Maybe your hoster blocks the socket function? It's required to receive the oembed protocol (this protocol ask for the embed/flash code based on the url). If WP doesn't receive the protocol results it will just display the link (more about this oembed protocol here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/cannot-get-video-to-embed-from-url ). I could reproduce the problem with a freehoster which also blocks socket connections.

Sorry to be so novice, but would you please walk me through the steps within the theme to make a preview image go on top of my big video feature? Here is what I am doing: Step 1: In the "One page portfolio" options, I add a "single media item" (video), Step 2: then I upload from a url, paste my youtube link then what do I do? Please help and thank you for your patience. - basstrace

Hey,
yes - you can add a video links to your content. This page: http://www.no-margin-for-errors.com/projects/prettyphoto-jquery-lightbox-clone/ gives you code snippets for all supported video services like youtube, etc. As link target use the video url and add the image as "link text".

I see that it is possible to put a preview image on top of videos in my portfolio but I was wondering if it was possible to put a preview image on top of a single media item video. My website is missionquestions.org
Thank you! basstrace
