Actually, you CAN assign different widgets to specific pages. It's in the theme options panel under "sidebar". The problem is that these widgets are secondary and will only sit under the default widget(s) for ALL pages. The only way to have specific widgets for different pages in the order that you want is to set the global default widget for all pages to nothing, or trick the theme by making the global page widget a text widget with nothing in it. The former option would be better, but I'm not sure how to do that. Once the global page widget is set to nothing you can just add in the custom widgets that you like to each of your specific pages in dashboard/appearance/widgets.

However as I said above and in other posts, the same feature for adding widgets to specifc Categories (again in theme options "sidebar") doesn't work. Hence my post about updates.

Hi,
as I stated before, you can't assign different widgets to specific pages, however you can adapt the template files so they'll include different widgets on different kinds of pages.

Assigning specific widgets to categories didn't work for me - they never appeared. Has anyone managed to make this work?

Hi,
it's not possible to assign different widgets to every page without adding a lot of code. You can, however, edit the different post templates to include specific widgets, this way your pages can get a different sidebar from your posts and your homepage for example.
I don't see a way to include fewer/more widgets when your posts turn shorter/longer. I believe there is a plugin to manage your sidebar widgets, I forgot it's name, you can search the wordpress plugin database.

is there also a way to adjust the post page height adjust to the widgets shown? For example: if a post is only very short, then fewer widgets should show than if the post is very long. thanks...
