_the_title();
 return "<img src='".$image_src[0]."' title='".$my_image_title."' alt='".$my_image_alt."' />";

//return "<img src='".$image_src[0]."' title='".$image_title."' alt='".$image_description."' />";

The problem after applying this code was with Aviacordion slideshow images at front/home page, as they get the last post title. For those images I did set up titles within Medai library manually.

As this may lead to find a bug, I noticed, with above code implemented, image alt always gets value of the first non empty field, so if I do not set alt field and set up caption field in Media library , image alt get caption field, if caption is empty it gets description field value.
Solution above is temporary, I hope you'll fix it asap.

Another addition, in case someone need it, was around 332 line as by default logo image doesn't have title and alt:

$logo_title = get_bloginfo('name');
$logo_alt = get_bloginfo('description');
$logo = "<img src=".$logo." alt='".$logo_title.' - '.$logo_alt."' />";
$logo = "<h1 class='logo'><a title='".$logo_alt.' - '.$logo_title."' href='".home_url('/')."'>".$logo."</a></h1>";

Another issue I have, and is not answered: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/featured-media-image-upload-not-working

Thanks!

Hi,
this seems to be a common problem, I'm uncertain what causes this, I'll notify Kriesi about it.

Tested on clean local install with Corona 1.2, when using 'add featured media', image title, alt, caption and description are not saved in database. After adding fields again, manually in Media library, all fields are saved.

Can someone confirm this ... or can I get some answer from support.

Hello,

This one really bothers me, as when users hover the images in they doesn't get my image title (usually post title)

When creating a post, after uploading image (Add featured media) and setting proper title, alt, description ... tags, the only thing I get is not MY image title, it's just a image title without extension (someimage.jpg and title is someimage) ... in my gallery view page (like portfolio 3 with sidebar)
Also in Media/Library images are 'Attached to' 'avia_logo' , and not the post. I can send you screen shot if needed.

Am I the only one with this problem.
