Hi

from the current changelog of WooCommerce I have just learnt

2.0.3 - 11/03/2013:
Fix - Re-applied image setting tooltips

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/woocommerce/changelog/

This should solve my problem, which apparently had nothing to do with the Flashlight update but with WooCommerce.

Regards,

Hi,

What you say makes a lot of sense. It is definitely something that would add value for the end user. But in the meanwhile you can stay on your current version of the Theme if everything is working correctly. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks,

Hey Bruno,

I really can't say what it would take to do that. I'll tag Peter and see if it is possible.

Devin

you must be joking or had a bad day ...

From the user/customer perspective it would be of more interest to know what it would take to add a line of code that would import the file name (during upload) into the current "Caption title" field. I bet the effort would be justifiable.

This would preserve the current way of modifying this data while at the same time saving the user from repetitive work (what software has been known for in the first place). Why should the user manually enter data which is already available?

Regards,

I meant in the original upgrade, not new images.

The difference between 1.8 and 2.0 is that now you can actually modify the galleries. Now, yes, you will need to do more legwork but ultimately its at the cost of a much better and more flexible gallery. Total time investment is perhaps 15-20 seconds per image after loading in a full set of images for a portfolio so we are talking 3 images a minute and 10 minutes for 30 photos all with customized individual names and descriptions if you want more detail+time.

If you don't want to upgrade and use the new system, you can certainly continue using 1.8.

Hi Devin

I created a page (Pages/Add new) and added a couple of images to it (Add image to slideshow).

In the section "Gallery Options":
- From the "Gallery Layout" options I selected "Flexible Grid Gallery".
- Under "Gallery Tooltips/Metadata" I selected "Show tooltips with title & description only".
Then I published it - this is what I was referring to as gallery: http://wp6.fotowalther.ch/metadata/

If in your installation the file name is automatically transferred to the caption field I wonder what the reason may be that this does not happen with mine.

If I upload an important number of images from a shooting to a page I would hate to have to enter manually the file name for every single image to make them identifiable for other people. (I may shoot images of a certain event then publish them and offer people to select and order prints).

My need is just the opposite of what you mention as a new benefit: I do not want to add or change the caption but rather have it added automatically (just as it happened prior to v2.0).

Regards,

Bruno

What gallery do you mean? The caption shows up where the title of the image used to. There is no output now for that title except in the img html.

If you want to have the same effect that was there before the update for the bold "title", then the information needs to go in the Caption title field. I don't see any other way around that.

The terminology may need to be adjusted since the gallery change but the exact same bit of html where the title was previously is now populated by the "Caption Title". So you can change each images caption to suit your needs (as well as add/remove images on any portfolio item).

Regards,

Meanwhile I created a new page and inserted the same pictures.
The caption field was always empty.
No transfer had happened.

I was unable to find out which program file controls the display of the caption - do you know?

when I manually enter some text into the caption field this text is shown in the gallery, but this is not what the setting says it would do, i.e. to show metadata.

If I change the setting from "Show tooltips with title & description only" to "Show Tooltips with title, description and exif", the copyright information is displayed, but the first line where I would expect to see the file name is still empty.

Is there a way to force the file name to be displayed? (kind of the opposite of "display: none !important;" ?)

I tested the quick css with:
.exif_data_inner {
display: show !important;
}
but failed.

The script when upgraded should have transferred the name to the caption field (it did on my live install) but that is where the name of the image should go now (the caption field).

Its just a change in the way the content is spit out which gives more flexibility in that you can easily re-name the title and add description text.

Hi Devin

I'm afraid we are not on the same page.
I'm not referring to a caption title but to the physical file name (example "0802_D2A_4403.jpg").

Please see http://www.wp.fotowalther.ch/keller/ (a Flashlight v1.9 test installation) - as compared to http://wp6.fotowalther.ch/keller/ (v2.1)..

No manual input involved. The file names are displayed according to the general settings.

Regards,

Hi Bruno,

I believe the title was just moved to the new Gallery Options>Show image then put the title in the Caption Title field. It also allows you to easily set the description text in the Caption Text field.

Hi

in the Flashlight version 1.9 the "Flexible Grid Gallery" layout of a Page displayed the images together with the file name at the bottom of the image box, if "Tooltips Options" were set to "Show tooltips with title & description only".

In the current version 2.1 the file name is not displayed. The Gallery Layout options "Flexible Grid Gallery" and "3 Columns Gallery" both look the same, i.e. no image file name is shown.

Is there a way to add the file name again?

Thanks,
