This template and the portfolio template are required for the framework. You can set the blog and the portfolio pages/options in the theme option panel. Currently there's no way to hide templates in WP that's why you can see them too. My first guess was that it would automatically use post excerpts with 'read more" links but when I select it as the page template for my blog page it doesn't seem to do anything.
