    Hi. I’d like to have a summary of my posts on the home page with a “read more” button just like you have on the demo version of Habitat but I cannot figure out how to do so. Instead, my home page has all the text for each blog post.

    My blog: http://www.meddevicemarketing.com

    Thanks, in advance!

    Hey,

    have a look at this thread: http://www.kriesi.at/support/topic/read-more-button

    Hi. I did see the thread but didn’t find a solution in it. Essentially, I want it to look like the live demo version of the Habitat theme: 500 words or so of each post (on home page) then a “read more” button at the bottom of each post. I’ve looked through your documentation and have searched the support forum but can’t seem to figure out how to do that.

    Please note: I am not a programmer so the code stuff is new to me.

    Thank you!

    Hey,

    what I wanted to say is that you can use the read more tag in your post/page editor to mark the excerpt. So if you have a text use following tag to seperate excerpt from other content:

    <!--more-->

    i.e. like:

    and I told him that he should get moving or I'd be
    on him like a limpet. He looked at me with shock on
    his face and said

    <!--more-->

    more text content....

    On this site you’ll find a screenshot and a nice tutorial about this topic: http://www.elmalak.info/add-the-more-link/

    Thanks for responding. Can you tell me what you meant by your response? Where is the “read more tag in my post/page editor”? Do I have to put this in every single post or isn’t there something I can do so every post on the home page is just limited to a certain number of words. (and where do I put it?) I’m a complete noob so please excuse the basic question.

    Hey,

    for more information have a look at this page: http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_the_Read_More

    If you use the visual editor in WP you’ll see the more button in your panel. But you can also use <!–more–> in your text as I posted above. It seperates the excerpt content from the rest of the page.

    Hi, that’s still not doing what I want. If you go to the first blog post on this link

    http://themeforest.net/item/habitat-blog-and-portfolio-theme/full_screen_preview/125365

    you’ll see there’s a little box that contains the words “read more” and the blog post is shortened. I’d like to do the same thing on my home page. Isn’t that part of the template?

    Thank you and Happy Holidays.

    Hey Kriesi,

    We are in the process of switching from newscaster to habitat, how do I make the front page show the excerpt for the post rather than adding a more and it showing the first x lines. We custom write our excerpts, so would like to use them instead.

    Also is there anyway of making the slider show multiple stories (as it does in newscaster)?

    Hey,

    open up index.php and replace following code:

    the_content('<span>'.__('Read more','habitat').'</span>');

    with:

    the_excerpt('<span>'.__('Read more','habitat').'</span>');

    Habitats slider works a bit different to Newscasts. Habitat is designed to show the latest post images as fullsize slideshow at the top. If you create a new post the slideshow of an older post will be replaced by the new post content.
