   I've tried a number of times to get my pictures even using the column shortcode creator

   How do I fix this problem?

   There're some p tags between the columns which cause this issue. You can try to wrap your content into a raw shortcode (i.e. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/raw-html/ ) or write the shortcode tags in one line and do not add a line break between them.
