You've just made my day! THANKS SO MUCH!

The problem was indeed (many) div elements within posts that I'd tranferred to Wordpress from Blogger. After deleting them all, we're in tip top shape!

Thank you again!

Do you use html elements like div or paragraphs in posts? The reason I'm asking is because About-TG subpage passes the w3c validator check: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftrailinggrouse.com%2Fabout-tg%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0 whereas you mainpage shows various errors. So I think that the div element is within a post (which is displayed on the mainpage) or the output is caused by a plugin which appears on the mainpage only....

Hi there James,

I redownloaded the theme from themeforest and DIRECTLY uploaded to my server without opening any files at all (to be SURE that they are the untouched originals).

I haven't checked or even opened any of the files, because I assumed that if I downloaded the theme again from themeforest, then all the files would be 'pure'.

I have definitely not made any changes to any file in the theme.

I have also triple-checked that the sidebar widgets are indeed all in the "Displayed Everywhere" option and they are...

Very sorry for this, but I really have no idea what to do.

Hey,

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. Did you make any adjustments to index.php, header.php, footer.php or sidebar.php?

If you've already replaced the index.php file and are still having problems, try replacing the header.php, footer.php and sidebar.php - they are all part of the structure of the homepage and an error somewhere in one of these files could cause the problem.

James

Ok, I redownloaded the theme from themeforest and uploaded it to the server straight away and activated it straight away. I have not opened any of the files (to be certain that I didn't delete something by mistake) and the problem has, unfortunately not resolved.

Any other ideas?

Try to replace index.php with the "original" index.php - other sites show the sidebar fine so the error must be in index.php...

Hey Dude!
Thanks for being so quick!

I have no idea why there is a missing div tag as I have not touched the code..do you know which file I should start with to try and find the missing closing tag?

The footer contains "Pages", "Flick back", "A wee word" and "And finally". The sidebar should contain "Copyright", "Get in touch", "Search", "Drops of ink", and a widget for people to subscribe to the site via an rss feed. When I look at it, the footer stays the same, it's just the sidebar that either appears or doesn't.

Thanks again.

Hey,
your sidebar didn't disappear but can be found on the bottom. The reason is that the html structure is messed up - I checked your site with w3c validator: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftrailinggrouse.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

One fatal error is a missing div closing tag somewhere which very likely cause the sidebar flaw...

Hi there,
I've searched the forums and not found an answer to this (someone else had the same problem, but s/he found it was caused by moving her site from one place to another - something I have not done).

SO, I cannot get the sidebar to show on the front page. It is showing on all blog posts and other pages, just not the main. I have the contents only in the "display everywhere" option on the widgets page in admin. I have tried removing them all and putting them back, putting them in the "sidebar blog" and "sidebar page" boxes separately and also dividing them up between "sidebar blog", "sidebar page" and "sidebar everywhere". In all cases, no sidebar appears on the front page.

The site is: http://www.trailinggrouse.com

Many thanks in advance.
