Hey,
we build up a faq forum at the moment - one of my first posts is this tutorial: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/i-can%E2%80%99t-create-a-custom-menu-the-menu-behaves-weird - maybe you would have saved some time by reading it first :)

Glad that you found the solution though.

OMG I am silly, i messed around with menus some more and found out you have to drag the subpages underneath the parent page and to the right. This was not intuitive at first at all. Problem solved. *sigh*

Okay so I tried playing around and I tried to create a new menu and only select the pages I want. But unforrtunately, I can't get the child pages to show up under the parent page. For example, I should have two subpages showing under the about parent page. How can i display those?

Hi Scott,

Thank you so much for responding, you are interpreting my question correctly. I tried your suggestion, but I can't complete step 3 in your list of instructions. Everything is greyed out for me, maybe because i didnt create any menus? all my pages in the navigation bar load automatically when I create a page. Is this an Avisio thing? Is there a way around this?

-Jeff

Jeff:

If I'm interpreting your question correctly re: removing a page from your top menu

To delete a page from your top menu (navigation bar):

1. Go to the Appearance menu in your WP Dashboard
2. Click Menus
3. Select the menu item you want to remove (click the arrow on the right corner of the menu item to expand it
4. Click the remove link

That will remove the page (or post, or category, or whatever) from appearing on your navigation menu, but the page (or post, etc.) will still be available to view/show on the home page as you desire.

That helped a lot mlgallant, I didn't know the # symbol was a reserved word, I interpreted your initial post incorrectly, my apologies. Thanks so much, you are awesome. Mad eprops to you. Now I just have to figure out how to remove a page from showing up on the top menu

Open the page you want to deactivate the link.
Scroll to bottom. You will see Page Links To
In the field Point to this URL put a #.
Save the page.
Hope this helps.

Hi mlgallant,

thank you for your suggestion, i installed the plugin you suggested and tried it. But I'm not quite sure what you mean by put the # for the URL to link to. The best I can do is simply redirect the parent page back to the home page instead of linking to a separate page. There's no physical way to deactivate a page?

If anyone could answer my first question, that would be sweet too.

Answer to no 2 is to use a plugin called "Page Links To". Go to the page you want to deactivate the link, scroll to the bottom then put in # for the URL to link to.

Hi guys,

I have two questions, if anyone would be so kind to offer some advice, that would be awesome:

1. From the mainpage options, I set a page I created as the mainpage content. Is it possible to remove this page from the dynamic menu and have the content just show on the front page?

2. Is it possible to not have an active link for the top level of a page hierarchy? For example, I have an "about" page that shows up on the front page, and 2 sub pages underneath. Is it possible to make the parent page inactive as a link? I think the page hierarchy and organization is tripping me up.

Here is the site link so it's easier to understand:
http://riordanalumni.com/new_site_2011/

Any suggestions would be super helpful!

-Jeff
